Carowinds Discussion Thread

I have always found the comments from entitled enthusiasts to be much more annoying than those from your average “GP” park guest. I have way more fun spending a day at a park with my “GP” family/friends than I do with a group of extreme enthusiasts. #tea -
I know this may not make sense from a business perspective, but I would absolutely love for Green Lantern to be replaced with a 4D Free Spin. Heck, theme it to the Joker like most of the ones at Six Flags. It would fit right in with the area and obviously be a big upgrade. But like I said, I'm not sure how likely this is given its similarities to Green Lantern and any possible "grudges" held against it by the GP. Or maybe it's not that big of a deal?

I’m super jealous of all of you going tonight and this weekend. I know Copperhead probably isn’t the “best” coaster opening this year, but it’s definitely my favorite in terms of theme, layout, and presentation. Everything looks so well done and high quality. It really is the perfect addition to this park. Can’t wait to ride it at some point. -

Add me to the list of people wanting to meet up on the 13th. I'll gladly drive down from Logan that day, I already bought my pass. Sounds like fun. -
^This right here. Also, be sure to check both areas of the website that list ride closures. There is one which Coasterbill linked above under the hours of operation, and there is another under "Play" and "Scheduled Ride Closures" on the website. Yes, they have been different before. Last weekend when HangTime was closed, one listed it and the other didn't. So I would recommend looking at both. As for attacking the park, get there at opening and go immediately to GhostRider. Even if it doesn't open immediately, wait for it to open. Then head to the back and do Xcelerator and HangTime. After that, it's all pretty much fair game. Weekends are obviously the busiest (especially once the Boysenberry Festival rolls around).

That was my thought too... but given Cedar Fair's trend, I bet Vortex will either be converted or removed in a few years anyway. Not that them having the same color scheme really matters to begin with. I really like red track/gray supports. Firehawk was one of my favorite color schemes. Looks great on Scorcher and it was SO needed. Hopefully the trains get a nice matching color scheme as well.

What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?
thrillseeker4552 replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Xcelerator on Saturday afternoon. It was almost a 1.5 hour wait, and after timing many dispatches while in line, I discovered the hourly capacity with one train is between 280 - 300 pph. Gotta entertain myself somehow! Lol -
I like Green Lantern more than most (I really love rides that are totally ridiculous and intense, even if painful), but I also wouldn't care too much if it is removed soon. I mean, I've survived just fine without it for almost two years. A similar situation with the "coaster count" happened back in 2011. They add two coasters that year and surpassed Cedar Point's count, but proceeded to remove Deja Vu a few months later and ended up at a tie. Closed or open, as long as Green Lantern is standing there when WCR opens, I'm sure they can market their 20 coasters with the vast majority of people not really caring.

Yes, it is comfortable. It rides like your typical B&M Floorless. It's not rough by any means, but like you said, the layout just isn't that good. I would personally have rather seen these small B&M Stand-Ups removed and replaced with something new and better, but I also appreciate parks trying to breed new life into their classic coasters. It is what it is, and they are certainly better than their stand-up counterparts IMO.

I rode both X2 and Twisted Colossus on Sunday, so traditionally my answer would be X2. However I sat on an outside seat and got a much rougher ride than usual, so I’m going to say Twisted Colossus this time. I really love both coasters and which one I prefer really depends on my mood. Twisted Colossus is definitely more consistently good though.

I agree. This coaster has a lot going for it, particularly the four major hang time moments (jojo roll, both loops, and top hat) as well as a sweet ejector hill, airtime hill launch, and super comfortable and open-air restraints. The theme and colors are also fantastic. I can’t wait to ride it sometime in the next couple years. -
Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

^I went through the entire workbook and the concepts and math presented here is the type of stuff I did in late middle and early high school, so my guess is 8th-11th graders, depending on whether this is an "advanced" course or not. I assume there were several blatantly obvious questions to those who maybe have never been to a theme park before or know anything about how roller coasters work. As a second-year civil engineering major and physics/math person, I REALLY wanna print out that workbook and go to Kings Island now. #nerdsrule -

Looking good! This lift hill is 50-degrees, right? Correct me if I'm wrong, but is that the steepest non-vertical lift hill out there? -
Yep. I think this solidifies our plan to finally visit the Florida parks in 2020. Not that they all weren't amazing already, but this coaster looks nuts. I can't believe this will be in the same park as Kumba, Montu, and Falcon's Fury (among others). Talk about a totally world-class ride collection.

Plus, the trains hold 12 people (assuming the concept video holds true), so that really makes it 720 theoretically, which we all know is basically impossible. The good news is the layout is very short, so if Six Flags operators want to be stupid fast, the block system definitely allows it (as opposed to a ride like GhostRider). However that also means very heavy stacking is possible, so we'll see.

Put me in the camp of preferring Viper over Scream as well. It is much more forceful, unique, and better-placed (scenery wise). And you can brace for the rough parts on Viper and avoid head-banging if you're the right height, but on Scream, you can't do anything about a ride that runs on octagonal wheels. Glad you had a good day. I'm going sometime during the week of March 11-15, so I'm hoping I will luck out with crowds and not need a Flash Pass.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
thrillseeker4552 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^My thoughts exactly. I don't see how a big, awesome B&M Flyer is more gimmicky than some of the stuff Cedar Fair has done recently as you mentioned. Cedar Point or not, I really hope we see another big B&M Flyer come to the US. I feel like there is so much potential for crazy elements and layouts on those coasters that really only Flying Dinosaur has begun to explore. -
^I think you're right. The popularity of GhostRider is insane, and part of me thinks it will always remain the most popular coaster in the park no matter what they add in the future. Especially since the retrack, it appeals to so many people. I've had days at Knott's where ever coaster is a walk-on, but GhostRider is still a 20-30 minute wait. Capacity is partly the reason, but HangTime and Xcelerator also have sub-par capacities and are much more frequently walk-ons than GR. The festivals and "discount Disney experience" is the real draw for Knott's, I think. They didn't add a major coaster between 2004 and 2018, and they saw huge attendance surges with the Boardwalk, Voyage to the Iron Reef, Ghost Town Alive, Berry Festival expansion, and more. As for CGA, CP, and KD, I have no idea. But I do think Knott's is a "different animal" than those parks.
