OK, the thought of Barry coughing up hairballs has created an image in my mind that will likely keep me awake for many, many nights. Thanks, Lou... dt

Choose thy fate... Gardaland 2008
Meteornotes replied to BDG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I disagree, that Magic Mountain ride was perfectly themed. After all, with a gigantic line, they took a train off, and went to one train operation for no reason. If that doesn't say "Magic Mountain", I don't know how else they could theme it. Maybe hire line jumpers or something... dt -
Awesome report so far, Jahan. The Motor stunt show in France is SO much better, because it doesn't have all the annoying stops in the action. I'm guessing US insurance laws have a lot to do with that. I enjoyed the show in MGM when I saw it, but I can see why sitting in the sun all that time would make it not fun (that whole area should be covered, in my opinion). I also think they really need to add a new major ride to MGM. But at least there are places to eat there, unlike Animal Kingdom. Looking forward to the next installment... dt

In one of those ultra-rare times that I'm totally serious, I want to say congrats to both of you, and I know that you two will be great parents, the sort that any child would be very lucky to have. Having said that, I, of course, will do my best to turn this kid on to the joys of metal. It's never too early to give a child their first Opeth CD... dt

I'm home, I'm tired, I'm doing laundry, and I cannot wait until next year. Every time we go to Orlando, I say "best trip ever". Well, this year was no different, as it was again the best trip I've yet taken to the Orlando area. Renting the house was a way cool idea, all of the parks rocked, the Halloween events were great, and there was plenty of in-van entertainment. Thanks Robb & Elissa for setting all of this up. I took no photos, but will post my thoughts on stuff (especially the Halloween stuff) later... dt

The Sky Ride at Hersheypark 1974-1992
Meteornotes replied to Ccron10's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It did indeed have a storage area. I'm sure buried in a box somewhere around here are tons of old pictures of Hersheypark. Some time over the winter I'll have to go through them and post any interesting ones. dt -
The Sky Ride at Hersheypark 1974-1992
Meteornotes replied to Ccron10's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm not sure what questions I could answer, but the Sky Ride was just one of the many rides I worked while working at the park from 1979-84. This ride was not a lot of fun to work, as you had to manually stop the cars, unload, then push it around to load people on the other side. Usually there were two people at each station, but sometimes staffing problems had only one person on each side. You got your exercise on those days. dt -
I have always wondered how many people use their pass at more than one park during a year. I'm thinking that number is pretty small. Free parking anywhere is an amazing bonus, though. I never figured they'd do that. Almost makes me want to buy a SFA parking pass next year. It would seal the deal if they didn't insist that it must be put on the windshield... dt

I think that if someone actually managed to get Hershey's flyers to snap, it would be one of the last signs of the apocalypse, and the sun would explode. Looks like you had a good day. Hersheypark rules! dt -

These PTR's keep getting better and better. Wes rules! Although I may have to deduct a point from the total, as Ohana's is entirely overrated. I would actually rather eat at Olive Garden... dt -
What Was the Last Beer You Drank?
Meteornotes replied to robbalvey's topic in Random, Random, Random
Due to the satanic NFL TV rules, we had to go out to watch the Eagles game today. While out, I enjoyed a Sam Adam's Oktoberfest, which was quite tasty. Too bad my drinking of such excellent beer did not somehow cause an Eagle victory... dt -
Agreed. Highly overrated attraction. Cool report and pics. Looking forward to my next visit... dt

Disney Characters gone wild?
Meteornotes replied to dubaidave's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I can't believe I haven't seen this on TV yet. We all know how news (especially local news) loves sensationalism. Yeah, sure, Disney legal will deal with it. But I think the point is, they shouldn't have to. People should have enough sense to not do stuff like this. And they REALLY should have enough sense to not tape it! I can only imagine that all employees have to sign a contract that makes all sorts of behavior grounds for dismissal. You would think someone involved would say "hmm, we're doing stuff we're not supposed to be doing, we probably should put the camera away". I guess some folks are dumb. For those that have never been employed by a large corporation, you have no idea what one of these contracts can be like. More and more companies are scouring the web, looking for posts on blogs or newsgroups where people talk about their jobs. And more often, they don't want you talking about your job AT ALL, not just negative stuff, as even the most innocent comment can be misinterpreted by a customer or client, and then all sorts of hell breaks loose. It's a good idea these days to think twice about performing any act that might reflect badly on your employer, even if you think it's all in "innocent fun" or whatever, or you don't think anyone is watching. I've had to sign all sorts of lenghty documents over the years (some really crazy ones when I was doing government consulting). Some folks really need to use more common sense... dt -

I can't imagine riding it once backwards, let alone 13 hours. Oh well, spinal surgeons in the LA area will be busy the next few weeks. HELL YES!!!! dt
