Update

Year 33

Well, as you probably heard... Peregrine has closed and is now being removed.

What a sad sight...

It sure didn't get alot of time to live.

One lonely support...

Where does it go?

Volcanic Derby has been closed while they dismantle the ride.

Sad...

More soon.

Update

Year 33

Aloha!

One plus to having Peregrine gone is that we can get some nice lake view shots.

Oronga might also be on the way out! What's up with Hershey? We've lost Tigre, Peregrine, Sulfur, and now Oronga? I hope it's not true.

Hopefully Tidal Wave is staying where it is! I couldn't imagine the park without it!

That's one big loop...

The Volcanic is still operating at full capacity!

I wonder if they will ever expand...

They've got enough room, I think they could pull it off.

Mt. Hershey River Rapids is still soaking riders!

Get ready to get soaked!

The turnstile & ticket building has undergone a slight facelift.

More soon!

Update

Year 33

Aloha!

New for Year 33 is a new show in the Zhambia Theater.

I'm not sure what it's about, really - I haven't seen it yet.

It's nice to see Bay Lake uncluttered...

Now you can get a good view across it.

It wasn't very crowded today.

Octopus

Overview of Octopus

I wonder if this area will be home to a new ride...

Tidal Wave has been getting a bit rough lately.

The volcano is blocking Oronga!

It's always great to see the faces of people as they're about to get soaked.

More soon!

Update

Year 34

Aloha! This year the park featured a summer concert series! The first to perform was Britney Spears.

Hot as always!

All of her fans showed up!

In her defense, it was raining.

There was plenty of room for everybody to dance around.

Aww...

This park needs a new coaster... soon.

More soon.

Update

Year 35

Aloha! Here we are at our 35th season! The park has set up a small museum in the building that goes under the train station that has some cool artifacts about the park's past 35 years.

Believe it or not, this tree has been here since the park first opened!

Zhambi Sidewinder is standing where Hurtle de Zhambi once stood.

Tropicana Tower is standing about where Turbulence once stood.

Big nose!

Always provides a good shot!

More soon.

Update

Year 36

Welcome back! The park is in its 36th season. Nothing new this year, but supposedly next year will be the park's "comeback" year.

I wonder where next year's "comeback" attraction will be...

It would be great if the ride interacted with Mount Hershey River Rapids.

Twizzler Turnover...

Reflections have made alot of good photo ops for this park!

As have the trees!

What a view...

Tantalus!

Thanks for everything.

Hello there! It's been quite a while, hasn't it? I left you nearly twenty years ago when the park closed. So... what all has happened since then? Well, I enjoyed my retirement and eventually passed away peacefullt with my family surrounding me. So, yes, you are talking to a "ghost". I was an old man, you knew it was coming! I was glad that my younger friend could continue zoo and waterpark updates for you, though.

I miss Hawaiian Escape. I often venture back through my own memories to go down memory lane. I enjoyed being able to bring you construction updates, it was very exciting. The park seemed to grow with me. It opened when I was only twelve, and closed when I was sixty-seven. It was like we grew up together.

When the park closed, I felt like it was a piece of me that had died. There was no real reason for it to close. They were in a bit of a slump, but they came out of the post-Peregrine slump just fine! I believe that original plan to replace the park with a mall (remember that?) never quite died. Obviously, it was modified as there was no mall, but it still closed the park nonetheless. But to be honest, the park was most alive when it first opened. Hershey kept the "small park" vibe for a while, but it died quickly with the addition of Sulfur.

Most of the rides are operating at other parks today. Solar Flare went to Bayside Boardwalk, Tidal Wave is operating at Worlds of Hawaii just down the road, plus many rides are now at Hersheypark, which is still operating.

But I decided to return to Hershey Hawaii for the first time since I left. Though I will be unseen, I will be able to walk what's left of the area. Perhaps I can pick up on some things that were left over. The resort is opening a Christmas exhibit for the month of December so I thought this would be the perfect time to go.

It looks interesting so far, I will keep you up to date with my journey.

I remember the first day I saw Solar Flare. I had just returned from a job transfer that took me to Virginia. I thought to myself, "this is what this park needs." I knew right then that this ride would save this park from what had been a rapid decline, with so many rides closing. I remember the original concept they had tossed around for this ride... It would have been basically two "Solar Flares" except the stations would have been on opposite ends, so they would have launch towards eachother, passing at the top of the first hill. It would have been green/black supports and blue/black supports. It wasn't meant to be, though.

Hawaiian Escape, I believe, wouldn't have recoverd had Solar Flare never come to be. When it was added, there were so few coasters at the park that this was one of the tallest. I think the executives made a very wise decision.

However, as you can see, something went wrong between Solar Flare and Year 55. What was it? Did the park simply lose steam? Had they done all that they could do? 55 years is a good number of years, but what would have happened if they had made it to Year 100? Its sister park did it! Did Hawaii not have a good enough market? Did Worlds of Hawaii steal Hawaiian Escape's thunder?

Now that I'm dead, I can reveal to you what Project Emerald was really going to be: A 4D coaster. It would have been nearly identical to X. Not that great, but I'm sure it would have brought in some crowds.
