Geauga Lake Discussion Thread
Meteornotes replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Not true, I was totally in agreement with you on this. I remember the discussion about this at another place. I felt at the time when they bought the park it was not because they had any desire to run it, but to gut the place for cheap quick attractions for their other parks, and then just shut the place down, as it is far too close to their flagship park. It just took them a lot longer to get around to this than I thought they would. I guess buying 25,000 trashcans a year takes up more time than I thought. Anyway, I agreed with you, as more often than not, you're right about this stuff. I never got this credit, as it was broken every time I was at SFO or whatever the weekly name for the park was. I guess I'll get it at some other park now. Not that I'm overly concerned with it or anything, as the other rides of this type I've been on were just OK. Oh well... dt -
Cruising with Theme Park Review!
Meteornotes replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think I almost injured myself laughing at this update. Joey's noise was amazing! I think there needs to be a Robb, Joe & Joey TV show, it would be endless entertainment. dt -

Cruising with Theme Park Review!
Meteornotes replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Have fun! Just remember that if you're attacked by sharks, Joe would likely make excellent shark bait. And if you're attacked by giant sea creatures, Elissa should know what to do, as she watches just as many lame Sci-Fi channel original movies as me... dt -
^See, that's the thing. I was SO excited to finally ride X at Thorpe, but was totally disappointed. I really wanted it to be dumb fun, but it just didn't quite achieve the awesomeness of something like Dinosaur. I sort of remember someone mentioning they made some changes to X, so perhaps that angered the gods or something and they decreed that X shall no longer have its awesome power, and will instead just be a ride in the dark. Ah well... dt

I still want video of that Mario guy singing... dt -
Jahan, you did nothing wrong. Gamestop/EB management is the absolute worst. They have an almost impossible time recruiting anyone to work at these places. The only thing they care about is getting you to pre-order new games or ripping you off on the used ones they sell (most of the profit in these stores comes from the used games they buy for pennies on the dollar, and resell for massive profits). You could have magically produced Elissa via the magic of teleportation, and the guy probably would have still found a way to ignore you. dt

You people are not getting why Dinosaur is awesome. It's not because it's good, it's because it gets dumber every time you ride it! I don't know how they managed to design a ride that achieves this effect, but every time I'm at AK I must ride this travesty to see if it makes me laugh even more than the last time, and it has never failed me. I'm not sure how the stars aligned themselves to give this craptacular attraction the amazing power it has, but I will not question the gods, and instead prepare myself for a few minutes of indoor dark comedy the next time I'm in Orlando! After seeing Control-Alt-Deceased, I can safely say that I now know what the entertaiment in Hell is going to be like. Easily the worst show I've ever seen, it made the previous owner of that title (The Road Show at SFA) look like Citizen Kane. I've really been enjoying these TRs. Though I can't believe you didn't get your spine shattered on Gwazi. Then again, I guess if you ride Psyclone and Colossus on a regular basis, Gwazi might not seem so bad! dt

Thanks for the photos. Did you spot any odd food at the show? Knoebel's always seems to add the strangest stuff at the show to their menu the next year... dt

The "Robb Report" Photoshop Contest!

I voted. Great contest with lots of good entries. I think the guy that came up with the contest idea should win something, though, as he's all awesome and stuff... dt -
This is why you rule. Cool photos. Looking forward to the next installment. dt

I enjoy it. I thought the season finale last year was a HORRIBLE mis-step, but they've redeemed themselves with the shows this season. I don't think the show is as good as it was the first year and a half, but it does continue to entertain. I honestly didn't watch it for awhile, as all I remember about the old show was a kid and a robot dog (I can't remember if the dog talked or not, which would potentially make it even more horrible). Anyway, when Sci-Fi ran a marathon of them, I recorded them all to the DVR and saved them for when Mary was away on a trip. I sat down one day to watch one at lunch time, and found myself quickly addicted. This is NOTHING like the old show, other than some similar character names and situations. It is very dark, often violent, and often a parallel of things going on in our world. And major characters occasionally die, which is always a good thing. Though there was at least one dumb TV save at one point last year, so occasionally the writers do resort to the standard TV playbook. For those that have not seen the show yet, I highly recommend renting the DVDs. The original minseries is kind of rough, but the first full season kicks an amazing amount of ass. dt

^Fo' Sho'! Our house is filled with Ikea stuff. Every piece of furniture in my office (two desks, two chairs, table, 7 bookshelves, TV stand) is from Ikea, and our CD shelves upstairs were also purchased there. There's an Ikea about 10 minutes from our house. There are also TWO Carrabba's within ten minutes of our place. I just like pointing that fact out to Elissa over and over... dt

Cypress Gardens Announcement on Nov. 9th
Meteornotes replied to IOA Freak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
For what they're spending on Starliner, could they not build a new quality GCI? That would make more sense to me. Sure, saving an old woodie might get you some marketing power, but it would have to be a coaster that has some sort of buzz about it. As I've said in the past, Starliner is NOT one of those coasters. Almost no one rode it at its old location, another park that went out of business. There are not a lot of people around that say "man, I wish I could ride the Starliner again!" or similar statements. I'm all for preservation and all, but it should make sense. If you're spending a lot of money to re-build a ride that had no redeeming qualities about it, wouldn't it make more sense to build a new ride, one that you could better use for marketing and getting the park's name out there? That seems like the better idea to me... dt -
^My rant is that you guys didn't write more notes... dt

Nah, more like Baja Fresh > Moe's > Qdoba > Trash Bin Behind WalMart > Taco Bell! I have not tried Chipotle yet, though there is one near Mary's office. One of my life goals is to never eat in a Taco Bell, and so far I'm still achieving that one. Unlike my other goal to walk around on the moon... dt

Cypress Gardens Announcement on Nov. 9th
Meteornotes replied to IOA Freak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
What's scary is that I think I actually have video of it! I'd have to search through a box of old tapes to make sure. I'll save that for a day when I'm really, really bored. Sort of the same sensation that I had while on the Starliner! Seriously, people were hardly knocking down the gates of Miracle Strip to ride this coaster, I refuse to see how it's going to generate any buzz for CG. As much as I don't like them, a Booster Bike would be PERFECT for CG. Or a Eurofighter, which if it's anything like the one at Oakwood, I'd make a trip back to ride. They have to do SOMETHING to get the non-locals to the park, as obviously the locals are not keeping the place afloat... dt -
