Mdcastle Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 The new slides are the first indication we're even trying to compete. We finally got an OK wave pool two decades after Noah's Ark and Family Land / Mt Olympus had them. Really, if only Noah's Ark had Poseidon's Rage, I could spend two days there. Mt Olympus doesn't even have private changing rooms for the men, and it making their park more and more unfriendly to the people that don't pay for one of their overpriced hotel rooms
C.P.A.Guy Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 The new slides are the first indication we're even trying to compete. We finally got an OK wave pool two decades after Noah's Ark and Family Land / Mt Olympus had them. Really, if only Noah's Ark had Poseidon's Rage, I could spend two days there. Mt Olympus doesn't even have private changing rooms for the men, and it making their park more and more unfriendly to the people that don't pay for one of their overpriced hotel rooms I wish Cedar Fair would sign some kind of management contract with Mt. Olympus. That place has so much potential, but the people running it have no idea what they are doing. If it was in any place but the Dells it would of been closed years ago. It feels like there was no planning at all in the layout and operation of that place. I'm personally not a fan. Spent a day there last year and probably will never go back. I think Valleyfair adding another wave pool is slim to none. Even if they put an new entrance somewhere in the vicinity of where Excalibur's station is now, and they tear down the old waterslide complex and changing area, there isn't going to be a ton of new room for new water park attractions. My concern is I believe a new revamped water park is going to be a huge attendance draw and slides are not really capacity movers. I have not been to Valleyfair yet this year, but I went on Worlds of Fun's similar new slide complex last year and the lines were 45 minutes - 1 hour long per slide on a slower weekday (Patriot and Mamba were walk ons that same day). Road the slide once, said fug this, went back to drinking beer at the swim up bar. So what I guess I'm trying to get at...Valleyfair is going to need a swim up bar more than anything in my opinion. Yes, even a coaster.
ACES Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 How about adding some of these water rides: Deep Water Dive, Plummete Summit family raft ride, giant tornado like at Kentucky Kingdom has for there water park.
valleyfairfanatic Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Anyone notice that raging rapids has been closed since August of last year? If they decide to take that out they could easily fit a body slide package back in there that would hug the terrain.
ariznglori Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Oh I hope not, rapids are one of those rides that are needed for a park to feel complete. I think it would be more popular if it wasn't such a long walk to the back of the park. Don't know where else one could go, though.
Mdcastle Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Are we talking Thunder Rapids or Raging Rapids? I've seen both in operation this year.
jmillzy Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Raging Rapids has been in operation this year. It was closed today.
VF15 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I'd personally like to see them extend the lazy river if it's possible because it is rather short compared to most others. The lazy river is landlocked right now, but once Excalibur goes, that could give them some more room to extend it.
jmillzy Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Of all the Soak City attractions, the one I could see being removed is the Old Splash Station. The problem is that it takes up such a small area, that unless something drastic happened, it's staying right there. Also, CF has been putting in "Cedar Creek Flyer" rides at most of its parks within the last few years, with the one at kings Island being in Planet Snoopy, (although the Kings Island at Planet Snoopy has a Pipe Scream (Northern Lights), a flume ride, and a children's invert coaster). Do you guys see VF getting one of these? If they did, I could see it in Tilter's former location on the Wild Thing grass. Of all the rides at VF to be closed due to technical issues, RipTide is closed the most. Does this mean anything for the future?
ariznglori Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Larson flyers have been a hit everywhere they've been installed based on the feedback. I want to see them come to VF too.
ACES Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I don't think Rip Tide is closed for issues I've ridden it a few times and when it's working seems to be running fine and has the same ride operators all the time I'm kind of wondering its closed short staff on ride operators. Raging Rapids and Thunder Canyon have been open almost every day since I've been to the park. With the rumor of Excalibur leaving I'm still thinking its kind of a mistake Excalibur for a parking lot. Valleyfair should re think this. Do the coaster first then the water park expansion or include it with the inferstructure plan. They should consider that space for more room for a water park expansion but I guess Valleyfair sees a growth in soak city knows what they are doing. When I say hello to Frazier when I'm at the park I've mention to him something about adding a new full sized B&M inverted coaster and I think he knows that's what every one wants the park to have. 2016: (40th Anniversary) New Larson Fylers and a new giant thrill ride. Maybe a Dark Ride by amphitheater along with refurbishing the carrousel, monster and enterprise. 2017 New B&M inverted coaster. More water park expansion phase II. 2018 Plans get approved for the wetland permits and construction to start for the water park expansion phase III, new wider service road access around the edge of the park new proposed employee parking lot. 2019 Construction is finished grand opening of the back of the park and water park expansion.
GCI Wooden Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 ^^I've been on the flyers at Indiana Beach (I'm not sure who made them) but they are really fun rides. ^A coaster AND a waterpark expansion in one year seems to be a bit much, considering that the invert may be the largest investment made in park history.
Snowyowl1028 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Lazy river does not need to expand. The park has lots of other things to do, and since it is not an issue I don't think they'd bother with it even though it would be nice. I also don't think it is a priority to them because when they have short staff, it is one of the first things to close which shows it is not a big necessity at the park. As for the flyers, I feel it gets discussed on this thread way more than it should. It is a kiddy ride. If VF feels like they need it they can just install whenever they want. I can't imagine it being too expensive for the park, and while we are land locked (for now) there are many spots in the park that could be home to a small flat. Another thing I would like to say is that I don't think VF will get a dark ride for at least five years. Water park upgrades, park expansions, and a new coaster i'm pretty sure are further up in their priority list. That said, a dark ride could also go in the dinos spot once they leave. I do think that spot is far better for a coaster, i'm just pointing out a possibility. To ACES: I'm pretty sure they refurbished the carousel this past off season. I do agree with you that Enterprise NEEDS a paint-job, red would be good.
Mdcastle Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Suggestions where to put a major new coaster without razing Excalibur and building a new parking lot? The DInos aren't going anywhere for a while. They aren't going to take out any parking unless they can replace it. Agree about Lazy River. Yes, it would be nice if it were longer, but we need other things more, and I'd rather get those than have them devote more resources to redoing lazy river at this point. Lazy River and the Wave pool are the biggest capacity sinks, but also the biggest staffing needs and a longer lazy river would need more. Tornado: Low Capacity, Low staff, high space can't comment on the thrill because I can't ride them since I'm always alone. Flowrider: Very Low Capacity, low staffing, low space, extreme thrill. Watercoaster: Low Capacity, low staff, high space, high thrill Matt Racers: Medium Capacity, low staff, medium space, medium thrill. Family play area: High Capacity, medium staff, low space, thrill not the point. If nothing else, please just dump some cement in the old Kiddie play area and put down more recliners. This year, please.
CaptainUnknown Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Walking around the park, I've seen markings around the Gazebo stage. Maybe the Galaxy Theater could very well be the location for our eventual dark ride with some remodeling of the Gazebo stage. Another strange, stupid idea I came up with: Chateau du Damne is usually in the Hi-Test arcade correct? With that construction behind Mad Mouse being CDD's new location, could the HTA be the dark ride spot? On the subject of Dinos Alive, the chain should replace them with Dino themed coasters/attractions to keep the theme/stores.
APunx176 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 John Peck don't forget you can also visit Nickelodeon Universe is a nice theme park I tried the new zip line is fun and the Mall of America it self do some shopping give you another reason might want to try the water park of america next to MOA if you like water parks. I don't really think Nickelodeon universe is great. It is cool being inside and super themed and all, but none of the rides are really that intense.
APunx176 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Yea, I agree there not competing. There both due for new attractions. There the same parent company. I just found his bashing another park and ranting that they should sell it because of there rumored coaster to be funny. How often does the VF parking lot completely fill? I apologize for being so far behind all of the comments but when I was there, about 3/4 of the parking lot was full at one point
ACES Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I didn't know that the carrousel got some refurbishing this off season. I've also noticed yellow markings by the Gazebo Stage to real small ones.
VF15 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I agree that the park needs many other things before an extended lazy river, it's just something I'd like to see eventually. Walking around the park, I've seen markings around the Gazebo stage. Neither the Galaxy Theater nor the arcade building seem like they would be large enough to fit in a dark ride, that is unless it's an extremely small and short one. I'm still convinced that the dark ride will be located in the amphitheater's spot.
ACES Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 My prediction for the dark ride is also the amphitheater location they also could consider moving the enterprise and use the land were the chaos use to sit. You can flatten out that whole space. Something is going to go in the amphitheater spot some sort of ride. I'm also wondering are they going to have to re design the train track layout then or have it go around the dark ride? The CEO said all cedar fair parks will be getting a dark ride. I'm not sure if the inverted will be the largest invesment in the parks history. Wild Thing would be number one I rember that year real well they bairly got the coaster open on time opening day in 1996 had crews working 24 hours round the clock to get it open. My guess would be developing the back of the park with the removal of Excalibur adding the new access road and new soak city parking lot new proposed employee lot along with the very large soak city water expansion and removing the trees trying to clear out that whole back of the park would be a large invesment. If this all happens I'm kind of wondering if they would bring in mortenson construction company ones who are building the Vikings stadium to help out.

VFVSGirl16 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 This is probably a really stupid idea, but what if this new Chateau building isn't actually for Chateau and it's for a dark ride or some other non Haunt attraction instead? Just a stupid idea what came in to my mind early this morning... It's probably wrong. But what's the point of a new Chateau? Is there a reason Hi-Test won't be used anymore? Or could Hi-Test be leaving soon?
ACES Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I just arrived at the park going to walk around till one or so see if I noticed anything.

RCjunkie Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I'd personally like to see them extend the lazy river if it's possible because it is rather short compared to most others. The lazy river is landlocked right now, but once Excalibur goes, that could give them some more room to extend it. Me too. It is shorter than most but just as popular as all other lazy rivers. If they get the new parking lot in back and build the water park up from where it is now to reach the new lot I would even like to see an entrance bridge to the gate that could go over an extended lazy river. Basically what they did with Fury 325 at CW but with a lazy river ride and of course on a much smaller scale but same idea.
