  1. Once again, it's Nitro, earlier this afternoon.
  2. Third visit to Holiday in the Park is now in the books. Was there from 1:30 til about 5pm today. It was COLD. The sun peaked out a few times but not for long and the temps stayed in the 40s and then dipped into the 30s (was 37 when we left) and it was mostly cloudy, and very windy at times. All coasters running, managed to get on almost everything at least once and a bunch of laps on Nitro. My last two trips to HITP were in the late afternoon and evening on much milder days so was nice to feel like we had the place to ourselves. When we first arrived went straight to Nitro and was a total walkon but they only had the first four rows open since it was crawling over the hills. Stayed seated for lap 2. Even though it was crawling they were still great rides. Got the coveted Poinsettia Peak credit which we walked right onto the back row had almost the entire train to ourselves. Stayed on for 2nd ride in same row. Then over for one lap on Batman and I'M FAT! Why can't I fit into these inverts anymore?! First Talon and now Batman. This was never a problem until recently. No walk of shame - kudos to the two hilarious ride ops who got a little workout squeezing me in there. Batman felt extremely fast compared to usual, wondering why. Great as always. Almost tried Dark Knight but actually had a line. After stopping to check ToteMay construction (just lots of footers, though the surrounding area seems to be taking shape somewhat), we went for Superman back row (walkon) and holy crap the whip through that pretzel loop never gets old. I was then convinced we should ride Green Lantern since no one else was and we almost went for the front but since they were running one train (as was Superman and Batman) we just jumped on row 2 in stead of waiting a cycle. Horrible horrible horrible. Green Lantern is horrible. First ride in almost two years and that's where that relationship ends. I will never ride it again. I tried the ride-with-your-head-sticking-forward "trick" some have suggested and sorry but that's bullsh*t I still got clocked multiple times on either side of my head. After the MCBR I have never wanted a coaster to end so badly. We were hungry and had some munchies at Nathans. Short wait, good service, food was great. Then back to Nitro for a couple more laps (now allowing riders in all rows, so both laps in the back). After our second of two laps the train dispatching after ours got stuck about 20 feet up the lift. Lots of gawking and pointing ensued. We shrugged and agreed we had good timing, snapped a pic, and decided it was finally waffle time. OMG people believe the hype. I got the "La Nutty" or whatever with nutella, hazelnuts, bananas, whipped cream and of course said yes when that smooth French broad asked in her sensual accent if I wanted the ice cream. Then, "would you like to try our delicious hot chocolate?". Hell yes. These women could have sold me anything. It was about 4:30 and getting dark so we snagged a bench near Johnny Rockets facing the big fancy tree and got to watch the entire show while I slowly enjoyed my life altering waffle and hot chocolate. It was now freezing, we rode everything we wanted and were able to enjoy a bit of the lights with the sun going down. It also felt like the crowds were starting to stream in so we just called it a day. Hoping to get back on Sunday for closing day, but even if I don't today was a great way to start a new year. I got a new phone so I have some better than usual pics to share lol. Nitro 4x Pointsettia Peak 2x Batman 1x Superman 1x Green Lantern 1x First stop Batman was hauling Oh but of course. Quiet early. I live for crowds like this. ToteMay Footers. Superman: Ultimate Ghost Town Six Flags: Ugly Overpriced Xmas Sweater Oh god no. Yum. Couple more laps. Note the ToteMay supports Train stuck on lift. "Oooo ahhh" said the onlookers. Happy New Years OMFG Laterz
  3. Parks near Coney by distance If you are going to be there in summer there is a bus that goes from NYC to Great Adventure. Its an hour and half ride or so but El Toro is worth it.
  4. See? Sometimes its just the perfect response. LOLz
  5. I'll be there tomorrow and Sunday. Say hi if you see me!
  6. How is this a quibble?! Skull Mountain should always be bleeding out of its eyes!!!! I think thats the only possible way they could make it even more ridiculously awesome!
  7. ^ Toro always *looks* small to me in person since its practically next to Ka, that is until I'm on the ride going around that turnaround up there and realize just how far down I am about to fall.
  8. You have no idea how many times I've had this internal conversation with myself. In fact, I thought those exact words at the corner store just two nights ago. #fatkidprobs
  9. So who's closing out the final weekend of the season IN JANUARY!?! I will most likely be there Friday and Sunday. Anyone in agreement that even tho sunny skies are predicted that it will be pretty quiet Friday? At least in the afternoon?? I mean its New Years Day - I'm thinking many hangovers and of course in Philly its the Mummers parade. I'm thinking/hoping it should be quiet. Looks like it was deserted today. I am so itching to get some good riding in and of course that coveted Pointsettia Peak credit LOLZ. And eat a damn waffle!!! Oh and in case you all forgot THE OFF SEASON IS LESS THAN 90 DAYS. CAN I GET AN AMEN? 90 FREAKING DAYS TIL WE RIDE THE BULL AGAIN!
  10. I love coasters but I've never been much of a themeing or logo type of person, but I love Toro's, and not even just because its a favorite ride of mine. I just love the logo, its so simple and effective. @Bert I love the Possessed logo too (see avatar <-). Coincidentally El Toro is the only ride specific t-shirt I own and its just the logo, none of that Six Flags "I like it rough" bs. Or taking selfies with it I love walking up to it and being greeted by it.
  11. Great Adventure for closing weekend... looks like Friday AND Sunday. Woot! Closing out the season in style.
  12. Whaddup with a POV of this thing? Dyin' over here.
  13. I didn't find WT rougher per say, it was just underwhelming after being a big fan of Possessed. Since WT is bigger and faster I was really looking forward to riding it but it was underwhelming. Sitting in the back on Possessed and going up the straight back spike (and then dropping) made a huge difference to me. Love Possessed to death, one of my "wish I had one in my backyard" coasters, WT sits WAY lower on my rankings. I think a lot of this has to do with the company the rides keep at their respective parks. Possessed is easily one of the better/smoother/more intense experiences at Dorney, while WT shares its park with Maverick, Millennium, Dragster, Raptor, Magnum, etc. After doing all that it was much easier to be let down by WT.
  14. ^ But just because there haven't been photos of vertical construction doesn't mean it hasn't taken place. They broke ground two months ago and began pouring footers. With all the freak warm temps I would think they'd have gotten a good bit done by now, might not be ready to show it off yet? The photos I posted of the trains were from weeks ago, I just missed them until this morning (along with everyone else apparently). If there was another reason for me to travel the 1.5 hours to Ocean City I'd go check it out for myself and get some photos but for now I'll continue harassing the park to post some more via their FB page.
  15. I'm sorry I'm really not trying to back seat moderate but don't we basically have this thread already?
  16. I think it's probably mine. So many great looking coasters opening in 2016 I likely will not ride due to location, but not this one. The closer it gets to opening the more hyped up I am getting to climb into this thing. Between this and Totemay (no I will not stop) S&S is dominating Jersey this year LOL
  17. Agreed 100%. The Borgata is the only place we will ever go and stay at in A.C. and its because its significantly nicer, cleaner, etc than any other hotel we've stepped foot in in A.C. And while we do like to gamble, the only time I go to A.C. is for shows (preferably at the Borgata). Also its hard to get excited about this when a really rad looking, brand new, first of its kind, S&S launcher is actually being built right at this moment just down the road.
  18. Look whats arrived at the Jersey Shore! (from Playlands FB page) What could that be? Oh look! We have trains! Oooooo Ahhhhhh
  19. Agree with all of this except everything you said about Possessed and that glorious holding brake. God I love that thing, probably way more than most around here. My answer is Ka. I hate the restraint, its a 'must do' ride but there is a such thing as too much/intense imo and Ka is it. The shoulder harness just kills me, literally I've had bruises. TTD is not as bad for me, it felt smoother and the lapbar makes an enormous difference for a tall rider like me. Also, doesn't this thread exist already (somewhere)? Because I'm having deja vu.
  20. ^ I noticed that w/ Ka too, the two times driving to HITP, its usually hard to see in summer. And then once you're in the lot, coasters in every direction. Also, I've posted this here probably in the Moreys thread but it deserves a post in this thread if it hasn't been.
  21. CP crushes every other park Ive been to, especially arriving for the first time at night. Honorable mentions are Great Adventure because its hidden til you get into the parking lot and then you're in a coaster oasis. And Morey's because their lighting packages are awesome.
  22. Its always been a tradition growing up (and now with the wifey) to open one gift the night before. Nino got a new bed and some catnip, which he is enjoying here. He also just loves laying under the tree. Merry Xmas everyone here at TPR!
  23. Apple Bomb @ Cape May Brewery
