The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

I would think a Pandemonium clone would be a good, non inversion coaster for the park. When SFMM announces new rides, I wouldn't be surprised if a flat ride package (with a s&s screamin swing) and a family coaster is included. But I could also see them getting just a coaster, being SFMM.

Pandemonium's capacity is horrid. I remember the one at SFDK consistently having long lines since it had such low capacity, so I think this is something SFMM should not receive. I do agree that another family coaster with the intensity of Ninja would be a nice addition to the park. Ninja itself is still a popular ride even though it is one of the lesser intense of the SFMM coasters.

To hell with all this spinning mouse pandemonium nonsense. The chain already has a metric butt-ton of those things. Rubbish.

I was at Kentucky Kingdom a few weeks back and got the chance to ride Lightning Run. POV does this ride severe injustice. If any ride deserves batman-esque cloning, it's that one. Bar-none, no questions asked. I'm putting together a multi-park TR that I'll post later, but the point is out of 13 parks I visited this summer, that ride was the most flawlessly designed, perfectly executed modern steel coaster I rode. With the exception of maybe one other...

That said, I've been a local long enough to know that there is no shot in HELL of it happening. Knott's, are you listening?

I agree they should have a mid size attraction. I have been a fan of the Sierra Sidewinder at Knots. They have one that I know of in their chain (Ragin Cajun) where its a spin you around while your going on a track. I think it would fit perfectly in the Deja Vu Spot. (Which isn't very big for a typical coasters footprint.)

Maybe they should break a record like worlds largest farris wheel.

In all honesty, I think they should've added a coaster that is a step up from kids coasters but not too big. My sister likes mild thrills, but kiddie coasters are boring and dumb to her. I think they had enough kiddie credits already. It seems the only market of coasters that they have is kid or thrill. Not really any in between, with the exception of gold rusher. But this is Six Flags we're talking about, so I wasn't expecting them to add a coaster in the market that they really needed it in.

I count Ninja as one. This park has too many coasters. They need a Frisbee ride, and a bunch of flats. Take out flats, but Six Flags loves coasters. I hate to be derailing, but I really like the management Cedar Fair is under. Six Flags, not so much.

^^absolutely^^

There is a saying that the safest time to fly is right after a plane crash!

Well apparently unless you're flying with Malaysian Airlines...that company seems to have the worst luck. They just lost another plane today, this one apparently shot down by a rocket launcher over the Ukraine.

I just saw that as well. Very sad indeed. To think it could be a rocket launcher just makes it that much more sad.

You don't hit a passenger plane at an altitude of 10-11 km with a rocket-launcher. Tragic event non the less...

Back on topic: Does the opening of Green Lantern mean that they know for sure what happened in Spain?

You can hit a plane with a military rocket that isn't "carryable". The Buk launcher that Ukraine thinks that separatists used resembles a mini-tank and the rockets can fly up to 46,000 feet (Wikipedia), while MH17 was at about 32,000 feet.

I hear Green Lantern is back open! Only a week and half latter.

Now I can't wait for Ninja! YI-YAH

New article

Today Helsingin Sanomat (biggest newspaper in Finland) stated, that Terra Mitica had made changes to the restraint system without permission from Intamin. Kirnu will receive new seats which will be mounted this weekend and Kirnu will resume operating next week.

...Seriously WTH? What kind of a park allows or actually does modifications to ANY ride without permission from manufacturer? But I have to say I am glad the reason was found and that it wasn't any of the operators fault.

Ouch, yeah, why would a park go and do that? Well that would certainly tell other parks with a ZacSpin that it would be safe to reopen their rides. Good news I guess.

Hi everyone. I'm going to be in southern California in early October. What are the crowds usually like on a weekday during this time? I plan on visiting Magic Mountain in addition to Disneyland and Knotts, and figured this would be a good place to ask when would be the best day to visit. Appreciate any help.

Fright Fest starts on 9/27 so any day after that (Except for Monday 10/13 which isnt a Fright Fest day) will be busy. Generally speaking, the earlier in the month the better. The closer to Halloween, the busier it gets. As far as which days are busier, it is Saturday > Sunday > Friday.

How would it generally be during the day on say either a Tuesday or Wednesday?

The park is only open Friday-Sunday in October except for Monday the 13th.

If you get a Flash Pass, be aware that the Fright Fest mazes are added to the Flash Pass during event days, and due to a supposed limitation with the device, some coasters will not be on the Flash Pass on those days in order to make room for the mazes. I found that out the hard way a couple years ago. Also, Colossus backwards has always been a staple of Fright Fest but will be closed.

Oh wow, I didn't know it only operated weekends during the month, so thanks for that. I might not even be able to visit now.
