  1. I totally disagree with that. I found Rush @ Thorpe park to be rather tame. There is some floating on the top of each swing, but you dont get the sensation of being on something powerful at the bottom. The KMG Afterburner that I rode on a fair 1 1/2 years ago was waaaaaaaaay better. It had more airtime on the top, and pulled some good G's at the bottom. I still think Skyhawk will be a fun ride, and since its so large Im sure it will be pretty cool looking down when youre at the top I know I was terrified when I went on a KMG Afterburner/Fireball. The feeling like being on a swing and that it looked like you could go completely over...
  2. trips to IOA, Cedar Point, and WDW. You DO actually know what the means, right? --Robb "Honestly, getting a little annoyed with your attitude." Alvey I thought he had it right... Seemed like your response might be saying he hadn't been to other parks. Oh and BTW those of us in Fort Collins hate when the Greeley smell invades our airspace... There's a reason the South Park mascots are the cows... I've lived in Abbotsford, BC before and driven around during "fertilizer season"
  3. What version? They just came out with 1.5. Check Edit->Preferences->Web Features->Load Images Check your exceptions, themeparkreview.com might be there.
  4. Ah, finally a thread to reminisce. For me, it's Expo 86 in Vancouver, BC. There was the Looping Starship-originally to be called Challenger, but changed after the shuttle accident. There was the tower with Parachute-style gondolas. There was a log ride. There were TWO 3-D IMAX movies. There was the GM pavillion, now Spirit Lodge at Knott's. Then there was The Scream Machine-two loops and two corkscrews-not bad for 1986. After the fair the Scream Machine was moved to St Louis, where it is now the Ninja. The Looping Starship. Talk about hang-time! Lots of loose change underneath this ride. Note World's tallest free-standing flagpole with world's largest hockey stick, eh. The Parachute Tower Scream Machine
  5. If you are at Puyallup in early September, you can also hit the Pacific National Exhibition in Vancouver, which is on for 17 days ending Labo(u)r Day. Even if you aren't there for the Fair, there is still a Carl Phare design woodie, a Vekoma corkscrew and a Canadian-built Giant mouse. Plus a few flats like Enterprise, a 202 S&S tower, a Huss top spin and a Huss frisbee. And Enchanted Village is on the way with a couple of coaster credits. Plus, three hours south you have Oaks park in Portland, Oregon with a Pinfari ZL42 (31 foot loop) and a KMG Fireball (120 degrees up!) Screamin Eagle at Oaks Carl Phare design coaster at PNE
  6. My wife and I were on the Corkscrew at Playland when it stopped on the lift hill. The ride op came up and told us one car hadn't been locked. They flipped the lock and we were on our way after about 5 minutes. Freaked my daughter out a little bit, waiting with her auntie...
  7. Lots of supermodels are less than 65kg 8)
  8. He's Irving "Swifty" Lazar come back to life! Here's late Superagent Swifty Lazar with Dianna Ross. Photo from http://dianarossfriends.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/irvingswiftylazar.jpg
  9. Maybe she was talking about the 101? Police in hot pursuit of Trinity in Matrix Reloaded. Photo from http://www.norcalmovies.com/TheMatrixReloaded/DowntownChase/m2reloaded-downtown18.jpg
  10. On a side note, Disney should build a pedestrian overpass connecting DL and DCA, make every pass a park-hopper, realign the Monorail to have a station somewhere around Paradise Pier and rebuild the People Mover to connect Hollywood Backlot. Oh, and rename DCA to something like Californialand-and bring back the Skyride. Seriously, building GhostRider over a road was BRILLIANT.
  11. Corkscrew at Silverwood. It was the first looper at Knott's, the years and the move have not been kind. Apparently they are replacing the head restraints a few rows at a time, but those old restraints make you feel that you just rode with a very angry Moe, hell, ALL Three Stooges.
  12. When we were at Silverwood, it felt like every day was like that. I was speculating that their new ride was going to be a drop tower (turns out to be true) and they would probably call it "Jumping For jesus" (don't know if true). Just picture Ned Flanders' kids on it...
  13. It took Disney about 45 years for Anaheim to agree to their expansion plans. I hope Knott's doesn't have to build a cheap "Kalifornia" park to qualify
  14. Going only from what I see from the freeway and what I have read, it seems like nobody thinks too much of Enchanted Village. For one thing, Silverwood six hours away in the middle of nowhere, has two coasters taller than Timberhawk. Timberhawk is barely taller than the 1958 classic at Playland, two and a half hours away. I hear most of the effort went into Wild Waves, which has rusty and rotten stuff, not good for a waterpark. When is someone in the Northwest going to install a good rocket coaster?
  15. They have been getting family thrill rides, though. I hear Silver Bullet is so smooth, you aren't scared even when it does some pretty freaky stuff. I do like most of that old western stuff. Maybe they need to reopen the Birdcage, have a PG-13 version of "Deadwood". "Gosh darn, Al-you really peeve me off sometimes, consarnit!"
  16. Loopiing Thunder at Oaks Park in Portland, Oregon has a 31 and a half foot loop, it's a Pinfari ZL42. Don't put your locker key in your left thigh pocket, my bruise lasted about 2 weeks... Looping Thunder at Oaks Park
  17. Here's my list: Disneyland Playland/PNE (more rides during the fair) Calaway Calgary Stampede Galaxyland at West Edmonton Mall (when it was called Fantasyland) Knott's Universal (back when the tram was the only ride) Sea World (does San Diego Zoo count, too, what with the Skyride?) Belmont Park (my wife and I just happened to take a wrong turn and drive by the year it reopened ) Oaks Park Fun Forest (formerly Gayland, sorry, Gayway) Silverwood
  18. Dude, you missed Playland at the PNE-Vancouver, BC, and Calaway-Calgary, AB and Galaxyland-Edmonton, AB. Great coverage in Washington state, BTW.
  19. Here's a freaky thing. If you check the date on the Terraserver, it's one of the three days around spring break my family was at Disneyland. If you look hard enough, you might see our blue Honda in the Red Roof parking lot. I guess the time would be around 2-3pm, judging by the shadows-we're probably in Pirates. Google Maps uses the same picture set for Buena Park/Anaheim.
  20. Hey neighbo(u)r. My home park is Playland at the PNE, about 30 minutes away. It has a 1958 Walter Leroy designed woodie, an Arrow corkscrew and a 202 foot S&S lift/drop tower. The next closest park would be your "Enchanted" Village, about 3 hours away. I am thinking of getting a season pass just to get into SFMM when we drive to SoCal this summer.
  21. No kidding. I am actually more scared during the wait time with the little bounce. The actual ride is basically a fast elevator ride. Hellevator at Playland 202 foot S&S
  22. I screamed like Ned Flanders the whole way up Xcellerator. The point in Xcelerator when I stopped worrying about how fast we launched and started worrying whether we launced fast enough...
  23. Splash Mountain. I mean, grab a Fastpass, go through Pirates and Haunted Mansion, have a snack, then hop on board. Wait two hours in line in the heat of the day? No thanks.
  24. Also my first-when it was at Expo '86 and called The Scream Machine Here it is in the original red and white. Photo from http://bobbea.com/expo-86/rides.html
