jdsmartdude911 Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Today, instead of watching the Super Bowl, I went to Magic Mountain with my friend Billy! It was a good day. Pretty much hit everything that was open. Even got on some stuff thats usually SBNO, including FreeFall, Spin Out, Orient, and even, get this, Sky Tower. *SHOCK* Alright, got there little after opening. We shot straight for X through Revo's exit. I swear, it has to be one of the best shortcuts ever. I find it kinda odd though, because I remember Jon used to say that If an op would ever see you go through, they would turn you around. But thats never happened to me. Heck, a security guy walked right passed us while we were jetting through today. Oh well. So we get in a near empty X, and boy did it fill up quickly! We got up to here, little did we now there was a HUGE crowd behind us, it was almost out to the entrance when we got off. Thank you Revo's exit! Now obligatory gearbox shot. If only I could hop on over there and get an X road wheel for myself. A man can dream... The third train still sitting underneath Viper. Fifteen to thirty minutes later we got off. X seems a little smoother, yet alas, she gave me a headache. Still glad to have her back though. After X Billy and I walked on over to an *open* Goliath. I have reason to believe that while Goliath was down, It had it's chain replaced. For underneath the brake run, there are two giant blue dumpsters. Whats in the dumpsters? An oily black chain. But before we hit Goliath, we followed up on something I mentioned in last month's PTR. Anyone remember the marked trees? Well they're gone. Only the stumps remain. Another angle of the remains. Goliath was empty, we got about 2 or 3 rides on it without leaving the station! Great as usual. Still one of my favourite coasters. Also, a little off subject, But I didn't know how to fit it in above. Under X there was a piece of track, I'd say its Goliath's, but you never know. And there it is. Close up of the lonely track. So back on subject! We left Goliath and hit GoldRusher! Just like Goliath, it was empty and we got a hand full of rides in one sitting. Curvy bit of JetStream from Goldy. Bet you've never seen the top of GoldRusher's lift from this angle on film. This shot was somehow timed almost perfectly. Just look at Riddler's and Batman's lifts! Left GoldRusher and went to Psyclone to pay our final respects. Sadly, you will never see a train pass here again, EVER. I like this shot. Too bad Its being taken out... Insert Psyclone removal caption here. We decided we had enough of Psyclone shots for now and Billy hit Déjà. I still had a bit of a headache, so I sat out and took some pics. Déjà's vert loop. Another angle of it. Anyone ever think Déjà's cobra looks weird? Going up the second tower. Billys on there somewhere. Wow, I just noticed how long this PTR is. If your still reading and looking, I thank ye. But it isn't over yet... So Billy wanted to go check if the Sky Tower was open, so up the hill we went. Going up, there are alot of orange spray painted markings. Most are small little circles. I didn't take any pics of them, but Billy has plenty pics of the dots. We got up to the top, and surprisingly, Sky Tower was open! But then again, you would already know that if you read the opening paragraph.... Shots from the Tower! Viper in the Batwing and X on the lift. Déjà and Psyclone. Ninja's layout. Did you know that the Tower can hold up to 300 peeps? I wonder where this hunk-o-steel is being moved. I caught S:TE during short shot. Later when Bill and I rode it, it short shot again after we got off. One of these days we'll finally ride S:TE when it breaks. A man can dream... The manual was just sitting there. Now you too can learn how to operate Sky Tower's elevator! Going down. Back on land and we noticed something. Whats this? Billy staring at the mysterious message An explanation to Ninja's mysterious downtime. We walked a couple steps over to Orient, got some nice shots from it. Yay we're in! Did you know Orient is Austrian? We couldn't believe how well this timed out! Tatsu's trim. Is this thing ever on? If it is I've never noticed it. Yay Revolution! So after riding it down, we re-rode it back up. Don't ask... Billy is back with his girl, Mega Footer got all pissed. But the heart wants what it wants. Down to Superman we went, and Billy noticed something. What the heck? Whats a Dra? And why is it laughing? Superman was empty, we rode it possibly 5 or 6 times. A line started to form and we couldn't stay in the station for re-rides anymore, So we exited and went all the way back through the queue. I was fine with it, but guess what? It short shot! They did the whole "Superman is experiencing minor technical difficulties, we don't know how long it will take. You can stay if you want or exit through the entrance where you came. You can also exit through the door to the left" One of these days it'll happen to me... We decided to leave the queue after about 5 or 10 minutes of nothing. Didn't hear him cycle for a while afterwards. After the little S:TE incident I noticed my camera was almost out of memory. So I left it alone for the rest of the day, hence why I'm stopping the PTR now. I really thank you reading and looking at this. I would've loved to put some more, but its long enough as it is. 'Till next time, -JD
kraxleRIDAH Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Nice TR. Good to know most of the attractions were open, considering Magic Mountain is still technically in its own "off-season." And that brake set at the base of Tatsu's pretzel is not a trim. It's there in the event that a train valleys in the pretzel loop, that brake can be activated to bring the train to a stop almost immediately, rather than wait for it to rock back and forth over and over and over before stopping.

O yeah, I remember Dan telling me something about that. Thanks for clearing that up.
Mr.Six Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Hey, nice TR! Looks like you guys had fun today. Also its great to see that Ninja actually does have a 'painting' sign out front! Stupid Sky Tower leaving its manual out like that. _six
Satoshi Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 is that Sky Tower really able to load 300 peeps up in a time?! i guess that elevator is kinda bigger than proper size but i don't think 300 peeps can ride on because the wiring cord looks like going to be snapped due to overweight thing.
kraxleRIDAH Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 ^ The 300-capacity applies to the observation deck at the top of the tower, not the elevator ride up and down. I hope I live to see a 300-person capacity elevator.
robbalvey Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Wow, you can still see the old logo from the Four Winds Steak House! Creepy!!!! --Robb
Jayjay719 Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Awesome photo trip report! Looks like you guys had fun. I'm glad to see X is finally reopen. Thanks for the update and pics!
SharkTums Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 JD, don't count on the Superman thing! I can't tell you how much I've wanted to get some sort of cool thing on that ride! Short launch, Smacking through the back, ANYTHING! And in my hudreds of hundreds of rides (ERT's , Film Shoots, Normal rides since I love the ride, etc.) I've never gotten ANYTHING COOL!
ebl Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Nice TR, JD. I was at the park yesterday about 2:30, but I only renewed my Xtreme Play Pass and headed out. Before getting on the freeway, I did contemplate sticking around for awhile knowing that there would be short waits for rides, but decided against it. Eric
thomas2 Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 I really enjoyed this TR! And the photo's are good. Thank you for sharing. For people who can't go to the 'big parks', these TR are gold
AT0527 Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 I really enjoyed this TR too! Next year, im DEFINATELY going to SFMM on Superbowl Sunday.
bulldogmom Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Thanks, good pics. Especially the ones of Deja Vu- I like the combo of the colors against the blue sky.
Jew Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Sitting on S:TE's launch for up to an hour with no shade is not exactly my idea of fun. But to each his own...
The Joker's Revenge Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 I can't tell you how much I've wanted to get some sort of cool thing on that ride! Short launch, Smacking through the back, ANYTHING! And in my hudreds of hundreds of rides (ERT's , Film Shoots, Normal rides since I love the ride, etc.) I've never gotten ANYTHING COOL! I actually got smacked through the back on my first ride in 2001. They also gave us another ride as well
Freefallbestrideever Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Is it just me or is it supposed to say "300 people"
redfoot12 Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 I know the reputation this park has but judging from some of these pictures this park looks excellent. I can't wait to get there some day. I may be jaded by my repeated viewings of Vacation though.
socalMAN123 Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 I've been short shot and smacked through the back. Lucky me. Great PTR! I'm glad to see that X is open again. ---Brent
