Carowinds Discussion Thread
The Geek Mojo replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, if you look at the pattern...Carowinds Vortex will happen in 2019. And then I suspect they will add a major coaster in White Water Falls spot in 2020...Hopefully a new GCI since a wooden coaster is what they need most. It will also make sense to give the park a new wooden coaster before they convert Hurler later on. As for the pattern, Cedar Point changed Mantis to Rougarou in 2015 and then gave us Valravn in 2016. California's Great America changed Vortex to Patriot in 2017 and now giving us a new coaster (Railblazer) in 2018. Following the every two year conversion, Vortex will become a floorless in 2019 and give us a new coaster in 2020. I also think it'll probably be 2020 before we see that new hotel open. I think Canada's Wonderland's hotel will open first with them getting a brand new coaster in 2019. How do I know this? I don't. Just pure speculation. -
Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

Love these additions! Glad they were able to use Roller Soaker's spot without taking any more rides out. Great job, Hershey! -
Hopefully this ride will have a setup similar to Verboten and Cheetah Hunt where two trains load at once. If they have four total trains with two in the station, one on the tracks and one on the break run, I can see it working. Any less and this thing will be a nightmare to wait for. However, I will wait because this thing looks amazing!

I'm not obese but I am 6'4". Since I'm not 2 inches shorter, OWA will not get my support until they cater a little more to us tall people. I was really excited for this park cause it was in my home state. I'm used to being turned away on kiddie coasters but not regular coasters. Not a fan of the rules. Seriously I rode Thunderbolt at Luna Park with no problems...Not sure why Rolling Thunder is like this.

Robb & Elissa in the USA - 2017!
The Geek Mojo replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Great reports so far on two awesome parks which have two of the best coasters in the world. Absolutely love Fury and LR. Fury a little more, but both are easily top 5 coasters. Seems like a lot of us had the same experience with LR. Showed up disappointed last year, but got to ride this year. I do feel sorry for those that have come to Dollywood and missed LR because it was closed. It's such a great experience. -
What is that? Did anyone remember when Intamin introduced their 2nd generation ZacSpins last year? The S&S 4D spins aren't that low capacity coaster everyone thinks they are...They aren't that bad. I think Cedar Fair may be interested in these Intamin versions. According to this vid, I don't see any over the shoulder restraints so this ride might actually be pretty awesome with just a lap restraint. I don't think anyone has built one of these 2nd generation zac spins yet so who's to say knott's wouldn't be a good fit for this?

Dollywood Discussion Thread
The Geek Mojo replied to crispy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I was informed that Saturday was the busiest day Dollywood has had so far this season. I was there from opening to close and it was a madhouse. All the paths were pretty hard to maneuver through due to the crowds. I was also informed from staff that this was the reason for most of the technical issues the rides were having that day. The ride cycles were heavily increased due to the crowds and some of the workers there said the rides wasn't prepared. I don't know how much of that was true, but that's what I was told from workers that were at the rides that were broken down. I can understand that being a problem but who knows...I just hope Dollywood is able to correct the issue. I was disappointed that I didn't get to ride Firechaser Express...It was down every time I passed by it. There was a lot of issues with other rides but I at least got a ride on them while they were operating. I'm sure Dollywood has had busier days so they know how to do it, I just guess it was early in the season and this was their first hiccup. All in all though, I had a great time. I got to ride LR for the first time and it is my top 5 now. By far the best RMC I've rode so far. The only ones I haven't rode yet are Medusa, Cyclone, Outlaw and the one in Sweden...So, I'll see again when I ride those...But for now, LR is the best RMC imo. -
Dollywood Discussion Thread

Do you know if the unlimited Timesaver allowed unlimited rides on LR? Or are you still restricted to 1 ride on it while everything else you can reride multiple times? I was at Dollywood Saturday and got my family of four unlimited timesavers and was only expecting one ride on LR due to what was written on the website, but when I got to the park and got my lanyards, I was informed that it was unlimited on LR and also unlimited on Drop Line too when it opens next week. They said that only the limited timesavers give you one ride on each. So it's best to spend the extra ten bucks and get the unlimited. We rode LR five times with our lanyards. The park was crazy that day with crowds so it was worth it. We would have rode more but LR was having technical issues during the day along with a lot of other rides. Seemed like a lot of rides broke while we were there. I don't even think Firechaser Express ran that day. They were testing but never opened the ride. Smoky Mountain Rampage, Barnstormer, Mystery Mine, LR, Dizzy Disk all experienced downtime while I was close to the rides. It was a pain in the ass, but I still think I got my money's worth out of the lanyards. I do think writing on the cards with permanent marker is a bad idea. It was hot as hell that day and when you stick them inside your shirt while riding a ride so they don't fly off, the sweat from your body erases the marker from the cards. And mine had nothing written on it by the end of the day. We had issues at Wild Eagle because they didn't believe mine was legit anymore without the date written on it. So, just remember if you get one, try to keep the date from wiping off. Dollywood definitely gives the better deal when it comes to timesaver. Most parks are extremely more expensive for their line skipping system. They just need a better way for their guests to do it, the lanyard is kind of hassle to keep from having the date rub off. -

Track Spottings!
The Geek Mojo replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I guess we know why now the United States didn't get a B&M this year...5 new ones are headed to China. Also one is being converted here in the US and one was moved to Vietnam. From looking at their past, they usually build 4 - 6 a year. I guess their plate was full this year. I feel pretty sure that when things slow down a little, Cedar Fair will build some more here in the US. -
Alton Towers Discussion Thread
The Geek Mojo replied to Ed's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Looks like I picked 2018 as the perfect year to go to the UK for the first time. Alton Towers is getting a new coaster and Blackpool is getting a new coaster. Awesome! Thorpe isn't getting one, but I'm hitting what looks to be the best three parks in the UK next year. -
Looks like I'm going to be visiting this park for the first ever on opening day, April Fools Day. Just curious how operations are on opening day for those of you that may have visited in the past on opening day. I usually go to SFOG on opening day and their operations there are pretty terrible on opening day. They get better as the season goes along, but that first day...YIKES!! So, just curious on SFA. I'll be visiting BGW the day before, and have Six Flags passes, so I'm like why not...Let's pay this Six Flags park up the road a visit.

Well, I'm sad to see these shows change, but I'm still going to buy a SeaWorld platnium pass and visit several of their parks around the country this year and give the company my support. I've always loved SeaWorld and Busch Gardens and hope they can turn things around financially. Hopefully 2017 is the year they bounce back!

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
The Geek Mojo replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That was the funniest thing I've ever seen. lol -
I keep hearing people say they didn't like Thunderbolt at Luna Park but I thought it was a great ride. The restraints were a little funky but it didn't bother me. I would have rode it more than once if it didn't cost $10 a ride. I look forward to this clone cause I'm hoping I can get multiple rides on it without having to spend a fortune.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
The Geek Mojo replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Last year when we visited Cedar Point, we tried Pink's for the first time and thought it was absolute crap. We also saw the one in Hollywood when we visited this past summer, but decided to pass since the one at Cedar Point was so god awful. But other than that, we do enjoy eating at Cedar Point. The Midway Market buffet is really good and a great value for theme park standards and you can't beat escaping the park and going over to Hotel Breakers and eating in there and chilling at the bar. But as far as Pink's go...I'll pass. -
I've never took a TPR tour but I've been following this forum for many years. I've seen the trip reports and they all look fun but I'm the type of person who likes to plan stuff myself. I appreciate TPR because it allows me to read this forum FOR FREE (Thanks) and gain knowledge in order to plan my own trips. I don't post a lot, but I do read this forum a lot. And from reading this thread, I can understand why there's no TPR tours anymore, makes sense...Some people just suck. Which is why I stay away from touring in large groups. Small groups of people you know is the way to go!
