Thorpe Park Discussion Thread
nannerdw replied to Rooey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm pretty sure Mumjo Jumbo and Steel Hawg each have a magnetic brake down the first drop. If that is not taken into consideration, then Screamin Squirrels should hold the world record for the steepest first drop with a brake, followed by the portable Cool and Fresh coasters. Saw: The Ride will have the steepest drop without a brake. -

14/20 Pretty good, since I haven't been keeping up with the 2009 rides. -
Fact about Euro Fighters
nannerdw replied to JFrombaugh's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think the first vertical drop on Mystery Mine pulls more -g's than the 95 degree drop. At least it felt that way. -
Logos: how do you make them?
nannerdw replied to DCQ-coasters's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Paint.NET is pretty easy to use, and it has lots of good features. Inkscape is a good vector graphics program for logos, too. IMO, MS Paint is really just for pixel art, and not much else. -
Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
nannerdw replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
For some reason, these non-curving drops seem to give more of that feeling of losing your stomach than parabolic drops. I think that it will be very thrilling, even at only 45 degrees. The lift will definitely be the most intimidating part, though. -
I thought the top of the Voyage's lift was a little bit higher up the hill from that area with the construction markers. Deja Vu might be lower down then, but it's hard to tell from pictures because of all the trees. Wicked Twister was $9 million, and I think the price of steel has gone up since then. I'm going to stop guessing now. I think I can wait 6 more days I guess all of the clues can really only point to one thing, though; a new Pepsi Oasis stand
-
I'm really hoping it's Deja Vu now. That would be a really good addition to the park if they could get it running properly. It's also very cheap; Silverwood only spent $3 million for it. clues: "Really tall", "dropping" "It gave me such a lift to finally 'get it.'" vertical lift hills "I mean the ride type has been around a long time" it's 7 years old. "In the back." it actually has a back row, and it might be a hint to the fact that it goes backwards "There's just a new way of getting from here to there that I finally understand." The shuttle concept and riding backwards "In case you don't recognize the dad's legs, let's zoom out to get a look at this stately fellow."..."Let's zoom out even more so you can see how Korey's almost as tall as the Holidog statue." stately: being transported from another state and standing "almost as tall" as the Voyage? "Too bad the name is already taken ...or I think we'd need to consider the name 'Vertigo' for our new ride." It's vertical "Tallest in the world" I think it is the tallest lift hill-powered shuttle coaster. They have only budgeted $8.4 million, $5.1 million less than last season, yet still hinting that the new ride will stand almost as tall as the Voyage. Deja Vu seems to fit these clues very well. There are probably a lot more clues that I have missed, which probably lead in a completely different direction

Surprise crotch buster
nannerdw replied to Rollerman87's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
When I rode Acro, it just felt like the restraint was holding me in by the hips. I didn't notice the crotch smashing that so many people like to complain about. I think they switched out the seats for a more comfortable style since the ride was built, though. I think Huss restraints are some of the worst. Tomb Raider: The Ride at King's Island had the worst ball-crushing restraints, and I think their giant frisbee rides use the same ones. It's just not as painful on a frisbee, since you aren't being held completely upside down. Second worst were the Mystery Mine restraints. It wasn't extremely painful, but it does pretty much hold you in your seat by your crotch. The restraints also tighten throughout the ride, making it really annoying when they stack strains and you have to wait a while to be let off. -
Behemoth "may harm riders" Diamondback, too.

Worried about riding Mantis
nannerdw replied to MASH80554077's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
They always tell you to keep your head back against the headrest, but I find it more comfortable to push forward into the restraint on rides with bad headbanging. When you push yourself forward, the restraint prevents your shoulders from moving around. I used this technique on the painful entry into Raptor's brake run, and it kept me from getting my head bashed into the restraint. -

Best themed No Limits track
nannerdw replied to 8rodoeht's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Oops, sorry. Every time I see that name, I think "Pyther" in my head. I'm just completely amazed with some of these people's texturing abilities, though. I think a lot of the top builders have copies of 3ds Max to play around with. I have tried to learn texturing in Blender and Anim8or, and it's unbelievably difficult to figure out. I'm sure it's still very difficult in 3ds Max, though. -
Best themed No Limits track
nannerdw replied to 8rodoeht's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
I was most impressed by these: 1. Thunderhead Falls: Pyther 2. Flight of Fear: Pyther 3. Evenoss: Xtreme rider 4. Top Thrill Dragster: Real I think all of these are on Coastersims.com -
They just put that in this year. Reindeer Games. I just thought of a great idea. It drops and it's in the Thanksgiving section, so it could be one of those weird drop rides with like 10-across seating that shakes and tilts around at the top before dropping, themed to the mast of a ship with the seats going across the beam that holds the rolled-up sail.

Dont you ever get Scared?
nannerdw replied to Joan_Crawford's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I still get nervous about going on drop towers, but not enough to keep me from riding. I would be afraid to go on a slingshot ride. They have a pretty bad safety record on rideaccidents.com I'm also kind of afraid to ride T2, hearing mixed opinions on how rough it actually is. -
Worried about riding Mantis
nannerdw replied to MASH80554077's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The last time I rode Mantis, the ride op made sure everyone's legs were completely straight when the seats locked. I thought this rule was just rude and unnecessary. I just had to wait until they weren't looking and bend my knees a little. Every time I go on Georgia Scorcher, I bend my knees slightly when the seats lock. Don't bend them so much that you are unable to stand up straight during the ride, though. It's not hard to keep yourself off of the seat on those rides as long as you have some space in-between yourself and the seat. -
Coaster Designing
nannerdw replied to where'smyhotdog's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
It looks way too flimsy. I think you should stick with a more realistic B&M style track. A curved section of Intamin track would be pretty difficult to pull off in Inventor. -
Coaster Designing
nannerdw replied to where'smyhotdog's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
For Inventor, the import coordinates add-on can take point cloud information from a spread sheet and automatically connect the points with a spline. If you could find a way to save a Nolimits track as a series of data points in a spreadsheet, it could be very useful for making roller coasters. The Badnitrus website also has part of a tutorial for making coasters in 3D Studio Max. Badnitrus -
Holiday World Expansion 2009?
nannerdw replied to spaceace12's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm going to guess Screamin' Swing. -
I had no idea rides like this ran in America. I'm lucky to even find a Zipper at the carnivals around here. All of those Mondial rides are especially rare to find in the U.S. Does anyone know if the Airwolf or Flying Circus rides have appeared at any American fairs?

If you keep your registration code, you can just download it again reactivate it. I installed NL on my laptop that way. -
Indiana Beach (IB) Discussion Thread
nannerdw replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The wall turn looks awesome. I would like to see something like that as the first drop for a ride, kind of like a mini Expedition Geforce drop. The whole thing almost looks like a caricature of a real ride. The track is so small, and it looks like it barely has enough crossties to support the rails. It reminds me of one of those K'nex Vertical Vengeance coasters.
