Kennywood (KW) Discussion Thread
KPfan replied to DenDen's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Glad to see some enthusiasm for the park. Living 20 minutes away is great but loses some excitement after average 15 trips to the park each year. My advice is to visit the park with the expectation of a traditional, smaller park. It's not cedar point or Hershey. But it has its own uniqueness and charm that people often overlook. Oh, and stay past dark if possible. The park looks even better lit up at night. And phantom is even better. -

Yes, it's fairly forgiving. Even when I hit my peak weight of 345 I still was able to get on quite a few rides. But obviously that doesn't necessarily mean I was very comfortable. You should be fine on Jack Rabbit. Racer does have a little seat divider with seat belt. Was a tight fit when I had 46-48in waist but I still fit. Thunderbolt has no seat divider but doesn't allow single riders. So plan accordingly. -

It depends on how you carry the weight. Like you said, Skyrocket restraint is similar to Tempesto but there are a couple of seats better for folks with longer legs. I believe they have a sign in the station with the information. As far as the other rides, SwingShot is purely lap restraint which may be an issue if they can't get enough clicks to light up the sensor. Aero and Widow are shoulder restraints and fairly forgiving. I rode aero back when I was 300+ with no issues except for having all the weight on my shoulders when upside-down. Widow is finicky but should be close depending on your build. -

From multiple sources, it's being reported that the park will begin work on a 2019 project start in late spring. I'm guessing they will bring back the Turnpike in place of the old Log Jammer ride. -

I was there on Saturday and it was crazy, but in a good way. Yes the lines were long, really long. But the crowd was amazing and we had a blast. Yesterday was a decent day despite the weather. Lines were much shorter but several rides were down due to the wind. Valravn opened up around 7p but the line was back to Chicky and Pete's with people waiting for the queue. -

Serious question, but could Intamin retrofit TTD with a LIM system? Or are there limitations with that design beyond the obvious power consumption.? -
Where Are You Going in 2018?

Only confirmed plans so far are a trip Dollywood, Cedar Point and Kennywood. We are kicking around the idea of returning to Orlando for Universal parks, Sea World and Busch Gardens Tampa again. Will depend on work and school schedules though. -

We stayed at Breakers and it was worth it. 3 adults and 2 kids. Having the Perkins, TGI Fridays and ice cream on site was convenient, as well as the arcade. Can't beat the quick access to the park too. -

Going to be visiting the park this weekend. Any good places nearby for local craft beers and food? Sent from my LG-H910 using Tapatalk -
Went to Dorney yesterday for the first time and had a great time. Parking lot was half full and most rides were a walk on. Was a bit frustrating that Demon Drop and Possessed were down but that's the way it goes sometimes. Really enjoyed Steel Force out of all the coasters. Definitely reridable. Back seat was amazing. Didn't care much for Soaring Timbers. Good family ride though! As for Lumberjack, it's similar to Kennywood's Aero 360 which fantastic. One of my favorite flat rides. Sent from my LG-H910 using Tapatalk -

No rides on Black Widow? That's another gem in the park. As far as Wawa vs. Sheet. I like Wawa coffee more but Sheetz has better food. I drove through a town in MD on Sunday and they had both.... Lucky! -
Funniest Ride Experiences

About 2 years ago, I had a girl throw up on me while riding black widow at Kennywood. Gross for sure, but when you're locked in and swinging what can you do? My son and I just laughed the rest of the ride and still joke about it when we ride it today. -

We typically look for local rentals rather than hotels. If you book at the right time you can rent a house for less than what the hotels charge. Quite a few places in Sandusky that are 10-15 minutes from the park. I love the convenience of Breakers but can't afford that every time we go. Lol -
I wouldn't pay that much either. I rode once and really enjoyed it but not enough to pay. On a side note, I was frustrated with the queue design. On the day we visited it was typical Virginia weather and the heat & humidity was crazy. There wasn't much airflow in parts of the queue and we were drenched. Lol

Volcano was open on Wednesday. I rode it twice. It's been open today if you plan to dodge rain showers. We rode it 3x today. -

Water Country is nice. I would recommend that over the water park at KD. And I agree, 2 days at KD are a bit much unless you have a family and take your time covering the park including kiddie land. -

PLEASE NO! I'm visiting next weekend for the first time as well. Come on Kings Dominion, you can do it! Someone reported that the ride was testing today so maybe there's hope! -

Supposedly Volcano is down for the remainder of the season. Can anyone confirm? Had been planning another visit next weekend.... -
I could easily name a dozen coasters but have to consider several factors. The biggest being age. I don't see too many seniors riding the stuff that I enjoy today. So I consideration of that point, I would choose longevity. I'd choose Racer at Kennywood. A unique woodie that I could ride into my golden years. Plus it'd be a great time with my kids and hopefully grandchildren someday.

They don't use the top lot much anymore. Even when they do, it seems that they prefer shuttles over the lift. -

I didn't think Vortex was terrible but it was definitely one and done. Same with Cyclone. Both rides could use some tlc for sure. Nighthawk was a different story. I actually enjoyed it and rode twice with my son. Better than Firehawk in my opinion.
