It totally depends on your diet and needs. The Disney parks are probably the best, especially if you go to one of the sit down places, as they will almost always work around your dietary restrictions. I've never had a problem at any park, except Six Flags America, where we could not find an open food stand that had water and/or diet soda. But that was only on one visit many years ago. I know what I can eat and not eat and can work around pretty much any situation. Obviously a park that has a lot of food choices beyond fast food are the best. dt

Are Coaster Enthusiasts too critical?
Meteornotes replied to stricklandCC's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sorry, if I'm paying money for anything, I am going to comment on it. And I'm also sorry, but some rides are just brutally bad, and need to be pointed out. It costs a lot of money to go to parks, especially for a family. I think people posting their opinions about rides and parks is a good thing, especially if things are looked at with a fair and critical eye. Sure, someone complaining that WDW doesn't have any wood or hyper coasters, and therefore sucks, is not an opinion that anyone should take seriously. But someone posting about the trips they take, and offering up honest opinions about the rides and parks is a good thing. Just my dumb opinion, of course... dt -
Dell Digital DJ (30 Gig) and some crappy Sony headphones I bought at the Fry's in San Jose when my other ones died on the plane ride out there. They work fine, and since they were cheap, I won't care when they die and I have to toss them. As an aside, I cannot stand earbuds. I tried them when they came with my first player, and quickly gave up on them. Headphones are so much more comfortable. dt

She was on Stern a couple of times, with the best moment being when they wanted her to get on a scale, and she said, "I'm not getting on your stupid weigh machine". Good times. dt -
Great episode. Nice how Juliette and the others let Kate & Sawyer take the brainwashed guy back to their camp. I predict he will be trouble. dt

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

^100% Agreed. I liked Air WAY more than the Vekoma flyers. And AT pretty much blows away any CF park when it comes to theming and atmosphere. AT was one of the nicest parks I've ever visited. dt -
Can i suggest a new rule for the TOS? All topics must include Kidtums in some way! For example: Photo TR WDW, Kidtums is gonna love the Magic Kingdom. Cedar Point announces Waterhawk, the first 600 ft. aquatrax looping coaster! Kidtums should be tall enough by 2019! Ron "But then again maybe not, it might not be as much fun without Barry around" Patton Post Of The Month. And perhaps the year. dt

New coaster webcomic
Meteornotes replied to Edwardo's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You should have had the guy asking about the gravy buffet. Remember, when discussing coaster enthusiasts, gravy always equals comedy. Let's remember a very important lesson, people: if you put things up on the magical interweb, other people might see it. And they might comment on it. And they might not like it. It's not like mom's refrigerator, where any piece of hack crap you threw together will be displayed like it's a long lost work of Picasso, and you'll get a pat on the head and some extra cookies. Nope, out here in this cold harsh realm of existence known as Reality, you will be subject to criticism, commentary, and often just plain old insults. How you deal with it, learn from it, and grow as a result is up to you, but the first lesson should always be whining will not make the situation any better, or make your art/music/writing/sculpture/photos of your coaster screw collection any better. And while it's a bit off topic, here's some free advice. As someone that makes a living from writing (and in the past from animation and music production), I can say that two most important lessons you will ever learn if you desire to profit from creativity are: - Don't attach ego to your projects - Make sure they spell your name right on the check, and cash it right away, especially when dealing with some of Hollywood's more, um, "dishonest" production companies. As long as you're making the person happy that is signing the checks, you're doing the right thing. Here endith the lesson... dt -
New coaster webcomic
Meteornotes replied to Edwardo's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If the comics contained even the slightest display of artistic talent, and the humor demonstrated even a slight understanding of comedy, perhaps these might slightly amuse. Which they don't. As it stands now, my cat could create better entertainment by strategically arranging his leftover food. dt -

Boo. Lost Continent is great. This idea seems not so great. And like others have said, by the time this is done, Potter mania will pretty much be at an end. It seems like going with a theme not based on some pop culture idea would be something that you'd get a lot more mileage out of. Re-doing Sinbad and Poseidon are not bad ideas. But giving them a Potter makeover is just going to make them look pretty stale a few years down the road. Of course, perhaps this will lead to a re-theming of the Mythos menu. Anyone know if tomato & mozzarella salad was consumed at any point in the Potter books? That might be a way to get it back on the menu... dt

Coasters after childbirth
Meteornotes replied to Marko's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
After my divorce years ago, I turned to online sites to find dates. I made no secret of my enjoyment of coasters, or the other things that entertain me (non-radio music and going to shows). I didn't have much trouble finding dates. None were turned off by the coaster/park thing, and the few that I went out with more than a few times made it to at least one park with me. The two serious relationships I had were both with women that thought parks were "ok" and hadn't been to one in years. Both ended up going on trips with me, and I eventually married one of them. I don't think I'd go so far to say Mary is an "enthusiast", but she does enjoy parks and enjoys going on trips. Hell, most of her credits are non-US ones. I think the main thing is that I didn't make a huge deal out of it at the beginning, and I don't act like an ACEr. Coasters are not my whole life, I have a lot of different interests, and can usually find something in common with someone so we could spend time together and find out if things were worth pursuing. I see similar complaints from guys on music boards I read ("I can't find a woman that will go to metal shows with me"), and I think a lot of time it's the same thing, they come on too strong with their particular obsession, and scare potential dates off. Often it's all in the presentation. I've often said that online dating is not that much different from using online sites to find a job. You're going to have to put a fair amount of effort in, especially if you're trying to date women under 30, as most of them only put up ads as a joke, or just in case Brad Pitt suddenly decides he's tired of banging A-list Hollywood starlets and suddenly wants a "normal" chick from New Jersey or whatever (in other words, they are deluded). Maybe my success came from the fact that I was willing to date women around my age (40), as a lot of guys around that age suddenly decide they really need a 20 year old. In any case, I tell you to stick with it, perhaps look outside of your ideal "type", and don't be afraid to go on a lot of first dates. Unless it ends in some sort of inprisonment, it has to be better then staying at home and watching TV. As far as the whole "women are afraid of coasters" thing, I do think that some segments of our society might be conditioned to not ride as they're not supposed to do "dangerous" things. I think that might only be true for older generations, though, as I think the barriers as what is "acceptable" behavior for guys and girls continues to blur. I really don't think childbirth has anything to do with it, but I suppose some might use it as an excuse. All of this is just my dumb opinion, of course... dt -

^^Too bad you're one of the people that sees the "rainbow" on a DLP, as they are nice sets. I'd still take a look at the non-DLP Mitsubishi sets, as I still think their picture quality blows everyone else away. Of course, your eyes should be the final judge. For those with an interest in HDTV and/or home theater, I highly recommend the AVS Forum. There's a topic there for pretty much every TV and other piece of gear in existence, and the place is packed with TV/Home Theater professionals. Very educational site for this topic. dt

Honestly, if you're going to over 100 inches, you're better off with a screen and a HD projector. Most houses don't have a room where you can view something like this at a decent angle anyway. Unless you build a dedicated theater room (which is something we're planning on doing in the future). 55" Mitsubishi HDTV here. dt

Because it delivers better airtime and a better ride than any other steel coaster I have ever been on. Because the setting is unique, and it is in a nice park. Whipping around in the trees on this ride is an amazing experience, and I can't wait to visit again. EGF is only second to Balder when I compare every coaster I've ever been on. That's saying something, at least to me. dt
