dandaman Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 Well, like the description says... by popular demand, I took as many Maverick shots as I could, while still actually doing stuff in the park. That's all, folks! Golfing may prove a bit more challenging at the moment... That about sums up the apocalyptic storms! We even had to get the manager to get some towels; the bottom ledge of the window was leaking steadily. Guess I have to have a couple Derek-friendly shots. But we smart people already had reservations at Game Day Grille! I didn't get a shot of the horde heading for the main entrance, but I can only compare it to a wider-midway version of the Magic Kingdom, post-Wishes. A lot of people kept screaming "TORNADO!", though the winds did pick up really quickly. At this point, the 40% chance of thunderstorms decided to enter the coaster-riding equation... "Duuuuuuude..." Glad I ran here first thing in the morning! Hairtime! You actually get airtime off of this! I really can't see taking that heartline roll at that speed! (Though this pales in comparison to the first canyon turns.) Now back to your regularly scheduled fanboy pornography content. Gotta have SOME Canadian content, right? Well, don't we look enthusiastic today! *yawn*... (The "signature shot", not the ride.) So they test both trains before opening, then run only one run one side on the same crowded Saturday? Weird. So, just to qualify this as a semi-full CP post, I took ONLY A FEW other pictures. Rest assured there's more down the page! While I didn't notice these on the ride, I did get a bit wet from the random canyon fire hose thing. You might think it's impossible for a coaster train to just "sneak up" on you... but that aptly describes every time the trains launch from the tunnel. Eerily silent. Besides the airtime, the overbanks were my favourite elements. (FYI, if you keep your head back, you'll be fine in terms of a smoother ride.) ...That's both for the ride and the scorching heat that day! Thunder Canyon waits were upwards of an hour, so I just stood on the SRF bridge. Let me tell you, you can really feel the fact that it's 95 degrees! ...You tell me. (On-ride photos don't work well for me.) So, did I enjoy it? Well, first ride, front seat, in under 15 minutes, combined with the actual ride itself... omg omg omg! Magnum running two trains with minimal wait: good! Waiting a half-hour to run to Maverick and having to watch Joe Cool/resort guests go in instead: bad!
Schmoofy Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 I really do love the different colours of Maverick's trains, thanks for the pictures!
ginzo Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 I asked if I could go back up the exit ramp to take some shots, and a (nice, mind you) security guard escorted me up. Hurray for the sensibility here. It really beats the op at Geauga Lake yelling at me for taking pictures in Villain's station.
alpengeist04 Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 You have some very nice pictures there, great job and thanks for TR.
CoasterNut17 Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 Nice TR! I can't wait to ride Maverick in a couple weeks! I love that last shot of TTD! To bad you guys had a bit of rain, though.
ratdogg68 Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 Really great pics of Maverick, so did the storm last very long? Can't wait til July 16 & 17
Carnage Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 Waiting a half-hour to run to Maverick and having to watch Joe Cool/resort guests go in instead: bad! You have a CW Maxx pass no? I was told when I signed in that Maxx passes get you in for early entry.
hemmy Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 I think you still need to be in the Joe Cool Club if you aren't staying at a Cedar Point owned hotel.
Carnage Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 ^ I haven't found an exact answer on that though. The employee signing me in was the one that told me my Maxx pass was good for early entry. But I already had early entry via staying at a resort, so I wasn't able to test it.
dandaman Posted June 3, 2007 Author Posted June 3, 2007 Hurray for the sensibility here. It really beats the op at Geauga Lake yelling at me for taking pictures in Villain's station. I'd never had the idea to do it for other rides before (aside from MF, but that one's kinda easy). It was pretty cool! How many times did you ride Maverick? Just the once. We were going to go again after the rain, but Dragster was almost a nightmare. 5 rollbacks before letting us in line, a half-hour to the station, and an extra 15 minutes because right after we went, it broke down. (I'm cursed like that. ) did u take those pics on wensday? Nope, yesterday. How long was the wait on maverick? 15 minutes right at 10, but as you can see from the queuehouse pic, it was pretty considerable around 3:00. Get there EARLY! so did the storm last very long? It pretty much came and went within the hour we were at Game Day Grille. It was quite entertaining to watch "the trapped" run around outside. You have a CW Maxx pass? no Moved the question mark just a little. To all others, thanks for the comments!
coastercrazed49 Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 Nice Trip report. I went to Canobie Lake Park last night and it poored for like a half hour and it was flooding all over the place, but like for you it only lasted about 45 minutes, but dont even get me started on the lightning.
dandaman Posted June 3, 2007 Author Posted June 3, 2007 Yeah... I almost choked on one of my fries when there was literally no delay between "flash and bang" during dinner. Sounded like it hit as close as Wicked Twister. FYI, now that I think about it, whatever mist/steam tunnel effects weren't working on Maverick.
CP_RULES Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 I guess they were dueling the trains on Maverick like they showed in the animations, did you notice when on the ride? Those were some pretty good pics, were they stacking trains that bad all day? If so, thats a shame. I knew they couldn't run all six trains efficiently.
IwantRevenge Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 OMG SHE HAS FOUR ARMS!!!! you were really analyzing those photos eh?
HogarthOK Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 ^ I haven't found an exact answer on that though. The employee signing me in was the one that told me my Maxx pass was good for early entry. But I already had early entry via staying at a resort, so I wasn't able to test it. We have WoF Maxx Passes, and while the Green tag at the gates was a little confused, Maxx Pass does include the early entry benefit. Blue tags don't even bat an eyelash, though. (We asked if we could upgrade to Joe Cool and the staff in Guest Relations said "Umm... Why would you want to do that??")

Though it doesn't seem like it, they actually did run all six trains efficiently. I stood on the exit pathway going back over the track and talked to my friend in a previous train... for about 30 seconds. The crew was MOTORING that day! And yes, you really could tell the other trains were really close. They weren't all timed perfectly, but the biggest delay I found was about 10 seconds, which isn't much considering loading procedure. Dan "Sorry I didn't see you Jon!" Smith
coastrfreak2000 Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 Can Maxx Passes be scanned at the Magnum entrance gates?
FeelTheFORCE Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 ^ Yes. I have never done it, but when I was there they were asking everyone with a Maxx Pass standing in line to get in, to come to the one booth and sign in.
Goliath513 Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 Good PTR. Do the maxx passes work the same way flash passes do at Six Flags parks?
Wes Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 ^ No. Maxx pass is just Cedar Fair's term for season passes that work at all CF parks. Cedar Point doesn't have a flashpass/virtual queuing system at all.
