  1. For me it would be Steel Phantom and Drachenfire. Especially Steel Phantom, such a fun Arrow looper when it opened.
  2. I'm surprised nobody has flown a drone over it yet. Seriously though, trespassing is really crossing the line. People should know better.
  3. Their skyride is pretty epic and scary as hell. Unfortunately I was unable to get on the Knoebels sky ride when we visited in September. I did get to go on the one at Lake Compounce and that one was definitely scary. Really enjoyed the view though.
  4. , Cedar Fair did not kill Geauga Lake That's a matter of opinion one way or the other. People will debate that for decades to come. You can definitely say that Cedar Fair had no intention of helping the park thrive. Their actions back up that statement. In order for the park to thrive, they would of have to significantly reduce operating costs while still maintaining attendance. So essentially, remove rides but somehow still get people to attend. The park was doomed as soon as SF added 4 coasters in 5 years with no plan of how to manage the park and for no reason other than to "compete" with CP. It was probably the dirtiest, worst managed, poorly up kept parks in the country. I believe the Geauga expansion by SF is probably one of the dumbest business decisions in the industry, possibly ever. The additions combined with the poor operations drove away the local market for good and the additions were never strong enough to draw people away from CP. Remember, in the years SF owned Geauga, CP added Mantis, Millennium Force, WT, and Top Thrill. Absolutely no way a park could compete with that in a similar market. If the park maintained its 80's and early 90's size and growth, it might still be around today. However, I believe the park eventually would have been marginalized by CP and Kennywood if it stayed small and not been operated with extreme care. Agree!! Just keep in mind there's much more to that as well. Pumping $$$ to add the rides and coasters was a risk. But it had potential. I'm inclined to think that the Sea World purchase and subsequent mega park is what created the biggest issue for both Six Flags AND Cedar Fair. The mega park was attractive and posed a threat to Cedar Point. Cedar Fair had no choice but to act. But then also go out and drop over $1B for the Paramount parks really dug Cedar Fair a hole financially. There's no way that makes sense unless they had a master plan for the Six Flags purchase. So to me, it was all a well planned demise for Geauga Lake.

  6. I say 2018. I think the project is much larger than just the Mean Streak conversion. They aren't going to want people roaming back there as work is being done. I'm guessing that they'll add a dark ride back there as well as part of the transformation. Maybe relocate the train station too.
  7. Those steel legers look like take-offs from the existing ride. They are similar to what is still on ride today under the station transfer track.
  8. It's usually Famous Daves or Pinks for me. Just love a good hotdog at Pinks.
  9. The more I think about this, the more I see the potential for something truly special. Especially considering the uniqueness of the location. 1. Ravine presents an opportunity to maximize the use of terrain. Kennywoods existing coasters are great examples. A woodie or hybrid can incorporate inspiration from other coasters such as Ravine Flyer II or Boulder Dash. 2. The proposed area is mostly untouched aside from the existing structures. I expect this coaster could be really fun at night due to the fact that minimal lighting is available. Those who have ridden Phantom at night know what the 2nd drop into pitch black is like. 3. If it is an RMC their engineering could truly set this one apart. The loop on Goliath for example or the ejector elements on Wicked Cyclone. They could even do something inside that building from the old railroad. 4. This could potentially have the tallest drop on a wooden coaster depending on how they use the ravine. If Harry Henninger was involved, I would almost count on it. He had amazing vision for projects like this.
  10. I was wondering the same thing. The station is located awfully far from any area of the park that sees a lot of traffic. Guess there's just going to be a really long queue and exit like the Phantom has. Could also set up the other rumor of a coaster along the back of the park where the train is today.
  11. This makes me wonder what they have planned for that ride entrance. If you look at that topology map it shows the new building being built back in the corner behind the Log Jammer. Currently that is all wooded area with some pavilions and materials storage. It's also where the train turnaround takes place. It's been the rumored location for a new coaster. Will be great to see it become reality. Great way to add a feature attraction to the park that doesn't have much free space. Its also worth noting that 2018 is the 50th anniversary for the Thunderbolt as well as the parks 120th . Could be a great way to celebrate.
  12. I use Twitter daily but I'm not an actively tweeting. I follow several users, companies, etc.
  13. Beer isn't very popular there. The price is high considering it's only a 12oz cup with 2 drink limit. They usually have security around that area which is a good thing to deter underage drinking. There's a so a decent but expensive BBQ stand next to it. Seems to me that the beer would sell better in the Parkside Cafe but it would be too difficult to monitor that area.
  14. Did they still have the VR on Iron Dragon? I got to try it 2 weeks ago and really enjoyed it. When I was there, just about every coaster experienced some delay while we were in line. Valravn was down for 2.5 hours and TTD had a failed launch where the train stopped half way down the catapult section.
  15. I would go with BGW. All things considered (coasters, flats, shows, food, theming, etc.) I think it's a slightly better park. Nothing against Hershey, it's a really nice park too. I was there last month with the family and had a great time. If you're family is interested in the chocolate museum next door that might be the deciding factor.
  16. Ride Hades 360 last week. Great ride!
  17. Rollo Coaster has been operating without a restraint since it opened 75 years ago. Despite the changes in law, the state never required the park to install restraints. And with that kind of track record, it's not even something I'd raise questions over. You can watch YouTube video of the ride which is relatively tame. A 3 yr old, however, needs to be with a responsible rider since they lack the ability to properly handle themselves on a coaster. Most parents place their arm around their kids. I'm not sure this boys brother thought to do the same.
  18. Went to the park today for the first time. Have to say that this is probably the nicest Six Flags park that I've been to so far. From the cleanliness to the theming and some fantastic rides, it was a lot of fun.
  19. It will be interesting to see how this goes. I personally think there will be a chop and retracking by RMC. Mean Streak has a fun layout already. Imagine twisting and diving through that big wooden structure.
  20. I've ridden Leap the Dips as well. Fun piece of history! Skyliner wasn't all that bad either. Lakemont isn't much but it's no worse than some other parks such as Conneaut. I thought Lakemont had a decent water park for the kids as well.
  21. You picked a good day to go. Weather was nice and the crowd was decent. Other than the Pirate being down, everything was operating and lines were short. The park isn't big but it's got something for everyone. Including a water park about 3 miles away. As for Primanti's, it's a good sandwich and always recommended to try at least once. One thing visitors don't realize is that Pittsburgh had a lot of good food spots. Primanti's just gets the most attention.
  22. They modified Auto Race a year or two ago. Don't know the specifics but I seem to recall it was needed due to regulations. The old version was faster but lacked controls on the circuit to handle multiple cars running at the same time. The new version is slower and there are now multiple sensors throughout to stop cars as needed. Phantom had some brake work done not long ago. The big change was to the station brakes which I believe also corrected an issue with trains stalling on the lift hill. As part of the work, the trim brake was adjusted as well. Some say they don't notice it but it's definitely there. I don't know if it's true but I heard the new phantom bodies increased the speed by a couple mph which is why the trim was adjusted.
  23. Good idea hitting up th Safari early if you plan to ride. It's an hour wait sometimes more and the ride itself is pretty long. Can easily eat up 2+ hours of your day.
  24. Did you ride it this season? They screwed up the seat belts, so tons of fat people are able to get the lap bar down on the test seat with no problem, but then on the actual ride they can't get the seat belts buckled. Thankfully I could get on, but they're pretty tight and uncomfortable. I rode it last week and I'm a 38. Had no issues at all and also had quite a bit of belt left despite reading reports that the seat belts were very short. It's how you carry the weight. Yep, exactly! I'm not skinny by any means. 5' 11" and 220lbs. I fit in the test seat just fine with room to spare. The seat belt on the ride wasn't the same length. Guess it's time for a diet. Lol And yes, 2 days at SF Great Adventure. Might go back to America for the fireworks tomorrow though weather permitting.
