Windows Vista

Recommended Posts

Sorry to ruin the Mac-PC war on OS's and GUI's. Xerox was the inventor of the first true GUI, Xerox was like a rich man always leaving his windows and doors unlocked, just letting apple and microsoft steal from them and encouraging those chances.

Umm .. Xerox was doing research .. they had no intention of making a commercial product out of it. No-one stole anything from them.

The Star was a an insanely expensive piece of highly specialized hardware. What Apple did that was so amazing wasn't so much the GUI, but rather putting it all together in a small, usable, affordable package.

I have my reservations about vista. I'm not in that much of a hurry to install it since I'm a mac user at home and there are no plans to convert to vista at work. I have one pc laptop that I could test vista out on (we have several vista licenses at work that won't be used), but I'm debating doing a dual install when I buy my Macbook pro later this summer. Since microsoft cut out so many features just to get the product out of the door, i don't see any advantages to upgrading besides the interface, revamped security, and some of the .NET features integrated.

Eventually I'll install it once i'm sure the programs i do use on XP work well in vista.

I've been using Vista for over a month now, and quite honestly, I love it. After a month of using XP, I hated it to the core! But I've had no real issues with Vista once I got everything set up the first time. I'm not the most knowledgeable about the technical stuff, but for what I use and how I use it, I think it's great. It's very pretty, and does some pretty cool stuff when you have a powerful graphics card. My favorite feature is the "picture in picture" windows when you mouse-over the task bar. Funny that so many people in this thread are so adamant about not wanting to use Vista, when it seems like those of us who *have* used it really enjoy it!

I actually played around with it on a work computer the system admin put together. He was showing me a few things and then I went and grabbed my powerbook and fired it up... I told him... "looks familiar huh? And the hardware looks pretty too!" He wasn't pleased. If you're not used to looking at a 3D interface, you'll always be wowed.

I'll just wait for Leopard and decide how I want to run my windows apps.

My laptop had a hard drive crash, and I figured that I'd try installing Vista on the new drive (since I got a copy for free through the university). So far it seems to be working okay. The Account Control "feature" is annoying, but at least it can be turned off. Most of my programs seem to work, but some have a few hiccups (such as freezing during installation).

I also finally tried out Internet Explorer 7. I'm keeping Firefox

Worth it to buy an upgrade? Not really. I will probably set up a multi-boot with Vista and some variant of Linux

Well, I got a new computer for my birthday on Wednesday, with Vista on it. It's a high-end machine, and handles Vista beautifully. I love it personally. I have it hooked up to the 26" Hi-Def via HDMI, cause I work on it 16 hours a day, and I'm into the "pretty" functions, and I love Areo! Not to mention, the tivo-like functions on it rock, I love pausing TV

The only thing negative I can find about it is that some old software doesn't work on it, but that's ok, the office will pay for all new stuff for me.

I got a great deal on a laptop recently that has Vista, and I was a little worried at first because several things had to be upgraded in order to make it work. The biggest thing was the router, since my old router apparently had gone out of production (It's only a year old), and they didn't have updated drivers for it. I had to buy a whole new one in order for it to work with Vista. Some other software had to be updated or replaced, but now it's running very smooth I'm starting to like it more.

One thing I really like is the video capture tool that comes with Vista Media edition. It's captures DV tapes (and I'm sure other sources) with excellent quality, I can't wait to start making some videos this year.

Windows Vista- NEW! Are you ready to experience the most mediocre PC experience yet, unless you want to spend 500-5000 dollars to upgrade your PC? Then buy now! All the features of OSX [in different spots..] but 5-10 years late!

Mac OSX Leopard- New! Brand new features and a fantastic computer experience- and you don't have to spend 5000 dollars upgrading your Mac.

Yay for me getting a new iMac soon. iWant! iWant!

^^Right now, XP is still more reliable as it has been tested and fixed countless times. Vista is still new. Given time, it will be the software it ought to be. That being said, it runs great on our new Gateway.
