  1. $4,000,000 USD investment 1600 rph capacity Has two lift hills next, Wildfire @ SDC
  2. Thursday, June 24, 2010 David Trust - Valley Hills' spokesperson Valley Hills Amusement Park opened its gates to the public for the very first time on Friday, May 5, 1972. Guests were greeted by the iconic Parachute Tower that still greets visitors to this day. Valley Hills also offered 8 rides and attractions, including the classic Kanawha Railway mine roller coaster. Valley Hills has grown from only 8 rides and attractions to over 45 by 2010. Quite the expansion in over 35 seasons. Gone are the days of Parachute Tower completely dominating the skyline. Twisted steel track and other high-tech scream machines have helped transform Valley Hills into a thrill-seekers paradise. Stay tuned, there is much more to come at the one and only Valley Hills! ~David Trust
  3. ^ That looks like one of those ghetto-fair coasters that I'd never ride. It needs wires for balancing, and with the amount of shaking, I can't imagine it being a comfortable ride experience. That sharp transition halfway through the loop looks especially jarring.
  4. This brake run is quite questionable.
  5. This is a very interesting read. Riverwood park has slowly grown into quite the small-town amusement park in the past 51 years. This is very realistic for a park that is operated locally. It's a shame Mini-Bobs didn't make it that long, that would of easily been a classic if it would've stayed around a bit longer. Anyways, the Riverwood Zoo was an excellent choice for this park, it captures the essence and theme of this park well. Small, yet charming. I had a feeling '78 was going to be some type of looper, although a Schwarzkopf shuttle loop was a bit surprising. Although I think the coaster could use some more green. Nevertheless, a great park with an interesting story. Intriguing.
  6. That is just plain terrible! Someone forgot to depump their vertices.
  7. Hmm. Very Interesting! I just read all 29 pages of this park, amazing work. The park had a very strong start complete with a full variety of rides and attractions. I also like how you do an update for your Halloween event. I know that must take a lot of work each season. It does pay off because it makes your park that much interesting and unique. Speaking of which, will the Halloween event return now with the new situation? I'd love to see Horror Hollow return, I was devastated to see it go out in a fire. I really liked that haunt. Anyways, It's great to see this park back up and running again on the forums. It will be VERY interesting to see this park try and make it back on track with it loosing almost all of it's old rides. I'm very intrigued on how this will turn out. Your park is so well done, It's inspired me to get back into RCT3 again. I'm looking forward to a possible Pioneer restoration, I hope it's not scrapped.
  8. This was true with Oblivion, and Diving Machine G5. SheiKra managed to get it right with a true 90° drop. And I assume every Dive Coaster following has a true 90° drop as well.
  9. Dive coasters provide a unique enough total ride experience to make those vertical drops on the parks Intamin's irrelevant. Whatever it is, people will complain, yet it will still draw both GP and enthusiasts to the park and everyone will enjoy it. A good ride is a good ride, and Cedar Point hasn't disappointed yet (minus Disaster Transport).
  10. Seriously? Do you even know all of the kinds of roller coasters and flat rides that Gerstlauer makes and has made earlier in their history? You could be riding a Gerstlauer ride and not even realize it! The last thing that that company needs right now is people refusing to ride their attractions! I know most of the rides in the parks that I visit don't have / don't have many Gerstlauer rides. So this shouldn't be much of a problem for me.
  11. I totally agree. I love super intense coasters as much as the next guy, but intensity does not make a great coaster automatically, and just because a coaster isn't intense, does not make it a flaming pile of crap either. I personally believe a dive coaster is the perfect fit for CP. But that's just me... This! I really don't understand why most enthusiasts believe that extreme forces = great ride? Obviously, forces don't sell tickets. There is much more to a ride than blackout G's. SheiKra and Griffon both have moments of plentiful positive and near zero G's, so I'd expect the others to have the same. Dive Coasters usually have unique layouts with wonderful ride experiences. That, to me, sounds like a great coaster to ride and to invest in.
  12. They'll probably announce on the "final day" that there will be an official announcement later on in the season .
  13. That drop looks to be >90°. Maybe it's just the angle of the photograph. This coaster still delivers, in spades, despite it's rather small stature.
  14. This statement though. That would be like someone having a car wreck in a Chevy, so you want to steer clear of all Chevy's. If it were a Gerstlauer problem I'm pretty sure all Gerstlauer roller coaster would be closed till the investigation was over. Like what happened with Intamin Drop Towers after the Superman accident. I simply don't feel safe on there coasters at the time being. Until all the kinks are worked out with the Smiler, I will pursue other coasters. I still do like Gerstlauer, I just don't trust them with my life for the time being. With more investigation and details, I will be able to make a more informed decision. My choice, my life. You can at least respect that, as it won't affect anyone's life but my own.
  15. It's unfortunate that a second amputation had to happen due to this incident. I do not trust Gerstlauer right now, I will try and steer clear of their rides.
  16. A Premiere LSM launch coaster would be perfect for WOF.
  17. People are more concerned about showing their Facebook friends & Twitter followers that they're doing something, rather than just enjoying the experience without having to lug around an idiotic piece of self-absorbed technology. Strange world we live in today. These need to be banned in every public place, and you should be considered a flight risk by owning one because clearly you don't make wise decisions.
  18. I find nothing wrong with KD's current lineup. A new coaster is always welcomed in my book, but it seems another large investment isn't within KD's reach right now. Hence why the park hasn't seen anything like CP, CW or Carowinds has been receiving. Those parks have the greatest potential according to the people who actually run them, not just enthusiast's speculation, so it only makes sense to invest into those properties accordingly. So I don't understand the crying behind not having a new coaster in 5 years. Believe it or not, Kings Dominion also targets people OTHER than coaster junkies. Hard to believe isn't it? Windseeker, a lovely and expansive children's area, classics being brought back, a waterpark expansion, and countless other additions and amenities have been developed since 2010. It's quite clear that the park is also targeting people outside the coaster fanatic community. So whay do people continue to expect a new coaster to fall out the sky every year? If Kings Dominion hadn't added anything in the past 5 years, the whining could be justifiable. But that's clearly not the case, so please stay calm and enjoy the numerous coasters the park has to offer.
  19. Something with descent length and pacing is what I look forward to the most. Bone-crushing G's don't really make a ride "good" in any aspect other than detracting from the overall ride experience. *cough* I305 *cough* Steep drops and strategically placed acceleration and G forces are what create some of the most amazing coasters.
  20. The floorless design is just an innovative touch on the standard sit down style of coaster. Dozens of parks have plenty of sit down coasters, so I honestly don't understand how this is an issue at all. Maverick and Corkscrew are both sit-down style looping coasters, however they both have unique characteristics that set them apart enough to diversify CP's lineup. And the same can be said with a Dive Coaster. What makes this style of coaster unique is the dive experience combined with the unique & compact layouts. The angular velocity enhances this experience even further, probably even more so than the Wing Coasters depending on the seating style.
  21. I've read recently on the forums that SFGADV verbally quoted the ride at $25 million. Much more than the rumored price.
  22. I usually scream on steep drops, those always get me. Laughter and hands up the rest of the course though.
  23. Well, that is because Rougarou is an official floorless coaster model. The others are a different type of coaster entirely and happen to have no floor. It is possible to market anything with the right people behind it, as anything new to GP would be received positively. The argument is question though, begs the question as to what would be the better choice; Flyer or Dive, when it comes to diversity. And my choice is going to the dive coaster. This is based upon; 1.) The current size of the possible location next to Celebration Plaza, 2.) A Dive coaster, in my personal opinion, would be the best choice from B&M to diversify the park out of all the other offerings from B&M when option #1 is taken into consideration. This is a shame. I don't really see why anyone would complain about getting a new coaster, unless it's a Vekoma. Just for the record, I'm not complaining about anything.
  24. Having both an Invert & Wing coaster, a flyer would be a bit repetitive. SFGAm has a Flyer, a Wing, and an Invert. This is true. The point is, there all advertised as; With Wicked Twister & Iron Dragon, along with the previously mentioned GateKeeper and Raptor, you can only sell the "total freedom/ flight" gimmick so many times. It is true that a flyer provides a unique ride experience, along with the previously mentioned ones. And I also prefer flyers over Dive coasters. However, the Dive coaster would help diversify Cedar Point's lineup further than what a flying coaster could. Which is the argument the quote is based upon.
