  1. I think MF is most definitely overrated. I have many friends who claim it is the bets coaster they have ever been on, and it seems that many enthusiasts rank it very highly as well. When I rode it I couldn't believe what had just happened....I didn't think it was that special at all. I gave it another try, but came to the same conclusion. Call me crazy, but give me Maverick or Magnum anyday over MF. To each his own, I suppose.
  2. Time does make a difference. My first visit to Great Adventure was in 1995, and I thought it was a dump. My second visit was this year, and I think they now have the most solid coaster collection I've ever seen. And the park is in pretty damn good shape all things considered. However, when you try to tell me that attending two parks in the same calendar year isn't valid, that's when I call bull$#!%. Things don't change that fast. And when you're talking two parks that are on opposite coasts, riding them in the same year is about as good of a comparison as most people are going to get. I agree. I went to both Gadv and MM within about 3 weeks of eachother back in 2005, and honestly, they were both in pretty sad shape. At MM the lines werent bad and I rode almost everything there in one day, but the place was dirty and just basically looked neglected. My visit to Gadv wasn't much better, since I only got on 3 rides all day. Gadv was more visually appealing and was clean, etc, but the horrendous operations killed my fun. Having said that, I can honestly say that Great Adventure is a different park now then it was 2 years ago. Operations have been excellent, the landscaping is beautiful, and they have really been turning the place around. I can't compare the "new" Gadv to MM since I haven't been back since Shapiro has taken over. I think visiting both in the same year is a valid comparison though, since, as you said, things don't change overnight. I must say though, in terms of a "flagship park", Gadv has been getting a lot more love in recent years from corporate than any other Six Flags park.
  3. My guess would be that they are holding off on S:TE since they're not sure how many more seasons it will be around. It would be a pretty big waste of money to paint it and tear it down 2 or 3 years later. This is just my personal thinking, I'm not saying it's going anywhere for sure.
  4. yup, and they used that logo for steel force instead a year later
  5. ^ well now that's two strikes for misspelling Claude's last name! One more and they're gonna come for you
  6. I agree. I really can't understand how the company was worth twice as much 5 years ago when management clearly had no direction, the parks weren't in great shape, and innefficiency was running rampant. Now that a management team is in place who actually have a PLAN, why is the stock so low? I own quite and bit and am down a lotttttttt of money in the past 6 months, so let's hope that investors start putting a little more faith in this company for 2008.
  7. The ride is just too expensive for anything but the largest of amusement parks. Millenium Force is a very highly-rated ride as well, yet, no one in the entire world has ever built another intamin giga. And MF doesn't have half of the maintenance issues that X has...... IF many of maintenance concerns are worked out with this new rehab, the only parks in the U.S. that I could ever see getting an S&S/Arrow 4D would be Great Adventure or Cedar Point. I don't think it's likely though.
  8. ^somebody wake up on the wrong side of the bed today or what? If you don't like it, don't go.
  9. Nice TR, even though it rained atleast you got in plenty of rides! I was there on Saturday and it was packed! There were a lot of little kids though, so the lines for the coasters weren't terrible, most being ~45 minutes. Also, I never saw Thunder win either
  10. I personally think the music fit the video perfectly, nice job! and btw, watching this brings a tear to my eye......Chiller was always a favorite of mine. So unique, so intense...........and that roar I'm just sad that I didn't get to ride Batman during those couple weeks in 2006 when it operated. I think it was open for Coasters after Dark (or Coaster Celebration?) which I couldn't attend, so I went the very next day and it was closed again Little did I know that would be my last chance......
  11. I know this is all subjective, but for a first-time visitor I wouldn't say that X is one of the worst rides at MM. It is an absolutely crazy experience that you have to do atleast once. After that, you can decide if it's worth the wait again but personally I loved it.
  12. Magnum is my personal favorite, although one the the coasters I really want to ride is Tennessee Tornado since I have heard very good things about it.
  13. obviously, because it is at cedar point, it must be the best Millennium force has had way more lift problems than your average coaster. Didn't they need to replace the entire motor like twice in recent years? I can't remember the last time I saw a B&M hyper down because of lift problems, and they use a chain, don't they
  14. wow those are really great pictures, nice TR! I reeeaaalllly need to get back to Gadv before the season is over......it's been too long!
  15. sounds like an awesome time, I had a day like that back in July when it was supposed to rain all day but didn't, and nobody showed up. Nothing better in this world than walking on to El Toro
  16. I agree with everyone about hitting up Lake Compounce if you can, even if it's only for a few hours. Boulder Dash alone is worth the trip, it really blew me away.
  17. Even if the flash pass isn't available online you can still buy it when you get to the park. Try and get there early and they actually let you buy it before the park opens. As for the Friday deal, I'm pretty sure the flash pass is the same price not matter what. I'd go for the Gold FP on both Saturday and Sunday if you can afford it. Usually Fridays arent as bad crowd-wise. Hope you have a successful trip!
  18. This sounds like a good thing for SFMM I know at SFGadv the new GM Mark Kane did wonders for the park this year. He really did make a huge difference, so hopefully MM is in for some improvement as well.
  19. ^ not necessarily Apollo's Chariot continues straight, but has a pre-drop
  20. I just visited CP for the first time last week, and honestly, I agree with his Millennium Force review 100%. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I really cannot imagine how this is anyone's #1 coaster. It was mediocre at best also, I was expecting Mantis to be a big piece of crap the way everyone talks about it, but I really liked it! If you lean with the turns I found it to be a lot of fun
  21. I think it is a valid question, and I would definately say go for it. The rain tends to keep away some of the crowds and if it is only a passing thunderstorm the rides should open back up quickly. Some of my best days ever at GADV have been on iffy weather days.
  22. yes, less so on B&M's since they have shorter trains. If you sit in the middle the loop will be less "intense" but you may have some hang-time near the top. In the front or back you will feel more postive g's at either the entry or exit of the loop. On arrow loopers especially, if you sit in the back, you feel yourself get pulled through the loop and don't really notice you are upside down at all.
  23. I'm going monday and tuesday for the first time in my life. I hope the weather holds out
  24. I believe they only sell a certain percentage online, so if you get to the park early I am almost positive you can still get one. Get there at opening and you should probably be able to get gold if you wish.
  25. umm....Chiller is not being painted. The batman side was painted dark blue a few years ago but still looks new since that side hardly ran at all since that time. Batman side has been closed this whole season because Robin is currently using its train. Gadv is currently in the process of reducing Robin's train to 4 cars so that the last car may be added to the 3 undamaged cars from last years accident that will now be used for batman. Hopefully both sides will be open in a few weeks.
