Most Overrated coaster?

Recommended Posts

In enthusiast circles, at least the ones I seem to run in, far and away the most overrated coaster is Magnum XL-200! I mean, people worship at its altar, and I don't have it in my top 7 favorite coasters at CP! Fun story though... I do remember dreaming about riding it, after seeing its teaser ads leading up to the 1989 season, so I do have that going for me! DId it live up to my dreams? Not sure that it did, but it was still pretty awesome, especially compared to what else was out there in the late 80's, early 90's!

Every coaster at cp when talking to a cp fanboy. Other than that, I think that Lightning rod is overrated, I mean it's still a great coaster, but people obsess about it.

Only like 20 people have actually ridden Lightning Rod lol

Oh, I disagree. I rode it for the first time this past weekend, and I liked it even more than Maverick. #2 in the park, behind Millennium Force. It's an absolutely incredible coaster.

Speaking of overrated coasters since the last time I talked about Titan in this thread I rode it three more times and it just got worse. Why do people like this ride at all? It's big, but it doesn't feel like it. It's fast, but it spends all of its speed trying to knock you out with g-forces. It's sorta smooth, but on my most recent ride I noticed a massive rumble. This was still all last summer and I don't have a SFOT trip planned this summer, but if I did I'd probably opt to avoid it entirely. I don't get intimidated by the height like my first ride. The drop is boring, not steep, and is just straight track on a decline. The tunnel is over too quickly to be bothered with. The turnaround does what it says on the tin, and nothing else. The hill serves no purpose and feels pretty much like straight track. The first helix is headache-inducing. The twister section might have been almost fun if the MCBR didn't kill all the speed, but I'm glad it does because guess what there's another helix, and this one is sure to make your potential headache worse. This is, at max, a once-a-day ride. Now I get that some people have a higher resistance to the g-forces, but even then, what does the ride even do that's noteworthy? It just sorta meanders around, and just when you start doing something interesting it throws a giant helix at you saying "look I can be forceful too." I'll be honest, I prefer mine trains to this. I prefer Texas's local Boomerang to Titan. I'm glad I don't see it ranking high but I still hear people praise it and I really just don't understand at all, especially with NTaG next door.

Well, you are an enthusiast, so I guess you'd fit the demographic that overrates it I was referring to!

But hey, at least you still like MF more! My friends who love Magnum actually call MF force-less! Makes me glad I'm a Mental Health Worker so I can be there to give them an obviously needed hand!

Other than that, Magnum xl-200 is insane with those last airtime hills. Sadly its not the most reridable, I draw my limit at about 5 rides when my thighs can't take it anymore.

This has probably been said for half the posts on this thread, but Millenium Force is THE definition of overrated. #1 ride in the world my A$$, it barely pushes 3rd best ride in the park

While on the topic of Cedar Point coasters, I'd like to put in a vote for Maverick. Those new restraints were uncomfortable for me, and the ride is kinda forceless. Don't kill me, CP fanboys, it's only my opinion.

I wasn't a big fan of either Wodan or Euro-Mir last weekend. One nearly gave me a headache with the constant shaking and the other violently threw me around and made me nauseous, which for a coaster to do that to me is an impressive feat I must say. For all the hype both coasters get I was underwhelmed.

Silver Star was freakin' awesome though and I don't care what anyone says.

FORCELESS MAVERICK

AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH

Edit:

But yea, we rode it 7 times in the back row in the morning, my shoulders hurt because of the drop, you just get slammed into it.

I mean........

Come on dude.

I'm all about differing opinions but if you don't think maverick was intense, I think you only rode it in a YouTube video or in a dream. That thing is like a bucking bronco from start to finish

Not only does it have intense laterals, side to sides, RIDICULOUS ejector airtime, on the drop you get slammed into the restraint and then back down at the bottom, but also that turn after the launch after the water splashes, you pull some SERIOUS downward Gs on that turn,

I feel Nemesis is a very good coaster, but it is shown as the king of coasters. It just is not that for me.

Yea it doesn't even have a "real" drop, its got a fantastic layout and great themeing but honestly I think the ride itself (Excluding themeing) is probably even below average for B&M inverts.

I think we have all just misread this. When the OP said that Maverick is forceless they were saying this because of all the time you spend OUT of your seat. They must be considering airtime "forceless" because you know... there is no "force" there.

That's about all I can come up with, because saying that Maverick is forceless is like saying Top thrill Dragster's launch is slow.

I guess the lift hill is pretty forceless?

The brake run is pretty forceless too

TECHNICALLY you can't call anything forceless, other than PERFECT floater airtime. Because you are always experiencing acceleration due to gravity, at 1 G, but at 0 Gs I guess the forces are in equilibrium, so there technically are 2 forces there.

^ Technically, I was just trying to give some sort of possible reason as to why they would call Maverick forceless. . .

We are all well aware of how force works, and what constitutes something being forceless. But thanks for trying educated us, and clearing up the confusion!

Anyway, back to "overrated coasters. . ."

Meh, maybe I just rode it on a bad day. I really liked that turn after the launch, but other than that, it was just nothing special.

You could have had an experience with Maverick like I had with i305. I got off the coaster and was like "That was it?? That really wasn't anything special, and it really wasn't all that great." Really had no desire to ride it again. Maybe you just caught Maverick on an off day! Let's at least hope that's the case, because it really is an amazing ride!

Yeah, I rode it four times, all in the magic seat. It was brutal to my thighs, but it was amazing. I don't think I could ride it too many times in a row, but I say that of all my favourite coasters. Millennium Force is all about speed, Magnum is all about airtime, and Maverick is all about quick transitions. All three are just the best at what they do, and I love all three of them for it.

What seat did you use?

My friend and I had the last row of the first car (3rd row) as the "airtime" seat, and then the middle row of that car (2nd row) as the "B&M" seat. That seat was pretty smooth, still that pretzel turn is too painful...

Yep, 3rd row of the 1st car. Best seat in the house.
