i am trying to plan a trip for 2009, after i finish my gcse's and will be visiting america in june and i wanted your opinions on where i should go.

I want to have as many GOOD rollercoaster rides as possible so where will be the best for an english first timer. Also if there are any other parks around those areas, could you say as well as American maps are very different in scales compared to our (i don't want to travel for more than 90 mins to each one)

Cedar Point

Six Flags Magic Mountain

Six Flags Great Adventure

I voted Cedar Point, mainly because that is the park I most want to go to out of the three and it looks to have so very decent rides. They all look good parks though.

Enjoy your trip where every you decide to go!

^Florida is probably not the best place in summer...

I'd go to SFGADV. It has a great selection of coasters, the park is relatively small, but there is a lot to do, and the staff is great. While it can get crowded, I went Friday night, and the park was DEAD. If you go, I'd get a q-bot, because the lines can get very long, and you won't want to miss a single coaster. There is enough to do here to stay busy for 2 days, and if you want more, Astroland is just a 10 hour drive away. There is enough for any age group, and when you are done with coasters, the water park and safari are both decent.

It all really depends on what you want to do while on your trip. If you want to go to one park for a couple of days, I suggest going to Cedar Point. They offer the most rides out of all of your three choices. You could go to Guega Lake if your staying within the Cleveland vicinity, but after travelling to Cedar Point, you will be done with Guega Lake within a few hours. Personally, I would not recommend Six Flags Great Adventure as a first UK park because the ride selection is good, but I don't think it has the best ride selection out of the three. I would suggest Six Flags Magic Mountain to you if you want do more than one park. The ride selection at Magic Mountain is pretty good, but depending on where you are staying you can drive to Universal Studio, Knott's Berry Farm, and Disneyland Resort without driving too far.

So to sum it I suggest going to Cedar Point if you want to go to one park with great ride selections (Guega Lake included), and I would suggest going to Six Flags Magic Mountain if you want to go to more than one park.

Six Flags Great Adventure has the largest amount of good parks nearby. CP only has Geauga Lake nearby, and SFMM only has Knott's nearby (this is assuming you want to visit major coaster parks). SFGAdv has Astroland about an hour away, SFNE and Lake Compounce maybe 2.5/3 hours away, and not far from it Hershey Park, Dorney, and I think Knoebels. And then there are alot of small parks on the New Jersey seashore like Morey's Piers

If you are a first time traveler from the UK, the answer is so obvious that it isn't even on your list.

Orlando and Tampa

I was going to say that.

Already going there this year, (forgot about that )

If you want a great park experience, but not a whole lot of variety of roller coasters go to Cedar Point. But If you want a lot of variety, go to SFMM. The other advantage of going to SFMM is that you are only 90mins away from Knotts Berry Farm and The Disney Land Resort.

This would be the best reason to pick SFMM.

As far as MM vs. CP go, they tend to be very similar to me so the debate about which is better has always boggled my mind. However, I would give the edge to MM if only that I prefer it's more rustic and hilly setting.

We did the SFGadv, Dorney, Hershey trek last week, and really enjoyed all three parks for the most part. Kelly and I both thought we could of easily spent 3 days or more at Hershey, because of the new Boardwalk water park area, wide coaster collection, and the Chocolate World stuff.

Thanks for the advice, at the moment i've been looking into Six Flags Great Adventure as it is within 2 hours of Hershey and Dorney Park and 1 hour from New York.

Also flights to New York are quite cheap from London at the moment

If you do go to SFGAdv, you should try and get in SFNE. The park is kinda crappy, but there is 99% chance that you will never ride a coaster better then S:ROS. There is a reason it consistantly ranks at the top of the Golden Ticket and Mitch Hawker top 10 steel coaster lists. However, it is further out from where you will be then you said you want (I would estimate it at 2.5 hours from NYC).

El Toro is better than SRoS...

Sorry. I still haven't managed to get on El Toro yet, and I probably won't get to until next season.

Best STEEL coaster then

Cedar Point. It has the best collection of coasters(Raptor, Magnum, MF and TTD and Maverick) and some nice flats especially MaxAir.

It is relatively close to 6 other parks(King's Island, Geauga Lake, Kennywood, Holiday World, Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom and Indiana Beach). All are within a 10 hour drive from Cedar Point only if you want to spend that much time traveling to them.

You might have to drive some very long distances to find some pretty decent coasters in my honest opinion.
