The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread

Recommended Posts

One of my friends works at my local park Clementon Park & he told me that next they will most likely get an S&S power tower taller than HellCat! Also if they make enough money this year something "big." He won't tell me what the "big" thing is but says it will be awesome if they get it.

Kennywood will be adding a "big new ride" either next year or 2011, as stated in this article from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09134/969833-55.stm?cmpid=news.xml

Mr. Quinn said the new owners have promised a big ride will be added in 2010 or 2011 but have not revealed what it will be.

All of the employees hope it's another roller coaster, he said.

It may seem obvious but I am told this addition will come at the cost of at least one other thing in the park. I am not certain what will be removed or if what must be removed is even a ride, but let the rumors fly. Could this possibly be one of the mystery B&Ms?

^^ Will this be the same magnitude of "big" that SFA promised this year?

There have been several rumors about Heritage Square in Golden CO closing down forever. Today I heard from someone very high up in management that the park is not closing and is safe for quite some time! The alpine slides are the only part that are threatened because the owner of them is retiring. The park is divided into several separate owned parts: alpine slides, amusement park/rides, shops and shows, and waterslides. It should be noted however that the waterslides have been permanently shut down for 7 years now due to their age, low income, and high maintenance costs. There used to be a bungee tower, but that was also closed down around the same time the slides went. The future of the rides section is looking very bright for the next couple of years (especially for coaster enthusiasts).

^^Well my friend who works there told me that it isn't a record breaker or anything (I guess that gave it away that it is a coaster ) but that it will be fun. He said that it is not definite for 2010 but it will hopefully be built if the park has good income this season. The S&S power tower is pretty much definite for next year. Of course it has to be the year I want to move to Orlando (for the summer) that a park right down the street from where I live will build a new coaster & S&S power tower

Although I want a B&M for Kennywood Im pretty sure Parques would probably build a Eurofighter for space and family appeal issues.

And when did the S&S power tower rumor come up? Is it replacing the Pittfall or something? Ive kind of been living in the dark with my Kennywood news lately.

A post at KPConnection from someone who seems to know something at least.

While a Ferris Wheel would be nice thats not really a "big" attraction like being said and planned. As for ride removal....the ride being removed has been mentioned in this tread already. Just be prepared for a very different look to the park next year somethings will never look the same but you may be dancing with joy when its all done.

The rides mostly discussed being removed is either the Log Jammer of the Turnpike

Well they did remove trees near the Log Jammer and Racer for this year. Not saying Kennywierd is wrong when he said they were for a better view of Racer, but there could be more to it.

If a coaster is built for next year, though, shouldn't there be some footers already, or at least some significant clearing?

  • 2 weeks later...

First the wand, now hopefully the hat too!

As part of today's 20th birthday event at the Studios, guests got to hear from senior members of Imagineering, including Bob Weis. (Bob was one of the key imagineers who originally created the studios). Most interestingly, he showed a photo looking along Hollywood Blvd towards the Chinese Theater prior to the hat install. He made comment that this view can't be had now, but MAY be had again in the future (sorry don't have the exact quote, no recording was allowed). This was met with huge applause from the gathered crowd, and lots of laughs from all three of the Imagineers. Bob in particular had the look of knowing something we don't. The hat was brought up a couple of times, and again, all three Imagineers laughed about it, and seemed to fully understand how it's not particularly liked by the fans. It may well be that too much is being read into this, but certainly today you could walk away with the impression that the hat is going to be removed.

I hope this happens and the whole bickering about Mann's Chinese Theater is over with. Because a giant gift shop hat feels out of place in a "movie studio."

(6/1/09) For the past week or so I’ve been trying to track down any solid leads to a very disturbing rumor about a popular ride that could be leaving the Williamsburg park... and so far I’ve only met with silence. I’m not convinced this rumor is true so I’m going to keep digging until I find out more, but on the off chance that it is true, I feel everyone deserves a fair warning so you can start planning a trip to get your possible last ride in.

That said, the nasty rumor buzzing around the park is that this could be the last season for the Big Bad Wolf. While the coaster certainly isn’t as popular as it’s bigger and newer B&M cousins, Big Bad Wolf is still a very popular ride. On top of having a most interesting pedigree as a ride that started out under Schwarzkopf and ended as an Arrow Suspended Big Bad Wolf is generally considered to be the very best Suspended coaster ever created anywhere. For those reasons alone, I find it shocking that Busch Gardens would even consider removing this coaster, on top of the simply fact that Big Bad Wolf is the only true full scale Family Coaster they have in the park with a height limit of only 42 inches, compared with 48” for Nessie and 54” for Apollo, Alpengeist or Griffon. Personally, I know I was able to use Big Bad Wolf as a great transition coaster for my oldest son as he moved up away from the kiddie coasters and was ready to try something bigger but wasn’t 48” yet. Big Bad Wolf was the perfect kid, as a full scale awesome ride and I just can’t believe they would be so dumb as to remove it only to make room for a new access pathway to provide better access into the former Drachen Fire area for the rumored new land. There has got to be a way to keep the Wolf and add the new land, so I can only hope that this rumor is wrong wrong wrong... please let it be wrong. They wouldn’t dare... would they?

I pray they do not remove BBW.

Whoah, there's another new land coming to BGW?

Is Busch even ready for a new land? Especially after adding an new one this year.

Makes me wonder what the new land would be themed to and what rides it would bring.

Looks like KD is definitely getting something in 2010.

Forum members from KDFansite are there today and have noted that there are 3 semi-trucks in the parking lot unloading track and supports today. It has also been reported that a lot of land clearing is going on behind Anaconda.

Just passing along the info.
