HELP!!! RCT 3/ compuer question
nannerdw replied to the ghost's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
I agree. I have had a few compatibility issues running Vista, but I have almost always found a workaround (except in the case of AIM. AOL+Vista=major problems). After shutting off some of Vista's more annoying features, I have been surprised at what a stable system it really is. I have a Dell laptop with Vista and a decent ATI graphics card, and RCT3 runs just fine on it. On my old XP computer I had an issue similar to what you are experiencing, where the screen would turn black as if the game were about to start loading, but then it would immediately go back to the desktop. A problem like this is most likely associated with your graphics card. It turned out that I was trying to run it with an MX series Nvidia Geforce card, which was incompatible with the game. Just make sure you have the latest drivers to your graphics card and all of the game patches from Atari. Also, if you have not tried this already, you might want to see if it will run in XP compatibility mode. Just right click on the game icon, and go to properties: compatibility, compatibility mode. Also check "Disable Desktop Composition" if you get the game to run but have any problems with it running too slow. This temporarily stops the Windows Aero background processes that eat up your memory while you are trying to run a game. This is especially helpful for computers with only 1GB of RAM. -

Waterslide Contest (RCT2)
nannerdw replied to riccoaster's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Do you need to get a permit to build something like that? What materials/tools are you planning to use to make the slide? -
I don't understand what you're saying. How would your legs get jammed into the slide? You would not get "launched" anywhere. It's like going through a helix on a regular slide, except tilted up at about a 45 degree angle. It's pretty much the same as going through an overbanked turn on a roller coaster.

According to the Six Flags website, Shockwave was made by Intamin -
The first 2 pictures show some experimenting with the angle of the loop. You can see that the supporting tower is much farther away from the splashdown in the second picture, making the loop less steep. There is also no reason for the bottom piece of the slide to be covered. You can barely see it in the first picture, but I think there is a small opening right before the loop. This thing looks much safer than the old one. With the inclined loop, you will just slide backwards if you are unlucky enough not to make it over the top, rather than actually falling straight down and hitting the slide on the way down.

Leviathan [NL]
nannerdw replied to Steffen_Dk's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
It looks very fast and compact. I think Leviathan is a really awesome name for a ride, too. Looking at the second picture, I think the wraparound cobra roll inversion needs to start banking sooner. The top of the inversion should not be exactly 180 degrees. It also looks like it banks all the way back to 0 degrees about halfway through the turn coming out of the inversion. You should keep this part banked at around 30 to 40 degrees to reduce the lateral g's. -
I like the layout and pace of the ride, and it was very smooth for the most part. However, the lateral g's were uncomfortably high in some places, especially the entrance to the MCBR and the slight turn into the second corkscrew, which both need to be banked more. I know it would be a lot of trouble to go back and fix these now, since you already placed the supports, but I think a lower filter value in the AHG would fix these banking issues.
-
I thought I would try using 3 trains, but they ended up stacking for up to 25 seconds at the end. It's really hard without a MCBR or having separate load/unload stations. My ride's official name is now "Grape Crush." It is named after the soda and also what it does to the riders I have put up a NLDC page for the ride, too.

^I'm sure PKI ManJZ was just being sarcastic If that were actually built, I think it would feel something like , only much larger and less painful.

I'll enter the contest, too. This is my first time using the FVD formulas, but I think it turned out pretty well. This ride is heavily inspired by the Georgia Scorcher. I'm working on the supports right now. height: 100 ft length: 2376 ft max speed: 50 mph Once it is done, should I post it in a reply or send it to you, CoasterNut17? Overall Layout These parts were inspired by GA Scorcher's awesome banked camelback!

Roller Coaster Wheel Assembly
nannerdw replied to dckwrth74's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is just a cross section of one wheel, but it might help. http://www.freepatentsonline.com/6598919-0-large.jpg Also, according to the Premier Rides specs page, the standard diameter for a running rail is 5", and the standard track gauge is 3'. However, the Badnitrous Productions tutorial estimated the B&M rail diameter at 5.5" and the track gauge at 4'. Are you making an entire 6-wheel and mount assembly, or just one wheel? -
Hades - First coaster to travel underneath a whole parking lot (twice!) XLR-8 - First coaster to begin with the letter X. Dragon-Khan- First B&M with a completely straight first drop (not curved to the left or right)

Hello, Title Fairy. I tried this once before, but I don't think I did a very good job. I now consider myself to be a "Pro Rock-O-Plane Flyer." You do enjoy flying, don't you Title Fairy?

Hello Title Fairy. I would be most grateful if you could change mine to something that fits my avatar. By the way, I am a professional at Rock-O-Plane flying. Don't you enjoy flying, Magical Title Fairy?
