Zand
Besides S:RoS, this list is way off. But, we all know that and that just makes me want to see this year's reults for Mitch's poll that much faster.

robbalvey
Actually one of the VERY few things I agreed with is Universal Orlando finally winning the "Best Halloween Event" award. Â I personally think that we may heave helped in that by creating more awareness of Universal's event over the past 3 or 4 years. Â Before I went, I really had no idea how amazing Halloween Horror Nights is, and seeing how many times our HHN video has been downloaded I'm hoping that's sparked some new interest that eventually translated into them getting the award. methylene
The Golden Ticket "Awards" are nothing but a transparent marketing gimmick for both the magazine, the parks, and the inevitable Travel Channel special. I would say they're inconsequential and harmless but as Robb pointed out, the parks and rides in question milk the award for every dollar possible. Sheeple just eat this stuff up. Even my wife, a borderline coaster addict (we're working on it) was ecstatic at the fact we'll likely be riding 8 of the top ten (according to AT) wooden coasters next year during our various journeys. nemesis-storm
I agree with comments made by Robb & others that this poll is primarily there as a marketing tool. Just as an example on some parks brochures, websites etc it will state "Winner of xx number of golden tickets". In my view it's the same as a park saying they have fastest, tallest, longest, highest of something and we all know very well that's not the case. Â There just there to get people through there gates. Â As we are Theme Park & coaster enthusiasts & single minded individuals we are going to agree & disagree with some of these results. Again covered by Robb already thats why Mitch's poll is one of the best. Â Paul 'I look forward to the TPR awards' Chapman
TheArchfiend
OK, now I've been listening to theme park goers from all over the country this year that have had the joy of riding both El Toro and The Voyage. One thing that I ALWAYS noticed was that those who rode both spoke of how great both rides were and it was literally a coin flip as to which was the better coaster. Â This Golden Ticket poll... New ride of the year: The Voyage 50% and El Toro 8% Â How the F**k is that even possible. I'm not trying to fanboy out for my home park's coaster, and I honestly think Voyage looks like a better coaster, but that poll just gives El Toro no respect at all. Â For shame Golden Ticket. For shame.
Jonathan
I would bet El Toro's late opening hurt it a lot for this poll. Most voters probably just didn't ride it.
TheArchfiend
^ Damn, that blows. Still, late opening or not, 8% of the vote for new ride of the year is a total slap in the face to El Toro. Â Â Â EDIT: OMG!! I just saw that Colossos is number 23 and Balder is 27 on the wodden coaster list! That's just... wow, umm... uhh..... yeah. disneyfan1313
Wow. I would *love* to talk to the folks who voted for this and find out their travel patterns and most importantly how on *earth* could Illuminations not be anywhere on the show list. Fiesta Friggin Texas!??!?! WTF?!?! Heck I would even through "Bill and Ted's Halloween Show" on there. Oh.. and the shows at Tokyo Disney Sea - blows *anything* in the USA away. Â Seriously - the TPR Awards is the Best.Idea.Ever. .. There should be some qualifications for voting though such as "Been to a park outside Ohio"... TheArchfiend
There should be some qualifications for voting though such as "Been to a park outside Ohio"... Â I was going to say that too but then I noticed that Blackpool's, Pleasure Beach finished 2nd for best park of the year. Â That just confuses me that they give respect to a non-domestic park by ranking it #2 in the world but the rides themselves in foreign countries get little props, if any, on the top 50 lists. Blackpool is also the park that most "old school ACErs" have probably been to. Â Seriously the poll doesn't seem like it's created by the current trend of coaster/theme park enthusaists. It really reminds me of the "old days" of ACE. Which IMO, I think the entire community has evolved WAY past that, but it doesn't seem like the poll has followed those trends. Â If anything, I think I would describe the Golden Ticket system as "outdated." Â --Robb
BeemerBoy
I say don't even pay any attention to these awards anymore. Seriously, when was the last time you were planning any park trip and said 'eh, the Golden Tickets didn't look favorably upon ____ park, maybe we should skip it this year'? ECZenith
I'm kind of surprised Tatsu didn't make it anywhere on the top new rides list, and that GeFroce isn't at least in the #2 spot. CommanderLock
I can't justify a couple awards, such as best shows (never been to Fiesta Texas or Universal OR DisneySea), and other particularly dare I say "useless" rewards. "Best Concert Venue"? Where I live in New Jersey, we have the PNC Bank Center and Medowlands for that.  I've been to Cedar Point recently and they had the "Top 10" numbers on the corresponding coasters (i.e, MF had a big "1" next to it) in the brochure. They mentioned the Golden Ticket Awards  After thinking it over, I think many of the steel coaster awards are labeled "Best" just to make people think its the best. They probably secretly mean "most memorable", because ACEr's will probably remember their first rides on the Magnum over a ride on ExGForce. So would be TTD as the first Strata, and MF as the first Giga (it's probably a good ride, too), and Magnum as the first Hyper, and so on.  So they just cover up what ACE thinks is the "best" with a nice big shiny Golden Ticket in a glass case. methylene
I go to Fiesta Texas frequently and I concur. While their shows, unlike other Six Flags parks, are in the "entertaining" category versus the "abysmal" category the others are in, the shows are far from the "jaw-dropping" category offered by Disney. Â edit: was agreeing with Robb's now-deleted post. Â Matt
larrygator
thanks for reposting your comment Robb - I knew I wasn't hallucinating. Â I agree that El Toro and Voyage are both great rides, no argument here. However, if there are that close together and I have to pick only one, the operations would be the deciding factor for me.
