Lagoon Discussion Thread
JG-77 replied to Twister II's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Since nobody has done so yet, thought I might post this update I found from Coaster Studios on the supposed new coaster at Lagoon - massive land clearing and stuff being stuck into the ground. Thoughts? Personally this is quite intriguing, I didn't know until today that Lagoon's apparently planning a new coaster. Very exciting! -
Adventureland (Iowa) Discussion Thread
JG-77 replied to rbpia's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If they did buy it from Dixie Land (not saying they did - I have no clue), the 6 million might include the cost of transportation, removing the inverter, clearing the land, building the ride, and getting it operational, on top of the initial price, as well as other costs I didn’t think of. -
The exact clone of this ride at another Six Flags park would like a word with you. While I'm told that it technically has a second train (though that might just be an urban legend) it's rarely even on the transfer track and reports of it actually using both at the same time generally only pop up once every few years. Personally I've never even seen it. You can't see a small market Six Flags park operating one train on a major attraction? Really? That's like saying you can't see a small market Wal Mart operating with only one cash register open. Actually the majority of my visits to SFA this year have seen two train operations on most of the coasters that were running - heck, I even caught dual-station Batwing on two separate visits, and I've never seen Superman's 2nd train anywhere other than in operation or on the transfer track. Granted most of my visits were on busier days, but still impressive considering SFA's reputation. Heck, even the dispatch times were generally tolerable. Anyway back to your regularly scheduled battle on how SF should change DL

The Official "TPR Coaster Poll" Thread!
JG-77 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I’m in favor of including “favorite x.” As far as the sediment that not everyone will be familiar with what ”x” is, I think most people who would actually want to take the poll are enough of enthiasts to know what they are. If possible, it could be useful to either have a section of the site dedicated to these clones where all the “favorite x”s are listed. If possible, it would also be useful to have the site designed so that if you search for a specific example of one of these clones the site automatically pulls up the option of “favorite x” or at least redirects to it. If not being familiar with the terminology is a concern, it may be useful to have a built in text area where it tells you what an SlC is, or what a Boomerange is, etc. Idk if that’s something the website can support though. I know that I personally would be interested in where the favorite “x”s would be ranked. -
The Official "TPR Coaster Poll" Thread!
JG-77 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Personally I don't see a very good reason to list all the 20,000 mostly crappy pinfaris nobody really cares about. As far as if there is a breaking point, I'd say possibly, as if the list gets to cluttered with crappy pinfaris that could make it annoying when comparing the large coasters people actually care about. I would say that its ok to include some small number of Pinfari-like coasters if they're unique or good enough, but I agree with the policy of ignoring the vast majority of them. Also while we're on the topic of Pinfari's, while obviously this wouldn't qualify for the poll, The zyklon at the Maryland state fair was actually quite good in the back row - smooth, comfortable, nice floater on the 2 drops, lap bar that sits several inches above you with no seatbelt letting you rise up quite a bit, and fun laterals at the end. -
I've rode 13 (14 if you count two sides of dueling coasters) + 2 defunct: Boulder Dash Roar Wild One El Toro Phoenix Twister (Knoebles) Flying Turns Comet (Hershey) Wildcat (Hershey) Lightning Racers (Both sides) Viper Goliath American Eagle (Red only) Defunct: Mean Streak Cyclone (SFNE)* *My memories riding this are very foggy. It is possible I actually rode Thunderbolt, or even both of them, but the few stray memories I have of whichever wood coaster(s) I rode make me lean towards Cyclone.

^ I had the identical experience, but it stopped doing that when I added "https://" to the link I have bookmarked

I've had that problem a bit too, I think currently the best solution is just type "https://" before the www.themparkreview... part.

I don't really mind having a bunch of ads, and TPR with a ton of ads is always better than no TPR at all. The one thing that annoys me is how every single time I click a link I have to wait an extra few seconds while the screen jumps all over the place to make space for the ads. If there was some way to reduce the amount of time the site spends working out the spacing, that would be great, but if that's not possible with the way the site is structured, or would be too much work for what you get out of it, I completely understand. Also I second everyone's opinions on the vids in the corner, nice touch! Can't wait to see more videos up there.

Knoebels Discussion Thread
JG-77 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Knoebles removing an awesome ride? Is this the end of the world? Certainly sad to see it go, that was an awesome little flat, though I believe it did have maintenance and downtime difficulties (at least it did when I visited). Hope it's replaced by something fun! I will admit a part of me is hoping that we're misinterpreted what Knoebles meant by that post and that downdraft isn't actually leaving, but I'm not holding my breath. -
Trail. Superman SFA or Superman SFDK?

Carowinds Discussion Thread
JG-77 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Your post made me curious so I looked through RCDB, and turns out Pony Express was built in 2008 so you're off by a year. That was also the year Possessed was relocated to Dorney, but I don't think we're counting re-locations. Still, pretty interesting that this will be Cedar Fair's 1st launch coaster in 11 years. -
Been there. Done that. Now what?
JG-77 replied to coasterBro's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Have you done Germany? It probably has the best coaster collection of any single European country, with GeForce, Karnan, Taron, as well as Europa Park which from what I hear is one of the best overall amusement parks in the world (even if the coasters themselves aren't top ten or anything). Also have you considered China? The most coasters in any country in the world, including Mega-Lites, a gigantic Intamin hyper, a lot of really good looking B&M's nobody talks about, a lot of really cool parks nobody talks about, and a surprisingly diverse lineup of other assorted Intamins, Gravity Groups, GCI's S&S launchers, and some really cool looking new Vekoma's in the coming years (also more Intamins). One thing to keep in mind about China though is that area-wise it's larger than the size of the continental US, so unfortunately you'd probably need multiple trips or crazy amounts of time if you wanted to hit all the highlights. Finally, I've heard really good things about DC Rivals, which may put Australia on your radar. -
^Broadway Trip? (if it hasn't been answered for over a month you can use rcdb right?)

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
JG-77 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Rumor has it that they're building another strata coaster. Except this one actually is on top of Top Thrill Dragster. Instead of starting at the ground and launching 400ft in the air, you climb up to the top of TTD's top hat, get on the coaster, and then launch off of that another 420ft in the air until you're 880ft off the ground. Then the rockets turn on and you fly over to Kings Island where you duel their Giga for a while before flying back to Cedar piont. Just a rumor, though, I wouldn't put too much weight on it... -

parks and season passes and addons
JG-77 replied to thetimmer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
As far as season passes in general, Six Flags has one of the best deals out there - Unlimited access to Every single park and every single water park in the chain, plus discounts across all that parks for under $70, depending on what deal you get, and which park you get it at. If I were you, I'd go to Six Flags America to pick up your pass - yes, it's further from you than Six Flags Great Adventure (probably), but the prices are significantly cheaper. -
No, I'm also getting more ads and I do not have a virus on my pc, so I think it's normal. Well at least I know it's not a virus. Big relief. Robb made a thread where he discusses how he's putting more ads on the site since it's getting less traffic than it has in the past.
