coasterdude5 Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 There have been alot of years where alot of great coasters have opened. What is your favorite? Mine would probably be 2005, when alot of unique, different coasters came out like Powderkeg, Revenge of the Mummy, and Sheikra. All three of those coasters I had a high interest for just because they were different and offered something new. Especially Powderkeg, with its reuse of the former coaster that held the location, Buzzsaw Falls. Revenge of the Mummy also was an interesting ride because no one really knew what to expect with it being enclosed. Sheikra pushed the dive machine envelope farther than any of the other two dive machines ever had. Which coaster year was the best for coaster additions?
imbordisux Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Since I've only been a coaster-enthusiast for a few years, I can't accurately catalogue such things as "best year for new additions", but I'll say that last year kicked ass - The Voyage AND El Toro!
Axman Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 1998. OMFGHOSTRIDER! Granted, I rarley ride coasters the year they're built. Invertigo at PGA was big news for me, too. Now, we gawk at it with crumy Vekoma jokes. Also: Great Bear, Riddler's Revenge, and Twisted Twins Good and sought after: B&R:Chiller, Aska, Journey to Atlantis, Mr. Freeze, Mamba, Oblivion, Shivering Timbers, & Volcano. These last few years have been AWSOME too!
jamesdillaman Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 2000! Beyond the obvious (MF and the S:ROS's): Boulder Dash Dania Beach Hurricane Dominator and Steel Venom (Batman and Superman those days...) Goliath at SFMM The Legend Stealth!! Flying coaster debuts! Superman: Krypton Coaster at SFFT, my favorite floorless and of course, in my neck of the woods.... the BOA SQUEEZE!! satisfying coaster nerds fix in the dead of winter for 7 years now in cincinnati. -James Dillaman
spaceace12 Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 2006, rode my first big coaster and rode the voyage.
IceDragon Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Either when Alton Towers opened Oblivion or when Thorpe Park opened Colossus, Detonator, Vortex and Quantum I think it was
jamesdillaman Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 This year. Last year I only rode 3 different coasters like 14 times. This year I am at 29 coasters with allot of rides on a few. And I am not done yet. In the works. Indiana Beach for July 21st, Cedar Point for Sept. 15th and 16th, Six Flags in Chicago and Kings Island Sometime. And Possibly Strickers Grove on public day. That actually wasn't the question posed by this thread... Read the first post. -James Dillaman
ECZenith Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 I agree with 2000 the SROSes were just plain WOW when they first opened. It was overwhelming.
jamesdillaman Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 ^ Riding the Intamin hypers changed my life. -James Dillaman

Chadley Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 So far, hands down for me...this season! 1) Mystery Mine 2) Maverick 3) Renegade ...maybe even Flying Turns by the end of the season!
Scaparri Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Definitely 2000.... Kraken Boss Millennium Force Son of Beast (I actually liked it when it first came out) Steel Venom Villain Dominator and I'm sure there are a few more that I've been on that I'm forgetting.
SFNE Dude Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 ^You forgot the #1 coaster on the planet: S:RoS (SFNE) The year 2000 wins hands down.
pianojohn Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Well, the nostalgia buff in me must say 1978 for the following reasons: Gemini (then the tallest, fastest, etc) Colossus (also the tallest, fastest, etc) Loch Ness Monster (first interlocking looping coaster) Mind Bender (still a great ride!) Shockwave at SFOT (another classic) Montezooma's Revenge, Greezed Lightnin' and Tidal Wave (shuttle loops) Lightning Loops at SFGAdv (interlocking shuttle loops) You have to admit....quite a year! And I rode Gemini its first season when lines averaged an hour of so for this MONSTER coaster! My have times changed.
Olsor Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 ^Agreed. For the pre-B&M era, I'd go with 1978. During the B&M era, it's definitely 2000.
eddie200330 Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 1998 and Magnum at CP. Still by far one of the best rides out there,(especially when it stops in time!!)
FeelTheFORCE Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 ^ Magnum opened in 1989, not 1998. I have to agree with 2000 with MF, SROS, Goliath (SFMM), and what else was mentioned above.
eddie200330 Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Sorry FeelTheForce, must be getting dyslexic in my old age lol, thanx for "fixing" that error! I would also like to add 2004 and Storm Runner to the list.
FeelTheFORCE Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 ^ No biggie, it's just a simple typo, I do it all the time. I have to get back to Hershey one of these years to ride Storm Runner.
kewlcoasterdude Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 I say 1996 when Mantis, Outer Limits and Super Man the Escape at SFMM came out. I believe that was the same year High Roller at the Stratosphere opened. Its the best year hands down. By the way, Mantis is by far the best ride from that year.
Axman Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 I actually wrote 2000 to begin with, because of Stealth and Millennium Force, but then I thought; "No, everyones going to put 2000; I should go with the year my #1 coaster, Ghostrider opened." So I changed it at the last minute. 1927 is my third runner up. Several of these coasters are no longer operating, but were refered to as great rides.
