  1. Invadr was a fun ride but my vote would go to Thunderbolt at Kennywood with Cyclops at Mt. Olympus as my #2. For its age, Thunderbolt is surprisingly smooth which is a reflection of how well the park takes care of it.
  2. When I was there last Thursday it was listed as closed for the day. However, later that day we were in another part of the park and saw it testing. By the time we got there someone said that they heard a loud bang or explosion (their words, not mine) then the ride was down again for the rest of the day. Avalanche went down around noon and never restored operating. Went back Saturday and both rides were still down. Kinda bummed because we only manage to get to KD every 2-3 years and I didn't get my Volcano fix....
  3. I just had the Kings Brew while at Kings Dominion and it was pretty good. I would buy it again if given the chance. I also have had the Sweetwater and Troegs at Hershey last year and now try to buy them locally when available.
  4. It has its share of bad days. I wouldn't say it's worse than pitfall though. Sometimes it's just some person pulling on the harness at just the wrong time. Seems like that's a common occurrence. I'm curious to see if the new Wonder Woman ride at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom experiences any of the same issues.
  5. I think that's what they're trying to do. Keep in mind their location and typical visitors. They are trying to add new features that will generate revenue and keep a family feel. If anything I'd say these changes could help the build a more sustainable and profitable operation if all goes well.
  6. One thing that I'd like to see at KD is a nice sized family restaurant. Similar to the one in Carowinds near Nighthawk. That is a great option for families with the dining plan as there are several options to choose from. Makes it easier when you have 4 mouths to feed and everyone wants something different.
  7. Made it back to the park today but unfortunately Volcano and Avalanche were still down. While we were on the ferris wheel we noticed that more RMC track had been installed on Hurler. Have some pictures but not sure if it is OK to post.
  8. Made it to the park today. Aside from the heat and humidity we had a blast. My wife and I bought the deluxe pass for the food and wine festival. It turned out to be a great deal for us as we were able to sample many good foods, desserts and beers.
  9. Has volcano been down long? Noticed the sign saying it's closed today.
  10. When we went on Sunday we were able to ask for seating. However, yesterday we were assigned seats. I guess it depends on who is working and how busy they are.
  11. Just rode Fury 325 and loved it. Will be on Invadr in a few days though.
  12. Spent today at the park and really enjoyed it. Had the feel of a Paramount / Kings park which is a good thing to me. It wasn't very crowded so lines were short. We were able to make 2 laps around the park hitting most coasters at least once. Fury was never more than a 10 minute wait so we got 5 rides on that one. Really fun coaster.
  13. how long are you going for? (ie: how many days are you looking to get admission for) ? Just a single day, likely next Friday. Will have a total of 4 in my group. Hoping to get in on the food and drink festival too.
  14. I was just at Kennywood 10 days ago. There is no elevator section and the attraction is absolutely a lawsuit waiting to happen. You just walk in and the madness begins. There are no signs out front that we saw saying caution and the attraction is not for anyone but an extremely healthy person with full mobility and no issues with disorienting experiences. The floors vibrate, rock, tilt, shake, they have those rolling barrels with spinning spirals over walkways that you have to run across, and there are no signs until the very end that someone may have a seizure or struggle. If someone was in a walking boot, for example, they wouldn't be able to get across the multiple shaking floors because those things are seriously shaking. I'm prone to motion sickness and get easily disoriented so ended up doing half the darn thing with my hands over my eyes like racing horse blinker because my brain honestly did not know what planet I was on. That being said, the very last part was the best decorated area. The elevator stunt was removed when the whale returned last year. It was added many years ago during a prior refurb project. There is an employee at the entrance that should be advising guests as they enter. Someone incapable of using steps or navigating the layout should not be permitted to enter.
  15. I'm likely to be at the park in two weeks or so. Any good deals on discounted admissions? Best I've found is a AAA deal for $52 each.
  16. I'm visiting the park next weekend and looking for some good food spots. We should be arriving around dinner time on Saturday so we're looking for some ideas. A good BBQ and craft beer spot would be ideal.
  17. No update on the rumored coaster and no signs of work being done yet. Still early though, and considering all of this recent rain that ravine is probably a swamp.
  18. Glad to see more positive news. I never expect the park to become a huge draw but I do hope they can emerge from bankruptcy and remain profitable.
  19. Also, it's hard to really see everything going on but if you take a train ride and hop on Magnum you can see track all over the place. Even in the parking lot for the new water park. Also, not sure if anyone spotted it yet but the entrance and queue are being built.
  20. LOL, that's about right. The work is being done in a way that I almost hope the ride name doesn't change. Mean seems like a fitting word to describe how it looks and it's not even done yet.
  21. Bumm, as hoping to make it back this summer. Haven't been there since 2015. The park definitely needs some work though I thought the pool area was decent. Especially the little kids area.
  22. I enjoyed Disaster Transport. It would take that back over Cedar Creek Mine Ride any day. I do agree that it was an eyesore though.
  23. If you have a big appetite, hit the Midway Market. It's sort of like a smaller Golden Corral if you are familiar with that chain. Not the cheapest or best place to eat at CP but the selection is usually good. Plus it's air conditioned which is great for hot days after standing in lines for hours.
  24. Knoebels is good if you haven't been. Love that park. Kennywood is a great place considering it's location. You can can usually get around the park in a few hours but crowds can vary day to day. Sometimes we're there 2-3 and hit everything up and other days it can be 4-6 hours. It is worth a visit for sure. Great family park, especially with the kids. Good mix of flats, coasters and thrills.
  25. It's a good event. The park does a nice job with lighting and holiday theming. They usually have a bonfire outside of Noah's Ark and a Lionel train display inside the cafe. There is a limited selection of rides weather permitting. This year they converted the arcade into a gingerbread village display. Would definitely recommend checking out the park if you are in the area. I think they are running a bogo offer on admission during select days due to the cold weather.
