thomas2 Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Mmmh 3000-3150 euro. Well I now know there won't be any SD2K this year for me But there's always years to come
Shockwave Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 My deposit for Japan has just been sent. Originally I was looking at doing the Midwest, but after some quick organisation and things coming around faster than I thought, I'm gonnna end up doing my own trip there and having a CF-meet instead. So my deposit has been altered thusly. Bring on the East!
dubaidave Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Woot to Japan Woot to my Wife saying I can go Woot Deposit will bw paypaled on monday
RaptorBoyASU Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Looks like it will definitely be Spain for me. Japan is out of my vacation budget and financial budget this time. Hopefully in the future I will be able to do it (maybe after I finally get a decent pay raise, and get that extra week of vacation).
Thrasher Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I was really hoping to make it to the Japan trip, but seeing some of the deposit due dates is a little too early for me, especially as a college student. It looks like im going to have to pass on this group of trips, but maybe next time.
PhillyGirl Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I was planning a trip to Japan in August 07 on my own, but I now that I've seen the TPR flyer I'm seriously considering going with you. I am traveling with a child that will be 10 by Sept 07, I know from reading the flyer you haven't excluded children. However, I wanted to know if believe it would be best not to have a child that young attend this event.
Carnage Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 A 10 year old might have trouble keeping up with such a big trip. I'm in my 20s and the 3 week long coaster trips I've taken(including the TPR UK trip) have been huge tests of endurance. Considering that the Japan trip is supposed to be the most intense trip, you might want to think that through.
SharkTums Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I don't know Paul...it seems a lot of times that kids have more energy than we do! As long as he's not the wandering off type I bet he'd have a great time! (Plus then maybe I can have a McDonalds buddy!) Philly, go ahead and email me and we can chat more.
Carnage Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 ^ lol true I guess. I guess if he does go that would be quite the experience for a 10 year old. When I was 10 I was doing, well nothing.
gisco Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 When the ECC/ACE group went last year, there was a 10 and an 11 year old on the trip. They behaved better then some of the adults on the trip. Both kids were coaster enthusiasts and did just fine. I remember one of them had a coaster count over 300. I looked prettty sad at the time having only 78.
miniviews Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Japan deposit submitted! I love the "adventure" aspect of it considering my favorite cities to explore are NYC, Boston, Washington DC and Manila, Philippines. Anyway, I figure I up my post count greater than zero .
abc2001 Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I really want to go on both the midwest and Japan trips, but I need lots of money for that!!! If I decide to go on both trips or not makes a huge difference, becasue if I went on the Japan trip I'd have to fly LHR-ORD-NRT-LHR (i.e. around the globe), but if I only went on the midwest it'd be just LHR-ORD-LHR. I'm *really* tempted to go on both but I just don't think I can afford two deposits at this stage without huge debt. Finding £4000 ($8000) by february might be difficult. Not impossible, but difficult. Depends if I get a job this year or not. For now though, the deposits are more difficult. I'd be 23 on this trip(s) but because I'd just be finishing Univeristy I don't have a huge amount of money.
BarryH Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 Ok I read the whole thread and I havent seen this question...Can we have sex on the trip? The good news: Yes, you can have sex on the trip. The bad news: It has to be with me.

ORD is still five hours away from the starting/finishing point of the trip.
abc2001 Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 It would depend on the flight cost. JFK or ORD is probably cheaper. I have been to CVG once but only to get a connection to Florida.
ChrisFL Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 So Im adding up the Japan trip here, with Airfare from FL to CA, the from CA to Japan and um...geez...think this trip may be too rich for me
BarryH Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 So which trip are you going on Barry? More than likely, Japan.
deathtiger Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 I'm going to attempt to go..first I have to figure out which parent is going...I won't be 18 until Sept. 5th of that year so I have to bring a guardian...which is going to be a pain in the ass cus none of them like Japan... But yeah otherwise I am going to try to go..
robbalvey Posted September 16, 2006 Author Posted September 16, 2006 So Im adding up the Japan trip here, with Airfare from FL to CA, the from CA to Japan and um...geez...think this trip may be too rich for me I know there are flights that go TPA -> ATL -> NRT. Have you tried looking into that? You shouldn't have to pay more than $900 - $1,100 for that flight. --Robb "Last time we flew to Japan it was about $650." Alvey
BarryH Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 The only problem is that if you start checking on prices of flights now to Tokyo for September 2007, you'll probably see some outrageous prices. Most discounts can be had 3-6 months before the departure date. When I did the TPR UK trip, the closer it got to the time of departure, the cheaper the rates became. I did check on some rates for some random dates for next month. From RSW to Tokyo, the cost was around $900. From TPA to Tokyo was around $800. I was planning on stopping over at LAX to visit SFMM and Disney. So if I fly out of LAX to Tokyo, the cost is around $680. RSW to LAX is around $300.
thecoasterkid Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 ^ I wouldn't be surprised if alot of people from North America were planning on doing that exact same thing. I know atleast that I was planning on going from Toronto to LA, going to Disneyland, Magic Mountain, and Knott's, then carrying on to Tokyo. But unfortunately, the trip is out of my price range for the time being, so I'm just going to stick with the Mid-West trip. Next August can't come soon enough.
pagemaster_b Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 I'm planning on flying out from LAX. My brother and his family live just over the hill from SFMM in Santa Clarita, and I'd promised them I'd visit them when my deployment's over. And then of course, there's Disneyland, SFMM, Knott's . . . And thanks for info about flight prices. It gives me a good idea for what I need to budget for and what makes a good bargain.
roasted_marshmallow Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 11 more days until the deposit deadline! (For Spain and Midwest USA anyways!) I can hardly wait to find out if I made it on the trip or not! I'm so excited about this trip!
dubaidave Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 I Have a real question re Japan. I will most likely have to fly into Osaka and you mentioned we will have a rail pass. Is there anyway To extend the pass an extra day each sie so I can use it to get from Osaka and back? Thanks
