DegoRed Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 It's back for another year. Expedition Evergreen...my 2006 Christmas K'nex coaster. Check out the latest updates, and after the ride is completely built I'll have a video for you all to check out here's an overview of the construction site, ok so it's just a tree mostly work on the unfinished station, currently missing the queue and exit a look inside the station zee lift hill for all you POV people here's a look up the county fair style lift hill : ) looking up from the ground next to the station the first turning drop a shot of the 2 completed turns here's where track layout is at currently
Satoshi Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 wow the tree's like a Christmas tree 'n that's almost gonna be kinda decoration stuff! why don't you put some stuffs like star themed one 'round your new knex coaster?!
RRollergod Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 I can not wait to see the finished coaster for this year! I loved last years and still watch the video frequently.
sixflagsguy5 Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 Cool, another custom knex coaster person.
Astat Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 So is this basically going to be the same design as last year? Not that I'm complaining, I love the design of it and I just watched the video from last year yesterday actually. I'm just a tad confused if it's gonna be the same thing or not.
weeow Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 Awesome! Some turns look a bit rough. I love the name and the station. wee "Expedition Evergreen is the Best Name Ever!" ow

Not that I'm complaining, I love the design of it and I just watched the video from last year yesterday actually. I'm just a tad confused if it's gonna be the same thing or not. Same concept, different layout. The tree is also really full this year which makes passing the track through the tree pretty difficult. I'm just kinda playing it by ear and figuring out where to run it And as far as the comment goes about the turns being rough, yeah they aren't gonna be perfect cause building with that kinda support structure doesn't make for perfect turns
robbalvey Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 And as far as the comment goes about the turns being rough, yeah they aren't gonna be perfect cause building with that kinda support structure doesn't make for perfect turns And in reality....no one is going to ride it! I kind of always seen these things as something you build for "fun" not on the mark accuracy. --Robb "And Jon's Knex model can stay in this forum as an exception since it's kind of a XMAS tradition..." kennywood!007 Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 Wow great concept to this coaster! It looks like its gonna turn out great! I can't wait for the finished product.
the sound Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 Looks really cool! Maybe i should do something like that with my K'Nex.
DegoRed Posted December 17, 2006 Author Posted December 17, 2006 New update 12/16 - completed straightaway, outer turn, and 90 degree turnaround inside tree and finally, it's EE...THROUGH THE TREE!!! 90 DEGREES!!!!! overview of the right side 2nd outer turn from the other side where construction left off, the now completed straightaway under the lift an overview of construction thus far
Spookbaby Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 Now Jon, I have a question... If you were to touch one of those Lego people inappropriately and violate them... would you name them "Expedition Evergreen?" OMG I'm sorry but I just could resist!
Gnome Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 Wow, that time of the year already? This project has really made me realize how fast the year has gone by. Anyways, it looks pretty good. WE shall see how it compares to last year.

phazan Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 I kind of always seen these things as something you build for "fun" not on the mark accuracy. Exactly. I actually try to make my coasters look unrealistic, because I like the way it makes my room looks. I like the "cartoonish" look the Knex coasters have. EE looks awesome so far though, it's design is so professional!
DegoRed Posted December 21, 2006 Author Posted December 21, 2006 The coaster is complete, while I'm not as happy with the turnout of this year's model compared to last year, I think it still turned out pretty well. Check out the pics, and I'll have some more up in the next few days as well as a video. enjoy and finally a shot of the train in the loop zeeeee loop the final drop into... second pass THROUGH THE TREE leading into the final drop train about to drop into the tree 2 upper turns inside station walking up to station LEGO person POV from station area right side overview left side overview an overview of the completed coaster
IwantRevenge Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 How did you connect the legos and k'nex? Look amazing BTW very unique.
rollermonkey Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 Wow. I also see where the presents go. (A very important part of the equation.) An unusual tradition to be sure, but it's still cool!
Moose Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 I love the ornaments hanging from the loop supports. Very nice touch This is much cooler than a train around the bottom of a tree.
rbpia Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 Same concept, different layout. The tree is also really full this year which makes passing the track through the tree pretty difficult. Dear DegoRed, Just cut the damn thing down and replace it with a trashcan. Best Wishes, Dick Kinzel Looks great, now I have to go search for the video from last year. rbpia
Nrthwnd Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 Man, and I have enough trouble bringing myself to just putting lights and tinsel on the tree! The setup looks great this year. Can't wait to see the vid of 'the merry ride', heh heh.
