Amusement Ride Breakdown!
linearinduction replied to Mr Stratosphere's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Got stuck on It's a Small World at Disneyland for 20 Minutes right at the end of the ride in '95. 20 Minutes of that darn song and I never need or want to ride or hear it again! -Sid -

Eh, it varies like exposure and weather, but If I remember correctly, I believe they powdercoat their track and supports at the factory. The stuff they use must not be very UV resistant as it does have tendency to fade and break down after a few seasons, especially when exposed like Wicked Twister and Top Thrill Dragster. Comes off as a powdery substance if touched. Also could be a factor is that they only coat the track in a thin coat with an air gun, whereas using a paint roller, it goes on thicker. The heavy duty paint that they painted Raptor and Mantis back in 2005 has held up pretty well. Usually repaints last much longer than the original factory paint. I do like the fact that they went with white supports on Gatekeeper. Makes the coaster look much nicer on the beach and the paint fade won't be noticeable. I'm pretty sure Stakotra just paints the Track and Uprights. Working on Lagoon's Fire Dragon and Wild Mouse, where you have to physically push and pull the transfer tracks, the paint comes off as kinda powdery on your hands. -Sid -

Mouse actually had Purple Track, which i kinda miss, but I'm really digging the Green. Maybe they are trying to steal the Fire and Ice idea from IOA. Except that Lagoon had the Blue "Fire Dragon" 16 Years before IOA. lol -

^ Lagoon's Fire Dragon has always been Blue! At least it no longer has the Seafoam Green Uprights it had with Bruch in Germany! lol - Sid -
Lagoon Discussion Thread

Lagoon opened for their 127th Season this past Saturday with several changes and additions. The two new family rides from Zamperla, Tipsey Tea Cups (midi tea cup) and Red Rock Rally (speedway), did not open due to being held up in customs. The Rides and the Areas around them look Great and can't wait to see them operating this Weekend. Other changes this year include Lagoon's Maurer Wild Mouse having it's Track painted from Purple to Leap Frog Green, Lagoon's Rock-O-Plane received a "hypnotizing" new color scheme, and Fire Dragon celebrating it's 25th Anniversary at the Park with New Blue and Cream Paint. Unfortunately, Wild Mouse's Structure wasn't repainted and the Waiting Zones, Reduction, Loops, and Station on Fire Dragon were also not repainted. But here's a preview: Wild Mouse with New Leap Frog Green Track Wild Mouse with New Leap Frog Green Track Fire Dragon's Completed Repaint Fire Dragon's Shiny New Drop and North Carousel Tipsey Tea Cups Ride System and Pavilion New Paths and Area around the Tea Cups The Tea Cups freshly unloaded Close Up of a Cup with the Lagoon Logo of Course. Best Family Coaster
linearinduction replied to Randomman295's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think a true "Family Coaster" should have a Minimum Height Requirement Under 48". I would say BomBora at Lagoon is the Best Family Coaster (36" Minimum) with the On Board Audio and Lighting, G Forces, Elements, Comfy Seats and Lap Bars, and it's SMOOOOTH! Definitely the Most Smooth and Aggressive Family Coaster I've been on, compared to both Models of the Vekoma Roller Skater and a couple of Zierer Tivolis. -Sid The POV was authorized by Lagoon Park's Management [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] -

^ Lagoon operates theirs on one system, so they load one while the other cycles and it works out pretty well. I believe the two at phantasialand operate independently if I remember correctly. - Sid -

^ Satan's Spawn is a great way to explain the Zierer Family Drop Towers! Hope I can make it on the Scandi Trip to experience that 4th Ride Cycle! Do you know if the towers will share the same hydraulic system or operate independently? -Sid -
New B&M trains on Steel Dragon
linearinduction replied to Trevor's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm pretty sure the "B&M Rattle" people speak of is an issue of worn wheels. Sometimes Roller Coaster at Lagoon is smoother than Wicked, Dragon, and Spider. - Sid (Worn Wheel Anti-Enthusiast) -
If anything, that feature will be removed if/when it causes too much downtime. I see it being a problem for that reason...definitely not for energy consumption I'm not sure how the reverse launch would cause any down time. If Premier uses the Prolim LSMs as Brakes in conjunction with a Flywheel Inverter, full throttle will be able to operate completely off the grid during operation, like Wicked does at Lagoon. -Sid

Theoretical capacity is 950pph for this model by Mack. Actual capacity will vary depending on operation, more than likely it's no higher than 600. The people per hour from the manufacturer is never really true. Example I can give is Shivering Timbers, CCI states for that coaster there's a 1200pph capacity. In reality, it hardly ever get that high, maybe 700 during peak hours if the crew runs the coaster well and guests are efficient. Not many coasters and rides actually hit their manufacturer's capacity due to a lot of factors. I've hit 850 operating Lagoon's Maurer Wild Mouse and 1,199 on Lagoon's Rattlesnake Rapids, an Intamin River Rapids Ride. Capacity for a Maurer Mouse is 900 and Lagoon's River Rapids Ride is 1,200. So rides CAN be operated at or near capacity as stated by the Manufacturer. -Sid

I'm always happy to share nerdy info! lol There should have been track that was delivered this past Monday as well and everything is on schedule to be delivered by the end of the month, but I think that's common knowledge. Intermountain Lift should be working on Lagoon's new for 2015 "Mega Coaster" over the summer as well. -Sid
-
A friend of mine, who works for Intermountain Lift, told me they fabricate track and uprights according to the plans they get from the structural engineers. Ties, Spines, and Rails are determined by the structural engineers and the low profile ties are used where hardware needs to be installed in the track or where hardware mounted to the chassis could impact the ties. Rutin, Intamin's upright and track fabricator in Hungary, fabricates track with low profile ties as well. -Sid

Those Zierer Family Freefall Towers are Deceptively EVIL! So happy Lagoon bought a pair in 2006! I actually prefer the Zierer Towers to Lagoon's S&S Towers, is that sad? -Sid -
Top Roller Coaster Myths & Rumors!
linearinduction replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That so and so's brother's friend's cousin's uncle's aunt's obese daughter's car fell off the track and died on Lagoon's Old Wild Mouse and that's why it was Closed. -Sid -
Having Operated Lagoon's Rock-O-Plane for a couple of seasons, I can confirm that the Loading Brake and Door/Lapbar are not interconnected. The best way to start spinning is to pull back on the lap bar at the bottom and release at the top. I really loathed operating Rock-O, but I always did it with a Smile! -Sid
