Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread

p. 275: New resort announced as part of a $500 million development plan!

Wow! Just wow! On a side note, it looks like there are a bunch of holes in that topper track just out of the station. It looks like that is gonna make a for a bumpy ride.

There will be another thin piece of steel laid on top so there won't be any holes to worry about.

Is this an official picture of the track this coaster's getting?

The seams are going to be rough, the bolts are gonna shred the wheels, steel wheels will be uncomfortable, the drop(while isn't completed) is going to be 110 degrees of OMFG, the lift chain might not be strong enough, the wood might splinter and break under all those forces, and the capacity will be too low.

Did I miss anything?

I feel like no one can really appreciate the drop from the photos I posted no matter how impressive the backside looks. It really did make my jaw drop when I rode PK and saw it for the fist time from a good angle. From the top of PK's lift, you can only see the top half, and it looks almost completely vertical as it goes behind the trees. I mean, it's slightly taller and steeper than this thing: http://rcdb.com/3938.htm?p=21328

Some other notes I have from my visit (maybe I'll finally get around to posting my PTR tomorrow):

  • Season pass holders can get in an hour early during a few weeks from May to June. I wish I had remembered this in time rather than sitting around the square all morning.
  • The Flying Wallendas were pretty interesting. The opening acts were a little strange, but entertaining. The Wallenda stunts themselves were pretty impressive.
  • The Luma light show as just plain strange, and not really worth the time unless you're really into that sort of thing.
  • The Saloon show is still the best show in the park during the summer. It might be corny, but it still makes me laugh every time.
  • Definitely a lot of new thematic signage around, and it looks like they're putting more effort into it this time. Some of the new stuff blended right in with the old, which is great in this case.

And now comes the bolt discussion....

No chance. Around here, that would be Verbolten.

Too soon?

I believe that's V-bolten to the true enthusiast.

And I sure do hope the wheels fit between those bolts. That would make for a real uncomfortable ride.

These made my day, but you did forget the painful restraints that will have the power to break legs. Oh, and the trains will have Timberliners, but I've heard they may be delayed. By a few years.

^There actually might be bathrooms included somewhere as well. There's definately a little addition to the side of the station that will probably have a gift shop in it, maybe bathrooms as well. They could use some in this area of the park.

That video shows they were quick to add more track to the drop on Monday. By now it might be fully tracked. I'm wondering if we'll see any photos this weekend of the crazy post-drop curve going up. I think it's going to be one of those beyond-overbanks like NTAG has.

^With how fast the lift and drop have gone up I wouldn't be surprised to see at least most of the first turn completed. It's just crazy to think that this drop is taller AND steeper than T-Express, and the dip before and sharp descent will probably give some insane airtime.
