I was searching Google for some concept art for IOA and one again nothing relitive came up,but I did come across an article that closes saying this "And the new park itself? New rides are currently being developed, along with an entire additional Island. No one will definitively say what we can expect, but I hear that jeeps may soon be roaming through Jurassic Park and that Seuss Landing may be making room for the Grinch."

Here is the link to the article http://www.thrillride.com/SpecialFeatures/Islands/islands.html

This article was written when the park first opened,so I was wondering does anyone know what the sixth Island would've been?

Certainly, there were supposed to be other rides, but they were lost or delayed due to budgetary concerns. As for a new island though, I'd not heard of that. (And I probably would have at some point during my four year stint at the park.)

Frankly, the location of a who new island would be quite tricky, space-wise. There is some room for expansion, but it's sort of spread around (in ride-sized chunks, as it were). It would have to be a relatively small island.

Yeah working at the park there I'd say there really is no way of fitting a new island anywhere. The park is pretty much landlocked on two sides by roads, and the other two by USF and Citywalk.

There's actually a few really cool maps around Universal (back of house) that show the whole property and future expansion areas are labeled on them. But they are all only large enough for one or two rides.. which hopefully we'll see put to use SOMETIME!

Maybe the article was talking about the huge plot of land next to Universal and reaching out to I-4 which I heard they sold a few years ago Hope thats not true... it's still sitting there undeveloped with a blank Universal'ish direction sign and road access so maybe it wasnt sold.

I agree, there is no room for a new island at IOA,that's why I wondered what it was going to be or where?!?

As for the land next to I-4,I don't think they own that anymore. From what I hear they only own the medium sized plot of land sitting right next to Royal Pacific.

from looking at the satalite images you can see that there is a large easily excessible spot in Suess Landing, so I think the grinch ride is a possibility. There are 2 spots of land to the right and left of jurassic park. And a decent space of land in the back of Marvel Hero Island, though the park's designers would have to get created in order to tap into that space, but I'm sure if the time comes for that, they won't have a problem doing such.

The Spiderman overflow line is freakin HUGE! I mean, they could easily fit a small, compact coaster right there. As for new island, what would it be? I think all good concepts have been taken.

There have been so many rumors over the past few years.. I wish something would have come from them.

When I was working at Dragons two years ago there were survey balloons all over Jurassic Park. Two years later.. nada.. Sigh..

Aside from the LC/JP and Ripsaw areas.. there is a place sort of behind Cat and One Fish, Two Fish that would be big enough for a Grinch area. I think a whole "Grinches Lair" area maybe with a small spinning coaster and a meet and greet area would be awesome.

Oh well.. Maybe Animal Kingdom's attendance explosion this year and Universal's attendence dropping will force the company to take a "spend money to make money" approach in the next couple years.

I know it will never happen but they should add a Halloween Horror Night Island that would be celebrating Halloween all year long (so when I visit in another time then October I can still enjoy that great event...

I know this answer didn't add any value to the topic

IIRC, at one point in the development, there was talk about having 8 islands, then it was 7, and then the eventual 6. I don't remember what the other islands would have been, but then again, there wasn't a Jurassic Park when they were designing IOA to begin with (1988)!

Next time I go back to CA, I'll have to see if I can find some of the concept drawings in my garage. I know they are there...At least pictures of them (along with my pictures of the Jaws ride model!).

That'd be great if you could share those! If you don't mind me asking where did you get them?

Long story, but the short end is that my Dad was the ExVP of Planning/Development and later the SVP/GM for USH and USF during that time, and he has all of that stuff (and more) laying around in boxes in my garage...Well, also at his house in NM, and my Grandma's house in GA.

One day, they will all make their way on to the internet via me.

I'm actually trying to convince him to sit down with me and let me interview him for another site (Westcoaster...Sorry, I promised them they'd get the exclusive). I'm sure once I get it done, y'all will hear about it...

I thought i read on Screamscape that they had wanted to put in Simpson's island, but the show never let them, or something like that. I think if its going to be anything, it will be a Simpsons Island, or an island off another great (Universal) movie or TV Show.

There was a rumor way back that IOA would open a sci-fi themed island, I'm surprised it never happened, actually. It would be a very good theme to work with, lots of potential for good rides.

^So like Tomorrowland?

Still sad to see whats happened to IOA, the park was amazing when it opened! They've really let the park age.

When it comes to the land issue. Universal is learning why selling off all of the "Excess" land around your parks is a bad thing. As people move closer to the park you begin to have all the "local" issues.

Look at Disneyland, no place to go and angry locals.

NBC better be paying attention in FL or Disney will take over completely again. If Disney builds a park to counter IOA it'll be all over.

First off im gonna say I have no secret relatives that work for universal nor do I know anything about the park but on the unmasking tour I was talking to one of the guides and I asked about IOA and what was originally planned and they mention that suess wasn't on the drawing board at first but it was actually the flintstones. It was suppose to be similar to viva rock vegas but they decided it didnt have the staying power as well as suess. And thinking about the layout of the area and the attractions I can easily see it happening.

SciFi?Flinstones?Simpsons?

All of them seem so un-IOA,Im glad they chose Seuss!

I still think there is no way they will ever expand with an entire new island,Even if they did they should work on fixing up the ones they already have first.
