  1. You already answered why they don't keep one around....it's INCREDIBLY expensive....and there's only one 4D coaster in the entire Six Flags chain...so they can't buy one to be ready anywhere it might be needed....and it's only broken once...so it's hard to justify the cost....ESPECIALLY since we don't know the reason why they chain broke in the first place...which could have been a lot of different reasons...that may never repeat on the new chain... just sayin. My god how do you write like that?
  2. High winds can also cause the cars to hang at an angle and in some cases (like ARM/Larson towers) it can prevent the car from detaching correctly.
  3. Do you know "who" says they need headrests to run backwards? I don't doubt you since our PTCs gained headrests when we started running backwards during haunt, I'm just curious why that is.
  4. But if you weren't fired, it would be a pretty hilarious job. Every sort of subtle non-hint imaginable! Think of the possibilities!
  5. No, that means the park is open until Midnight, then closes. And the following day reopens at 11am. 11 hour gap there. EDIT: Scratch that. I see what you're saying now. I was looking at Friday-Saturday, not Saturday-Sunday. EDIT 2: So looking at the text below the calendar, I think that's just a bug with the calendar view. The text below lists the hours as: Friday, October 23: 5:30pm to 12:00am Saturday, October 24: 11:00am to 12:00am Sunday, October 25: 11:00am to 10:00pm
  6. Intamin has announced they're closing because it's too difficult to continue without the support from Kinzel.
  7. According to Ryan El Toro doesn't do well in the cold in preseason and haunt. I can't imagine it doing better in winter.
  8. And that, my friends, is why Topper Track was created in the first place. Replacing high stress areas that require extensive maintenance.
  9. Programmable Logic Controller. It's the computer that controls the ride.
  10. The SBF Visa Maxi Dance 360 is pretty awesome. (One of the best videos I could find...) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQ_M6dapgfQ No I'm not biased... Well, A little...
  11. Topper Track would be a really good solution to make the ride smoother. It's relatively cheap, and reduces maintenance cost. It also can be added in sections so they could start with the high stress areas (bottom of the first drop) and add on later. I know our maintenance guys love it.
  12. A splotchy brownish grey version of unpainted wood.
  13. Thunderbird (and practically all B&Ms) use drive wheels in addition to brakes, so there's no need to open or close brakes while moving at low speeds through the station.
  14. Page 593. 3 posts mention something along the lines of the second half being slow. Granted, none of the three actually rode the ride, so they're pretty pointless comments.
  15. It's wheels are fairly substantially different from the regular trains. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was a fair amount slower and rougher because of it.
  16. No, but wood that's stressed repeatedly, like that on a coaster, can fail with much less force.
  17. Generally it's a marketing thing. The goal is to open around Memorial Day. So all the people at the park from opening until then see the construction and (hopefully) think "Hey! I wanna come back and ride that when it opens!". Cheap marketing, since it doesn't really cost the park anything. Doesn't mean it works well, but that's the goal. All the Six Flags parks does this.
  18. There are sprung electrical pickups on the train chassis (which looks like a metal comb with blobs on the end), and in line with where each car stops there are some grooves which the comb thing goes through. So when the train comes in as it passes each of these pickups it makes a 'chh' noise, and when the train stops there is an electric and data connection between the station track and the train. You can see these on inverted coasters quite easily on the top right (at least on Mk1 inverted coaster trains) of each car. I love the noise Nemesis makes because each wheel goes clunk over the join in the transfer track, and then 'chh' over the electrical pickups meaning you get a 'clunk clunk chh, clunk clunk chh, clunk clunk chh..' noise as the train comes in. I know this is the nerdiest thing to say in the history of nerddom. Thanks! I thought it must be something like that but wasn't sure. And I totally get the love for the noise. I love the sound of old Arrow coasters moving from the breaks then parking in the station.
  19. Does anyone know what the "chch ... chch ... chch ... chch" noise is as the train is moving in the station? I've heard it on videos of other B&Ms as well.
  20. I believe 48 in one day is the record at Aftershock.
  21. Do any of you actually ride and enjoy Trabants?
