  1. And not just adding new big coasters to their parks but also buying new parks almost every year. It wasn't remotely sustainable. In 1999, Six Flags added 17 new coasters chain-wide, including three going to SFA and SFGAdv apiece and two to SFFT. In 2000, Six Flags added 16 new coasters, including four (!!!) to SFO, three to SFNE, and two each to SFMW and SFM. In 2001, Six Flags added 11 new coasters (not counting the Goliath Jr re-theme at SFMM and counting X as 2001 as it soft opened late in 2001 and officially opened in very early 2002). SFGAm, SFMM, and SFOT all got two coasters apiece. I can figure out why Six Flags was infamous for downtime in the 2000s. Too many coasters and not enough maintenance staff to take care of them.
  2. No, because it's asinine. I agree with how asinine that policy is!
  3. I have a recommendation to make the whole FFBFWMAG process easier for guests: Put all of your stuff in a fanny pack so you only have one thing to put into/take out of the FFBFWMAG. I do feel that it is overkill to have metal detectors at every major coaster especially since there are metal detectors at the entrances to CityWalk. Do the other Florida parks have metal detectors at the entrances of queue lines?
  4. Phantom's Revenge Universal Studios Japan?
  5. My favorite (by default) would be Zach's Zoomer at Michigan's Adventure as it's the only sub-75' woodie I've ridden
  6. Hard Rock/Freestyle was done in (at least in part) by a bad location and likely would have done better if it were near a major theme park-less metro area. In the late 1990s-early 2000s, Six Flags was overexpanding way too quickly. It seems like parks were getting big new coasters every year or every other year with some parks getting two coasters in one year.
  7. Looks like it will be a rebuilding year in Detroit, at least when it comes to the bullpen. I haven't seen any ST games, but from what I've read on Twitter, some bullpen arms have been serving up meatballs. Their exhibition record is 3-9 (with six straight losses)
  8. Not sure about Arrow doing a Japanese coaster just prior to Magnum, but Togo did open Bandit (167 feet tall and over 5,000 feet long) in the spring of 1988. However, Bandit and Magnum don't have much in common besides both being tall and long
  9. What are you talking about??? The ride is almost entirely based on the screen that you watch. Have you ridden it? They literally put you in a room to sit down and watch a TV screen and the ONLY THING to look at in the room is the TV screen! Considering that it's probably one of the most ridden, most popular, not to mention longest attractions in the park, I would absolutely consider it a "screen based attraction." I have ridden it. Several times in fact! However, no 3D glasses necessary!
  10. Planet Coaster
  11. Viper and Eagle are my #2 and #3 woodies respectively. Remarkable because I haven't ridden them since 2005, not really that remarkable because I've only ridden seven woodies (at three parks)
  12. You'd be surprised. I've actually heard this more and more lately from the casual visitor. Especially when the screen based rides seem to be taking over. How many are there now? 1. Kong 2. Fallon 3. Gringotts 4. Forbidden Journey 5. Spider-Man 6. Transformers 7. Hogwart's Express 8. Despicable Me 9. Shrek 10. Simpsons 11. Terminator 12. Fast and the Furious (2018) Did I miss any? I wouldn't consider Hogwarts Express to be a true screen-based ride as (a) it is a transport ride and (b) no 3D glasses required. It also seems like almost every Universal ride either requires 3D glasses and/or storing stuff in a fluffy, fluffy bunny filled with medicine and goo.
  13. Cedar Point last year. When was the last time you were denied a credit?
  14. Flight of Fear
  15. Referring to single train ops, that time of year is not really peak season. I remember LR opening just as one of the European coaster groups (not sure if ECC or RCCGB) rolled into Dollywood in June.
  16. You have described the city of Sandusky to a T, especially if you come in via OH 4 and 1st St (there are parts of 1st St that have seen better days). It's not nearly as bad as the worst parts of Detroit, Flint, or Chicago (I don't think violent crime is a major issue in Sandusky)
  17. Probably not, but I'll be at Cedar Point at least once this upcoming season. Do you plan on going to a Six Flags park this year?
  18. GateKeeper at Cedar Point RMC wooden coaster with a lift hill
  19. Never, unfortunately. When was the last time you ate at McDonalds?
  20. Diamond Rio (the band formed at Opryland)
  21. April 28th, and 30th are my park days! I took the drive into consideration. . . My thought was to get to Knoebels at open, stay till noon - 1ish, and then head to SFA for the evening. I don't mind the 3 hour drive. Especially since SFA is only 30 minutes from the hotel. It would depend on how early Knoebels opens and how late SFA remains open
  22. What weekend are you going? Knoebels and SFA would NOT be doable on the same day. Those parks are a solid three hours apart (according to Google Maps).
