Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread

So if I am understanding the stats correctly, Yukon is the exact same height as Valravn. It just has a longer drop and is faster since it goes underground, right? For some reason it still seems taller to me but I guess that could be because Valravn is part of a more competitive skyline. -

That capacity "battle" is actually quite interesting. Both rides have the exact same layout, and the Bat has an extra car per train, so you think that it would win. But then again, the entrance is way out in the middle of nowhere so the trains are probably less full then on Vortex. Interesting! -
What is your next park?
thrillseeker4552 replied to onewheeled999's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Knott's and Magic Mountain in two weeks! I'm not really sure of the order, but I'll be doing both parks sometime between the Thursday and Monday. Can't wait to ride HangTime again and ride CraZanity for the first time. -
Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

This looks great! The B&M is giving me serious Mako vibes, which I expect to be a good thing. It is a little strange to have it right next door to Skyrush, but the two will have such vastly different ride experiences anyway. They are much more different from each other than the Carowinds and Canada's Wonderland (and probably soon to be Kings Island) B&M Hyper/Giga combos. I'm sure the coaster will be great (I'm a big fan of Nitro and Fury), but Skyrush is still my all-time favorite roller coaster, and if I ever make a return visit to the park, it will be to ride Skyrush again! lol -
Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

That seems cool in theory, but I also think it would be incredibly ugly. With that being said, I can totally see a GhostRider-esque GCI makeover for the Racer and/or the Beast, way down the line when the time comes, but I think if we ever see an RMC come to Kings Island, it will be in the form of a ground-up coaster. I would actually LOVE to see an RMC IBox makeover of the Beast or Racer (I’ve always been in favor of building kicka$$ coasters over “keeping it classic” for the sake of its reputation), but given how iconic both the Beast and Racer are for Kings Island, there is about a 0% chance of that happening, ever. It would be fun to see all the enthusiasts lose their minds though! -
What's new for 2019
thrillseeker4552 replied to larrygator's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thank you, as always, for putting this list together. It's nice to read a summary of everything. We all know 2018 was a very good year, but I would almost argue 2019 looks even better. In North America alone, we have major, custom roller coasters at Canada's Wonderland, Carowinds, Kennywood, SFMM, and SFGAm, as well as medium-sized additions at Kentucky Kingdom, Busch Gardens Tampa, and SFDK. Not to mention a floorless conversion and loads of frisbees and other flat rides. What a time to be alive! lol -

With the exception of Tatsu's pretzel loop, I generally find the Vekoma flyers more forceful and intense overall. However they are also much more awkward, loud, and rattly (in the case of Nighthawk). They're not completely horrible rides, but if Six Flags America and Carowinds follow suit in the next few years, I won't really shed a tear. Can't wait to see what replaces Firehawk. -

I didn't totally hate Firehawk, but it also doesn't really phase me that it's leaving. On to bigger and better things! -

Just a friendly assist - if you're going to correct someone on various heights of rides, at least get the park's tallest coaster's height correct. Leviathan is 306'. While we're on the subject: anyone know how high Windseeker swings? I know 301ft is thrown around but that is obviously the height of the tower; I bet it only swings at 260-270 feet, if that. -
While the name and theme does match perfectly with an Air Race, I'm not sure why they would do these little teasers for a simple flat ride. They didn't do this with previous flats they've added, as far as I know. I'm not saying huge new $20 million B&M or anything, but I have a feeling something a little larger than a regular flat ride is coming.

That is true, however I don't think it will improve capacity too much. Even if they dispatch a train after one leaves the midcourse, it makes no difference throughput-wise if you have to wait almost a full minute with an empty station before the first train completes the second half and returns to the station after crawling through the final brakes.

I would personally have no issue with them removing Firehawk, Vortex, or Flight of Fear, or any combination of those. And if we are indeed getting a big B&M in 2020, it's not a huge loss in my opinion. Gotta take a couple steps back to move forward sometimes. -
Looks great. When we visited NYC for the first time back in 2016, our hotel was in New Rochelle and I had zero idea there was a huge S&S tower that stuck out of a building downtown. It was a really cool surprise. Despite it being tame, the views were still great, and you could see Manhattan way off in the distance if you faced the right direction. I'm sure this one will be even better!

That track color is awesome. Ever since RMC I-box makeovers started becoming a thing, I've been waiting for a park to go with a natural wood-like beige color as opposed to bright reds and blues and greens (as much as I love those too). I'm very interested to see how this turns out. -
I am 99% sure Stinger got scrapped (someone correct me if I'm wrong). But even if it wasn't, I highly doubt that ride would go to Kentucky Kingdom with Kings Island's Invertigo very closeby. I know stuff like this doesn't matter most of the time, but it does seem like the KK-HW-KI trio don't have many coasters in common. This park should totally add an RMC Raptor. Then they would have an unbeatable one-two-three punch.

Most Overrated coaster?
thrillseeker4552 replied to BlackWidow's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I will echo thoughts about the Beast being overrated - during the day. It just meanders everywhere and is more of "historic journey" than a thrilling roller coaster. That is, until you get a front row night ride. Last summer my brother and I rode it in the front row at night, for the first time, and I still think that was one of the most memorable theme park experiences ever for us. It's just unlike anything else and I can't wait to do it again sometime. As for a roller coaster that is always overrated, day or night, I'd have to go with Top Thrill Dragster. Sorry, I know it has its fans... Don't get me wrong, I love the ride. It's impossible to not like a coaster that goes so fast and is so tall. But I like rides that I remember for a long time and that leave a lasting impact, and even after riding Dragster several times in 2012, 2014, and 2017, I still don't understand all of the hype. I will gladly take Millennium Force, Maverick, and even Magnum to some extent over Dragster any day. I like "complete" coasters. Just a personal taste. It's still a great ride and definitely iconic. But when I think of an overrated coaster, that one is the first to come to mind. -
i'm not sure any coaster at magic mountain dispatches in that time. I totally get why that seems silly, but honestly, I feel like if any coaster in the park is going to dispatch in that time, West Coast Racers will be it. It's much easier and faster to check 12 people's restraints than say 24, 28, or 32. And I know the comfort collars will slow that down a little, but not having seatbelts and being able to immediately pull down the restraint does make a difference. This on top of the new loose article method they plan on implementing for this ride, I can totally see 45 second dispatches. Superman at SFDK pumped out trains every 30-45 seconds and the line moved very well.

Nice report. I really didn't like Dare Devil either. The operator kept my sister and I hanging upside down for a solid 10-12 seconds, and it was horrible. I'm a huge fan of Superman as well. It's amazing how fast it runs (I swear we were going to go over the non-inverting loop on the backwards launch), and the operators were pumping out trains every 30 seconds it seemed.
