  1. Yes, Wicked has and does Roll Back during normal operation. There were a couple videos of roll backs several years ago on YouTube. The LSMs work as Leofet described, so the train simply stops in the Horizontal Launch. Once the Train is clear of the Horizontal Launch LSMs, the Fault can be reset and the Train Relaunched. No Tilt, unless you consider the side by side elevator platforms as tilting.
  2. You are correct Chris, Saltair's Giant Racer (The First One) opened 5 years later in 1916. While Salt Lake City may not be considered the West Coast Today, Saltair was considered "The Coney Island of the West Coast" a very long time ago. What is that crazy airplane contraption?
  3. Fire Dragon lives up to the Hype during the Summer or in the rain, Wild Mouse is also the only one with a Tunnel, and Roller Coaster runs like a bat out of hell in the rain. Samurai is a Shadow of what she was like when she first opened. There's just no way to describe the chaos of those first ride cycles with the Mondial guys operating it in Manual. Cycle 6 is still the best though. Hopefully you can visit again sometime during the Summer when the park doesn't look so dreary. Also, Pioneer Village is a Museum, so it's not just theming. The Coin Museum, Armory, Music Hall, and Carriage Hall feature spectacular collections. There are also only Three Nickelodeons left in the world, and Lagoon has the only one on Public Display.
  4. The First Racer on the West Coast was the Giant Racer at Saltair in Salt Lake City.
  5. Wicked at Lagoon has a Single Rider Line.
  6. ^ Looks Good! Glad they went with a Mondial Roll Over!
  7. ^ Your Worst Fear, Eh? Dying of Anticipation?
  8. Hmmm....Lagoon's Huss Enterprise, Centennial Screamer, is Still "Under 46" May Not Ride" and their Huss Pirate, Tidal Wave, is still "Under 36" May Not Ride, Riders between 36" and 50" Must Sit in Designated Seats"
  9. Minimum 60" for a Bobs? That must be a Typo, right? That's almost Double the Height Requirement for any other transportable chance bobs I've seen!
  10. From what I understand, Stengel did design for them. I know they did a lot of the early inverts (Katun, Batman, Pyrnees, Montu, Dueling Dragons, Nemesis, etc) as well as a number of others (Kumba, Dragon Khan, Hulk, Raging Bull, etc) and I *believe* the last design they did for B&M was Nemesis Inferno. And then from that point on, all the design was brought in house, and things got much "tamer." Thank you very much kind sir.
  11. You'd be surprised to hear how often this actually happens! Ok, maybe not perhaps "Surprise me", but that a park will tell a ride company "we need a ride for this space. Come up with something." Often times a park will not actually know exactly what they want and will get bids from both wood and steel manufactures, for radically different designs, and THEN they will land on something. I heard many stories that there were a lot of bids that were submitted for Gatekeeper, and that ride companies were basically told "We want something that goes over the new front entrance to the park." Or a park will go to a ride company and go "We need something new and recent - what have you got?" So yes, while you are correct that it's very rare that a park says "surprise me", it's VERY common that a park will not give a ride company as many details as you'd think. When B&M stopped using Stengal to design their rides, they stopped being as intense. I have no doubt in my mind that the change from more forceful B&Ms to tamer B&Ms designs had more to do with simply having different designers that are into different things than it had to do with maintenance costs. You ask some of the parks who have those more intense B&Ms and a newer, tamer one in the same park, and they'll tell you that maintenance issues are the same. As far as the recent B&M bashing here, all I'll say is this - Has any of us really ridden a B&M that we didn't "like" and at least have "fun" on? It just so happens that they don't produce OMFG AWESOME RIDES like the used to, and I think that's why many of us get upset. B&M went from producing AAA+ coasters to very solid B+ rides now. And a B+ ride is still really good, but it's not a AAA+ I should have been more clear. Dang Allergies! The park has the final say on what is built so they have control of what they want built. I also didn't mean to make it sound as though B&Ms have Maintenance Issues, Wheel Wear is something that requires constant Monitoring on Daily Safety Checks. The more Intense and Fast a Coaster is, the more Daily Wheel Wear it will have requiring more often wheel changes and thus labor. I'm just happy Congruent Silicone Wheels are no longer used. Also Robb, did Stengel actually Design them or did his firm just do the Engineering, Calculations, and send them to the Fabricator?
  12. I love how people really think designing a coaster is what the Manufacturer wants, when they are actually designing what the park wants. It's not like parks go up to a Ride Manufacturer and say "Surprise Me!" People also have no idea how much it costs to maintain a ride, and that is probably why B&M are designing these Tamer and Less Aggressive Coasters. A park is going to look at a ride and say, where can we save some for bottom line. Take the "B&M Rattle" for instance, that is all caused by Worn Wheels (Nicks, Cuts, Ruts, etc.) on the Tire and/or need for the Rubber "Shock Absorbers" to be replaced on the Bogies. A tamer ride is going to require less labor and parts to maintain, which is good for both the Park and Consumer.
  13. Fire Dragon at Lagoon has more of Foot/Ankle Bar, but it doesn't really contact the body. The "shin guard," for lack of a better term, on Wicked's "Lap Trays" contact my shins a bit, but I use my shins to not get Stapled on Both Sides of the Launch Tower.
  14. Except Cannibal isn't a Family Coaster, isn't Made by Zierer, and will be 3-4 Times Taller and Faster. lol I would really like to see how these ESCs compare to BomBora.
  15. ^ We do Potlucks once a month at Lagoon over on LagoonisFun. Might want to check one out.
  16. Isn't Cedar Fair still operating each park as it's own Individual Business Unit? If so, then I would imagine management has remained the same with the VP and GM of each park calling the shots on local decisions with input on corporate capital expenditures.
  17. ^ and Side by Side, like Pilgrim's Plunge/Giraffica and Divertical at that, into what could be the Tallest Immelmann Inversion.
  18. Thanks for the Update _Koppen! The red and dark green looks really good.
  19. So, is this "No Single Riders in the Front and Back Row" like what Lagoon did after the two deaths in 1989 where there must be Two Riders in the Front and Back Rows?
  20. They are just Buckles for Hang Gliding and Paragliding...nothing special.
  21. I'm no expert, but I don't see how removing a foam covered concrete channel maybe 36" deep could "undermine the stability" of the hill and rest of the slides. Didn't they have to remove part of the hill for shipwreck falls when they built that?
  22. If Lagoon can operate 3 Trains on Fire Dragon I can't see why Scorpion can't run 2!
  23. It says calculated by Stengel, which means that Gerstlauer has designed the coaster, and then Stengel have been calculating it so se if it's realistic, or if something has to be changed. So mostly done by Gerstlauer, and maybe a few changes made by Stengel. *Gives Standing Ovation* Stengel has been getting Credit for "Designing" Coasters for way too long when his Firm only does the Calculating and Plans for the Fabricator.
  24. Can't remember the name of it, but there is a factory in France they are using. Thanks _Koppen! I guess that leaves Mack, Gerstlauer, Zamperla, Vekoma, and Maurer as the only ones that Manufacturer their own trains?
