What Powers Onboard Audio?
linearinduction replied to KevinM's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Actually using an Alternator on a Roller Coaster to power lighting has been done before. Fire Dragon at Lagoon, a Schwarzkopf Looping Coaster, has trains with headlights and back lights that are powered by an Alternator under the front of the train. The Alternator is wired to the Front Wheel Housing and Front Axel to charge it. The headlights turn on when the train is about half way down the First Drop and Shut Off once the train enters reduction. Jet Star 2 at Lagoon also uses a similar system for the Head Lights and Back Lights on each Car and Wicked has Red Lights on the Back of each Train, but I don't know how those are charged. Kind of on the same topic, how many other coasters have on board safety systems that detect if a lap bar is lowered enough? Wicked has one and Lagoon installed one on Roller Coaster in 2008, which may be a first for a Wooden Coaster. - Sid P.S. Jordan (themeparkman25) I believe you saw all of this first hand at Lagoon. -
Opryland U.S.A.
linearinduction replied to montezooma's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
After Doe River Gorge, Rachel was donated to the city of Grapevine, Texas, by Gaylord. Beatrice (#1/#4) was a 2-4-4 Steam Locomotive like Rachel, but later Converted to a Diesel Hydraulic 2-4-0 by Opryland. Elizabeth was Manufactured by Custom Fabricators (Just like the Great America Trains) for Opryland. Rachel Info Beatrice and Elizabeth Info, Scroll Down to 1993. - Sid -

Shane's Amusement Attic
linearinduction replied to montezooma's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You know Shane, one of the Live Shows Directors at Opryland, Mark Huffman, was the Director of Live Entertainment at Lagoon from 1996 - 2003. Mark, and his Wife Christy, now Direct the Live Entertainment at Disney's Hollywood Studios. -
Unfortunately, that's what you kept saying all Summer. However, it would make a great addition to Lagoon, but we both know what would happen with that. Who knows Shane, you guys might have the money in a couple years if we have some blazing hot weather and still buy it. Is there room for it in Tukwila? My offer for Services is still good if you get a hold of it one day!

Kennywood (KW) Discussion Thread

Someone has already confirmed that those supports aren't from Premier. Unless some other manufacturer has changed the design of their Support Columns, they are identical to those used on Round About. -
Kennywood (KW) Discussion Thread
linearinduction replied to DenDen's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I was really hoping the Support Columns were for Skyrocket, but I guess that was just far fetched wishful thinking. Once again, blame Parques Reunidos for taking so long to make a decision. The budget restraints that they put on the park were one of the biggest issues with the project. It got so ridiculous that Premier actually gave the park a deadline, luckily they jumped the gun early enough and the project is being built. On a side note, has anyone thought that maybe Lagoon is getting a new coaster for next year? Why do these supposed "connections" Kennywood has with Lagoon mean that the coaster parts found at Lagoon are Kennywood's? I highly doubt the park would store their parts at another park when they have their own parking lot. Any Idea what the Budget for Skyrocket was? The Connections between Lagoon and Kennywood are existent, not supposed. The reason why the possibility of the Supports belonging to Kennywood is because Intermountain Lift, Inc. in Springville, Utah, is Premier Ride's Fabricator for Track and Support Columns. The Support Columns at Lagoon are Identical to those on Round About at Freestyle Music Park. Lagoon has also been looking at building another Large Coaster for 2011, and possibly a new small Family Coaster for 2010, however, the support columns seem to be a little large for a Family Coaster, and again, are Identical to those used on Round About. -

Management from Kennywood and Lagoon have been close for many years, infact, Lagoon actually hosts Management from Kennywood every winter for a Ski Vacation. Intermountain Lift, Inc. in Springville, Utah is the Track and Support Column Fabricator for Premier Rides. Spectrum Manufacturing in Hyrum, Utah, is the Fabricator of the Trains on the Outer Limits Coasters and Backlot Stunt Coasters. Sky Rocket could be a Complete Product of Utah! If this project is behind schedule, considering the relationship between Lagoon's and Kennywood's Management, the Cream Colored Support Columns being stored at Lagoon *COULD* belong to Sky Rocket. - Sid "Praying the Premier Support Columns at Lagoon are for Sky Rocket" Vernon What on earth are you talking about?! What are you Confused about? -

Cowabunga Bay waterpark
linearinduction replied to montezooma's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There's no need for a Park Map! lol You can see the entire park from any place in the park. Shane, pulling down those umbrella's in the Hail on Sunday was the most fun I've had in a LONG Time! As for the weather since then, it hasn't been all that great, but we are supposed to finally get rid of all of the storms and cool temps next week! I think they have forecast 90 Degrees for next week. - Sid -

Are you sure that wasn't just from putting down umbrellas in that rain/hail storm we dad today? - Sid -
Not to mention why would a park unload Containers they were not expecting. Usually there is also someone on site from the Manufacturer at the park beginning when Parts begin to arrive/footers are poured through opening of the ride. So it all seems more and more less probable these support columns were destined for another park. - Sid

I highly doubt Support Columns could be delivered to the wrong park. Someone at KD, with authorization, would have had to sign the Delivery Manifest which would have listed the Customer and Supplier, origin of the shipment, the contents, weight, and where it was to be delivered. It's highly doubtful someone from KD would have signed a Delivery Manifest for Carowinds, unless someone made a big mistake with paperwork. - Sid

Can't wait to see everything today during Opening Drill Shane! - Sid -
Depending on the Part that needs to be replaced and the Availability of said part, it can take Weeks to Several Months for a Park to receive a part from the Manufacturer. Samurai, a Mondial Top Scan at Lagoon Park, had it's Main Gear Box Fail on June 02, 2007, and Lagoon didn't get the new Gearbox from Mondial until February. Mondial informed Lagoon immediately that it would take Eight Months to get a new Bearing and rebuild the Main Gear Box, which Lagoon posted on a sign that they placed in front of the Ride. Usually, Lagoon just uses their standard "Due to the Late Arrival of Maintenance Parts, this Ride is Temporarily Closed" Sign. The Sign: - Sid

Millennium Force Cable
linearinduction replied to CPmaverick's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I guess this time they didn't use the Duct Tape like in '01. I still remember walking to Challenge Park at 9:15am on Sunday, September 02, 2001 and noticing Millennium Force stopped on the lift. I don't understand why the Catch Car is hanging over the Drop, as it runs in it's own Track within the Running Track. When the Cable Snapped in 2001, about 20ft above the Catch Car, it crashed down into the Station. So the Catch Car hanging off the Drop just has me scratching my head. - Sid -
