Top Thrill Dragster
Cooke has been suspended 4 games. http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=552098 And Volchenkov 3 games for this nasty head shot. IMO far worse than what Cooke did and yet only 3 games. No Crosby, Malkin, Kunitz, Letestu, and Cooke. Time to go into desperation mode. imawesome1124
Honestly I stick up for him a lot, but he does need to know the limit for ridiculous hits. What someone needs to do is beat the $h!t out of him when he throws a dirty hit. When he threw the knee on knee hit against Ovie Erskine should have come over and wailed on him like Dorsett did to Lovejoy last night (that was hilarious). Carnage
^ You can thank the instigator rule for the lack of that.
imawesome1124
^ I still think that if someone throws a cheap shot on your teammate, you should be able to come to their defense.
mightypotato
The perpetual rebuild of the Toronto Maple Leafs continues its arduous march today as the Leafs deal Francois Beauchemin back to Anaheim for Joffrey Lupul, Jake Gardiner and a conditional draft pick (4th/6th round). All I want is to watch playoff hockey again. All I ask is an 8th seed. Is that really so much to ask Brian Burke/Ron Wilson? *sobs quietly in a corner*
Carnage
^ I knew when getting knocked out by Philly a few years ago was our last chance for quite awhile. Didn't really expect to be this long though. I'm starting to forget what playoff hockey feels like.
AllenA07
I think the problem with the Leafs is that some in the team have yet to buy into the idea of a full rebuild. The team seems to be trying to hold on to something with the thought that maybe next year they will be better with their current guys. Just my opinion but if fans are going to have to suffer through a long rebuild just do it. Give up on the idea of winning for a couple (more than a couple) of seasons, dump as much salary as possible and begin stockpiling draft picks. As a Kings fan I feel as though I'm an expert on rebuilding... We've been doing it since 1996!
Carnage
^ It's a tough call on how to properly re-build. You can come up with examples of teams that built championship teams vis sucking and good drafting. But you can also come up with examples of teams that suck, draft high, and yet still never get anywhere.
FeelTheFORCE
^ And then you have the Red Wings who pull world-class players from the basement of the talent pool.

Top Thrill Dragster
I was hoping that the game would get into OT so that both teams would get a point. From there I was hoping the Kings would pull out the win. The Kings needed that extra point far more than the Pens given how insanely tight the west is. Glad this match up only happens once a year and is out of the way.

FeelTheFORCE
Well I guess the Penguins were a little bit tired from last night. They're down 8-2 in the 2nd period.
Top Thrill Dragster
Pens Islander game has got to be one of the wildest games I have ever seen. Wow. Pens started the game with 18 skaters and finished with 7. WOW. Over 300 penalty mins in this game.

I saw it on the sports report and there were six players in the penalty box at once, HOLY CRAP!
phantomfan93
That game got a little outta hand in the end. I'm really glad that Cooke wasn't there.
imawesome1124
After watching it on NHL on the Fly, they said a total of 346 penalty minutes, and Godard gets an automatic 10 game suspension for leaving the bench to join the fight with Johnson and the Islanders guy (can't remember his name). They also said Dan Bylsma gets an automatic $10,000 fine and suspension for letting that happen. And Martin of the Islanders was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY out of line jumping Talbot for the hit he threw the previous game, that should be at least 2 games suspension. And that one Islanders guy that threw the high hit on Talbot(I think) and then started pounding him when he was clearly hurt and dazed should be a couple of games. I have a feeling this is going to break the NHL record for most disciplinary action taken in a single game. Considering the amount of misconducts and suspensions that will probably be dished out will be on par with Caps/Flyers games back in the 80's. The Penguins are probably lucky they didn't have Cooke because that probably would have been an additional 20+ penalty minutes. Things are starting to get out of hand in the league right now. imawesome1124
Wow... We lost again. Why am I not surprised. I miss the days when the Caps were good(last year). If they keep playing the way they are right now they won't make the playoffs, and if they do it will be just barely. The problem is we've focused too much on defense we've forgotten how to score, and you can't win if you're not scoring.

They aren't just making a few tweaks here and there, they're basically starting over and completely changing the entire system...not an easy task. While it might not necessarily be this year, it will eventually help them tremendously in the playoffs.
phantomfan93
I give credit to Oveckin and the Caps. They are trying to change the system because of their playoffs in the past. Ovechkin is also trying to be a better team player.
beatle11
^I also definitely have to give credit to Ovie for trying to play a team game. In most cases that's great but I'm thinking that Boudreau needs to just let him go out and play. Other than Crosby and maybe Stamkos and Malkin, no one else can contend with what Ovie can do. At his current pace, he will just miss out on 30 goals and will barely make a PPG pace. He's capable of double the amount of goals and easily over 100 points. You have one of the best players in the world, let him play and build the team around him to compliment his abilities and make up for his weaknesses. The current team they have are simply not built to play the type of style they are currently playing. I give them full marks for trying, but I don't think it's going to work. Yamez
The issue is compounded by last year. Ovie kept getting called for just playing his game, now to the point where he is afraid to dish the hits and play as recklessly as he used to. He's referenced it a few times in some interviews this season, and its sort of sad that the NHL has knocked him down to that level. He used to be an amazing, dynamic player to watch...but now we only get to see sparks of that. Not to say he still isn't amazing, but I do miss him being the one man army.
