ebl
"Wasn't 1989 the last family coaster installation?" (Top Thrill Dragster) SFMM added Tidal Wave in 1989. I'd say the last "family" coaster would be Canyon Blaster in 1999. It's more of a kiddie coaster, though. I don't recall what kind of height restrictions there are, but I'm 5'-8" and can ride it. cooksta77
I just saw on SFMM's site that the perks for the Xtreme play pass are the same except now they added free Fright fest maze admission so they are adding perks to the pass. AllenA07
I'm not a huge fan of spinners (myself and spinning don't have a good relationship) however if this is a THBS I think it is a good move for the park. It's a solid family coaster and should be popular.
themeparkman25
Does anyone else have a problem with the Gerstlauer restraints gradually getting tighter and tighter through the duration of the ride? That is my only concern with this ride, as I generally love the spinner. Great choice SFMM, but I would still love to see a ZacSpin!
Swiminn6
I don't know what it is but I really don't mind the spinning but some people do, I really wouldn't mind if it was a spinner coaster.
atem122
Here's my video from last Sunday, the shots are kiiinda shaky, but whatever. I can't wait till next year to film Tony Hawk's Big Spin (P.S: Shameless self promotion much?)
cooksta77
Well I just thought about this if it is a THBS wil we have the THBS Water challenge at WCB in 2011? Again if it is a THBS I hope it's a custom layout that will use the terrain. ebl
"I'm not a huge fan of spinners" (AllenA07) To be honest, me neither. Of the few spinning coasters I've ridden, the only one that I really enjoyed was Sierra Sidewinder at Knott's. It would be funny, though, if SFMM ended up getting an S&S Screamin' Squirrel... WFChris
While I do plan on jumping on the THBS bandwagon, does anybody else think they threw the word 'spin' in there referring to X2? That could leave room for it not being a THBS...Just sayin... Sounds kinda lame for socal if this is the case next year. Freefall returns at kbf and SSW is duplicated? Boooring....would kinda hope that its just...something else. Nonetheless, a new coaster is always a good addition!!!! Chris.

It's just...really, there aren't too many family coaster options for SFMM to choose from, and then you have all the other THBS's going in at other SF parks, plus the park's new BMX show...it just makes it pretty obvious what they're getting. I'm not too excited about it (I'm not a fan of spinning either, in fact I can barely handle it) but it's the best choice for the park IMO. It's definitely a lot better than Wiggles World, which I really think would be a waste with Thomas Town. I disagree with next year being bad for SoCal...Demon Drop is a pretty fun ride, new credit at SFMM, and World of Color at DCA () but that's for another thread. the ghost
^^ Normally I would completely agree(about clones), but sites like screamscape(not 100% reliable, of course) have mentioned a new unique coaster in 2011. The rumor so far is that it is going to use the terrain of the mountain, and if that is true I would not be surprised if it was either an Intamin of some kind or something along the lines of a dive machine or eurofighter. If the park is able to accomplish that then they will not only be tied with cedar point, but may also be able to build a better coaster, resulting in essentially winning the CP coaster count feud. This will be an interesting few years at SFMM if the rumor is true.
robbalvey
I'm trying to picture exactly where this ride will be. There is a bit of land between Terminator and the go-carts, and a Tony Hawk's Big Spin could fit... If I had to guess, I'd put money on that building between the new Johnny Rocket's Shakes & Fries and Deja Vu finally coming down. That's the old theater building turned employee break area that hasn't been occupied in YEARS. I know from talking to Neal and Jay when they were building Terminator they told me that "other buildings in the area" were earmarked for future demolition. Take that building out and all of a sudden you have quite a good amount of room back there. --Robb "That's my guess..." Alvey
robbalvey
Here's my video from last Sunday, the shots are kiiinda shaky, but whatever. I know you were just passing off your "shaky camera shots" as just 'whatever' but I have to be honest, It was the constant shaking that made the video unwatchable for me. I really would work on holding the camera a bit steadier or using something to hold the camera still. You can get one of those mini-flex tripods now for about $20 and they fit in your pocket. Sorry to criticize, but if you're going to put your videos out there for everyone to see, expect comments and feedback. And by listening to what people have to say, your videos can only get better. --Robb
jps294
Six Flags Magic Mountain will add its 17th roller coaster in 2010, bringing the Valencia amusement park into a tie for the most coasters in the world, officials said.Scheduled to open in early summer 2010, the family coaster will be located in the northwest corner of the park between the looping Déjà Vu coaster and the Johnny Rockets Shakes and Fries food stand. The steel coaster moves Magic Mountain into a statistical tie with Ohio’s Cedar Point for the coveted title of “roller coaster capital of the world,” according to Roller Coaster Database. Magic Mountain expects to unveil the name, theme and logo for the new ride by the end of November. In 2009, Magic Mountain installed the $11-million Terminator wooden coaster (shown above), its first new coaster since 2006. The LA Times Report! Alvey It wouldn't make sense to take down Deja Vu for this new coaster...all these advertisements on the site are saying "SFMM to add 17th coaster" and "bringing the total number of coasters to 17". If they remove Deja Vu, they go right back down to 16 coasters and there goes their advertising.
Crazy4Coasters!
^ You misread what Robb wrote. He never mentions bringing down Deja Vu...
Goliath513
Robb means the building, located between Deja Vu and the new Johnny Rockets, coming down. Not the ride. Red is the old building he is talking about. Clear out a few of the trees behind it and you have lots of room for the coaster.

The Disneylander
Hmmm. I'm beginning to think more and more that this could be a custom, especially after looking at the Johnny Rockets site. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Discovery Kingdom's THBS would be a tight fit in there, not to mention the original-sized versions.
ebl
Yeah, that location does make a lot of sense. Funny how many times I've gone past there and never noticed the building. And the fact that the Times mentions it makes it close to a definite. But no matter what, it's still in the southwest corner of the park! DBJ
The pic really helps with that location. Looks like that photo is pre-Terminator is it not? Thought I can see Psyclone's ghostly footprint in that pic. The location certainly is unexpected, but really a great choice. Doesn't impact any rides, wouldn't prevent new construction later down the road for HH or the park. Also, will keep the crowds splitting between the corners of the park, which is also good. Really seems like there is a master plan at work here, nice to see.
ebl
^ Yeah, that is Psyclone's skeleton. But aside from Terminator being built there, that area is still the same. Also, I think Deja Vu got a new paint job since then. It looks pretty faded in that picture. Eric
