  1. I've been on Medusa West 4 times in my life (despite living in Sacramento which is pretty close to Discovery Kingdom). I never thought to try riding it all the way in the back, so I thought B&Ms were wimpy since I only rode in the very front. Then last month I rode in the far back and it was a totally different ride. The dive loop and the zero-g and the sea-serpent were real highlights for the ride finally, and I could feel what the zero-g roll was intended to be felt like. I'm going to start riding more B&Ms in the very back from now on.
  2. Taskbar is hidden so the desktop is just my repository for icons (and files if I'm lazy). It's got Medusa West in it.
  3. I too have probably seen minor "celebrities" without noticing who they were, but one I definitely saw was Alex Trebek at the Sunrise Mall in Citrus Heights, California during a Jeopardy tour.
  4. Back in elementary school I drew a symbol for myself as well. Do you also draw random "creatures"? In Social Studies in 7th grade, we learned about the Kabba in Mecca and I'd draw different styles of the Kabba (and surprisingly a friend named Gerard understood and played along. We drew the Kabba as though it were Romanesque, tropical themed, pirate themed, as though it were made of flesh and bones, as though it were pure gold . . .) I still draw weird and awesome doodles to pass time in class. My avatar is a picture of SFDK's Medusa West, edited with Paint.NET.
  5. The clothoid shape should be really helpful for me. Thank you for making these objects, aka "tools". A suggestion for the future is that you could make a cycloid shape.
  6. In my wisdom teeth removal experience in February I remember waking up for a split second and noticed the oral surgeon violently drilling in my mouth, then all of a sudden I was walking into my mom's car and started cursing the city of Folsom for not having an amusement park
  7. SBL huh? Ahh! Coasters are next to be outsourced to China! (at least B&Ms are MADE in North America)
  8. Something I haven't seen much of is the electrical rooms of roller coasters, and their air compressors. I've been able to take pictures of Tatsu's and California Screamin's air compressors, but other than that I haven't seen much.
  9. Why can't they build a park half the size of Hard Rock Park and theme it very well, maybe build a very good wooden coaster, put it in a part of the country that doesn't have theme parks in all directions . . . HRP's and WWW's closings will reinforce what not to do when starting a new park, though.
  10. Looks like Big Boom and Camel Coaster got new trains that don't look like they're from the 1950s.
  11. www.myspace.com/beta548 Asides from all the ranting about life I have , I have pictures of roller coasters and stuff in "My Pics" and even a POV video of Goliath. Tell me you're from TPR and you can add me.
  12. ^^ Here's Shuttle Loop: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQnNvNthvZg I don't know why this video doesn't get to have "watch in high quality" but the others do. Also, do you know if there's a better way to capture DVD videos than CamStudio (I have Camtasia but never figured how to get that to work, and CamStudio works, but it seems to capture really low quality video)? Also, I noticed that this DVD also has the Vekoma corkscrew from Tokyo Summerland, and the Loop Screw from Seibuen Yuenchi as well as the Standing and Sitdown loop coaster from Yomiuriland. There's also Moonsault Scramble, but the video of Moonsault scramble that's already readily available on Youtube is the same one as on this DVD.
  13. I actually posted a video clip from a DVD I got of Japanese roller coasters on youtube, and one of the rides is Dangai (I also posted Mount Rocky Coaster, Giant Coaster, and will post Bobsled (which is from the defunct Yokohama Dreamland). The DVD also has UltraTwister from Tokyo Dome City, that looping mouse from Tobu Zoo, Bandit, Shuttle Loop (Yokohama Dreamland). I can post those some time. The DVD was made from a Japanese Newsreel from the 80s, so I believe the actual copyright might be expired, but if not.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reVpwE8e5o4 Sorry, I used CamStudio to capture the video, but my laptop would occasionally freeze (it's not the ride randomly stopping), so bear with it
  14. I went in 2003, and again this year August 2. My 10 year old cousin was scared to ride any of the big rides, but she was excited about one: Revolution. She went on it with a smile and exited with a huge smile, saying that this was the greatest ride. I admit, this ride is my favorite at Magic Mountain, along with Riddler. At night, both rides are amazing. Riddler had the roar and the feeling of the wind. Revolution swerves around in a forest, and it feels like there's alot of speed. The loop is really dramatic, considering there's a long ramp leading to it, it's really the star of the ride. And then the ride continues even after that! My cousin said she felt like Superwoman, flying in the sky, and through that loop (her first inversion on a roller coaster). Considering how awesome the ride is now, I can only imagine how great it was when it opened! Now why can't more parks build rides like this, instead of launching them or giving them vertical lift hills and what not; I don't think they need to spend 20 million dollars on a ride where the steel is used more to make a fat spine instead of more of a track layout, when they could spend half that on a great ride like Revolution, with money to spare! After riding Viper, well...I never thought SLC's were rough, but Viper was honestly the worst p.o.s. ride I've ever been on! I felt like Revolution put to shame many rides that were built years later, considering that time is supposed to lead manufacturers to perfect their rides (excluding Intamin and B&M, who did improve their rides, possibly due to Stengel's input). Arrow, apparently, didn't learn when they build Viper, but they've finally learned their lesson nowadays and I hope their new S&S rides are built more.
  15. I looks to me like the leaf springs on those brakes default to close, and the air is used to either open the brakes, or the close the brakes faster than a spring could.
  16. That picture looks like the loop was redone to be better, considering that Shenzhou Coaster's wasn't exactly the traditional teardrop shape.
  17. Industrial espionage? Maybe that's why Vekoma's got their new spring-loaded wheels and four-across seats And from the sound of it, B&Ms offices are no more than an apartment complex converted for their purposes. I guess that's how they do it in Europe.
  18. I hope this ride can convince other parks to consider installing more Arrow-S&S rides, since they've shown that they can design better transitions and heartline their track to be smoother (so maybe the Stengel monopoly on dynamic calculations can be broken). This ride does look like a twisted wild mouse, and the lift goes by really quick.
  19. LOL, those Japanese ads all over the place, even near buildings that have national importance... Gorky Park really does look like it is in a nicer area than it deserves That park looks like some of those Japanese parks except with people actually visiting it. Moscow itself looks like it has the potential to be really nice if it weren't for the crazy drivers and all the pollution. But where you went for the meeting near the Volga river really contrasts with the grayness that's in Moscow.
  20. What is it with S&S and having skinny tubes with extremely fat tubes in them? Looks like Eejanaika with the crazy supports. Hopefully this ride doesn't vibrate as much as Eejanaika, but in my experience compact coasters have tended to be rough.[/img]
  21. That's kid of like V2 at Discovery Kingdom. I think people are scared of the noise it makes when launching. I realized those weren't screams but were part of the launching mechanism. The ride itself wasn't even scary. But at least it's easy to get multiple rides on.
  22. With all these clones and a few custom designs, Happy Valley could become the Six Flags of China
  23. Dang, the east coast already has so many hypers, I'd love it if California got something that was at least like Goliath at SFOG. As for the unpainted track look, I know that there are indoor rides that have that look, but obviously they don't have to contend with the elements.
  24. 7.5:1 was the conversion factor. Entrance would be around 25 dollars. I wish companies in the US (like Wal Mart) would use some of their money to build some nice little theme parks with maybe a couple roller coasters so people can enjoy them. Instead of building a billion of the same store, they could devote some of their money to putting a nice little theme park in the community they chose to put their ugly box store in.
  25. Goliath's colors sure look bright. It either reminds me of the Pokemon logo, or blond people with blue eyes, one of the two And from the picture in the front of the park, it looks like there's so many supports just to hold up the first loop. It's like there was so much effort to raise the loop higher, must have been something to do with the original landscaping at Japan.
