Kennywood's cycle is decently lengthy; I know it is longer than SkyHawk but I'm not sure about the other CF swings.

Cool Kingda Ka Motor Pics!
saxman47 replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Intamin doesn't make the motors, in fact, as was posted earlier, Intamin doesn't design each and every part of the launch system. They basically bring everything together in the end, but the individual components are not made by intamin. -

^ It actually doesn't get much louder when the coaster launches, but it is loud basically all the time. The motors run in between launches to compress the nitrogen-filled accumulator tanks, and when it launches, the nitrogen is released and forces hydraulic fluid out to turn the huge cable spool. Check out one of the TPR video's for Stealth, they have a shot of the motor room during a launch! Seems to sound just like it does from the outside, only much cooler I would assume! -

Has anyone ridden both X and Eejanaika?
saxman47 replied to ebl's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My exact thoughts after getting off X the first time.....I literally didn't know what had just happened I'm not sure how high the re-rideablity factor is, but it's definately a crazy coaster and, imho, probably the most revolutionary concept to hit the industry in a LONG time. -
Just wondering something

speaking of odd booster bike pictures, check out this kid in the second-to-last row! I don't know if he's just really tired, or maybe he couldn't live with himself knowing he willingly got on a Vekoma -
How Rollercoasters are Mathmatically Modeled?
saxman47 replied to Dane's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Computer programs are used to design the ride as you mentioned, but what the computer is doing behind the scenes is using differential calculus and geometry to make all those calculations that would take us a lot longer to do by hand. And just think, somebody had to write the program -

Wiggles World
saxman47 replied to savemagicmountain's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
EXACTLY Gadv has plenty of kid rides, and plenty of huge coasters, but there is nothing for the "in-betweeners". For kids lets say from 5-12 there is absolutely nothing for them to do, except maybe ride mine train or teacups lol. I'm glad they're getting a new area, but please, bring us FLATS or FAMILY attractions!! -
Umm, i can guarantee that El Toro never rolled back down 3/4 of the lift and then re-engaged.....give me a break. The ride frequently stops at the top of the lift hill, and when the cable lift starts going again the train rolls back about 6 inches.....which scares a lot of riders but my god, talk about exaggeration.

What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?

GASM at SF Great Adventure on Sept. 23 it feels so long ago -
I've always wondered, how do these "robust" individuals manage to ride many of the new intamin rides?? I've seen normal-sized people have trouble on MF!!

as was said above, floater airtime is when you are experiencing ~0 g's, meaning you feel weightless and your butt "floats" out of the seat. Think: B&M Hypers Ejector airtime is when you actualy leave your seat forcefully and the restraint is keeping you in the train, otherwise you would be "ejected" out of your seat completely. Think: Intamin Hypers and Pre-Fab Woodies

The 2006 Six Flags Agenda
saxman47 replied to ParkTrips's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I agree that changes were made in the beginning of the season, and I must say opening day at SFGadv was the best theme park experience I've ever had. I really thought that Shapiro had managed to turn the park around in the short time he was with the company. However, like others have said, about midway through the season the park had regressed back to "the same old Six Flags". I'm just afraid that with all this talk of "the NEW six flags!", people who visited the park later in the season will see the same old stuff. It's not like next year Shapiro can say....."Come see the NEW six flags....we really mean it this time! I swear!" Those customers might be lost for a while. -
The 28th will be PACKED unless the weather is crappy, so hope for a little rain And yoshifan, definately go in April if you can, it is the absolute best time in the park of season. I was there opening day this year and it was the best time I've ever had, all lines were extremely short and operations were good too. Anyway good luck with the trip! If its that packed make sure to get there before opening and get a QBot if your finances allow

I don't know why, but some B&M's have it and some don't. I noticed a lot of vibration on Scream and Batman:TDK, but Medusa East is still smooth as glass even though it is the oldest floorless. I have heard that Hydra is also very rough (for a B&M).

Running one train...
saxman47 replied to jamessanders's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Nitro at SFgadv makes good use of three train operation (when they actually decide to use all 3). They actually had an excellent crew on Nitro this year, and when running 3 trains it would eat through lines like nothing I've ever seen. Basically as soon as one train was off the lift, the next rolled out of the station within 10 seconds. This is a long ride so going from 2 to 3 train operation makes a HUGE difference. I could see for shorter rides that the difference may not be as noticeable, but even if you could dispatch each train 10 or 15 seconds quicker, it adds up quickly. -

Intamin Rockets down?
saxman47 replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
yeah from what I've heard KK was running all night friday till 1am, then mysteriously sat and sun it was closed all day with no signs of any activity. They even closed off the whole Golden Kingdom area, which is not good. anyway I hope it is up and running by the 23rd because I'll be at the park and I finally convinced my dad to come along and ride El Toro and pkdcoaster I'm not sure if you've been to the park this year yet, but dare I say you may have a new favorite woody Make sure to take some good video, your 1999/2001 gadv video is one of my favorites!! -
