  1. Thinking and planning ahead to the next RCT II challenge- I'm working on the final edition of the park now, as in: Final terraforming and ride placement. As this is Teh Big Dipper challenge, that is the cornerstone of the game level itself, but I'm also seeking more ideas for making this challenge 'pop' a bit- as in, I'd like people to get uber excited. What I need is this: Rides and such that are now 'in the past' or gone that would drive up some more attendance to the challenge. These rides can be ANYTHING from Theme Park History- including but not limited to recent park losses, as well as classics of other eras. So far, the list includes: Teh Big Dipper (A great call, Robb- and a great kernel to seed this challenge with) and The Bat (Suspended). I'd like to install a few more 'classic rides' before completing the park itself, and packaging it for the Challenge. To tie it together, I'd like to put toghether a 'history' portion leading into the challenge itself (A 'pre-show' if you will) using elements from TPR- I.e. CoasterTube, Shane's Amusement Attic, etc. and feeding those into the TPR Challenge. Any other ideas are -greatly- apprecaiated.
  2. grrt, I think it looks more like SFA every day: as in: Abandoned and dying. I'd perhaps 'weed up' the place a bit myself- or add 'trash' even.
  3. I agree with DJ on this one. Hacking and making parks that are full of CS is one thing, but the author of this thread has been quite clear: NO CS is being used here. Guys, girls, Those who are in-between: READ THE FIRST PAGE OF A THREAD! R.D. Games Forum Moderating Team
  4. Greetings from your Games Forum Moderating team. Please read the "Posting Rules" for the Games Forum. You can find those HERE! Specifically THIS particular part of it: 3.) Do NOT start a thread for a park if you only have one screenshot, or just a Photoshoped logo. We want quality posts and threads. Get your park, or track, started and moving along before you need to make an announcement. A video of your park will suffice, as those take time to put together and edit. I do look forward to seeing your ride... but your opening post must have more content in it- Thanks, R.D. Games Forum Moderating Team
  5. That's great to know, too. I've sent out e-mails to several parks who had rides with the Spillway element in it (BGT, for example) for any older pics to share with the audience- I'm hoping they get back to me soon enough. R.D.
  6. Right now, I'm still searching for pics of the spillway. I've heard that many flumes did get retrofitted without spillway elements- save the Kennywood Park Log Jammer (Which has been my only encounter with the Spillway element to date). According to an old Arrow press release (Thank you Shane's Amusement Attic!) Blackpools was one of the first- but the actual first priviledge goes to Six Flags Over Texas. As for the 'split' coaster in RCT III.... You'll have to wait and see, but it's closer than you think. Stay tuned to the Patent Thread for that in a future episode! R.D.
  7. Nice job- and a great find. Even though we've already got a pretty good idea of what they have in store- this just pushes the envelope from the last time. I'm curious though, as to the new character; this seems almost a bit too much when you think about it- unless they are trying to throw down additional clues and throw off the trail... R.D.
  8. 5/2/11: Today I wanted to take a trip in the W.A.B.A.C. machine for a bit, before blasting into the future. Arrow's Log Flume This theme park staple has been around since 1963, when Six Flags Over Texas installed the first variation in their park. Since then, the log flume (Particularly the Arrow varietal) has proliferated throughout the world- and it's been a staple at many parks for decades. Arrow developed many different installation styles for their Log Flumes, including different and custom boats, variations in gauge of the trough, and exciting elements such as the Spillway- a coaster drop for a flume, the dual-trackway drop (HersheyPark and Magic Mountain had those) and combinations of all of these rides (The Great America parks where two different flumes were installed into one site). \ You can read about the Arrow flumes from Shane's Amusement Attic HERE! For those who like flumes, here's a mock-up I built in RCT III for demo purposes. A splashing success no matter how they built it. Looking at it from the rear. The spillway element, as seen in RCT III Download this demo flume HERE- in the Games Exchange! And now: Onto the patents! The first of the patents covers the original Arrow loading station, and mechanisms therein; this is the 'standard' for many of the earlier park installations. Arrow Log Flume.pdf The original Log Flume Patent. Later, Arrow refined the platform, and many later rides featured the Rotary Loading option. Similar to Intamin's Rotary loader for their River Rapids rides, this was also offered as a retrofit for some flumes. As far as my research goes, no log flumes ever were retrofitted with the rotary loading platform. Arrow Log Flume - Rotary Platform.pdf The Arrow Rotary loading platform. Two of the add-ons to custom flumes were the Dual trackway drop, and the Spillway. The dual drop was featured on many later hydroflumes and log flumes, and Kennywood installed the Spillway element on their Log Jammer flume in 1974. Arrow Log Flume - Dual Drop (Spillways).pdf The Dual Drop system, as featured on many rides Arrow Log Flume - Spillway with recovery.pdf The Spillway element, which gave your flume that 'coaster' feel to it. Intamin's Rocket Coasters (Accelerators) This staple of many parks is one of the favorites of many TPR members. From it's initial development as a prototype at Knott's Berry Farm (The Excelerator) to the later generations of coasters featuring many variations in design, it is clear that Intamin came up with a winning design. The actual basis for it goes back to a long time legend in coaster circles, Mr. Reinhold Spieldiener, and his sons, who worked under contract with Intamin to develop this evolution off the original flywheel catapult design perfected by Anton Schwarzkopf. Ironically, Spieldiener also is credited with the modern vertical loop, working again with Schwarzkopf in creating the Clothoid (Klothoide) element shape now used on many looping coasters. While early models, and some later ones, too, used a flywheel clutch design, LSM technology is working it's way into the designs as well, including the smaller inversion variants that are now featured at Cedar Point (Maverick) under the stock name Blitz coasters. The prototype can be seen in a POV by Robb Alvey http://www.themeparkreview.com/coastertube/play.php?vid=xlr8r_m4sc[/coastertube]]HERE! The Blitz coaster (Maverick) can be seen HERE! I created a mock-up of the ride itself for RCT III players as well- my own variation on the Accelerator coaster theme: Intamin Launched Sexiness. Looking at the curvacious goodness... Fan turns and overbanked turns- usually seen on a few of these models. Download the ride HERE- In the Games Exchange! And now, the Patent itself! The patent for the Accelerator coaster is a close variation of the actual prototype itself. Some things were modified for the actual park use, but since then variations have been installed in other parks with a similar effect. Intamin Xcellerator Launch Patent.pdf Intamin Launched GOODNESS! ******************************* And now, a word from our sponsor: If you like this thread, POST A MESSAGE IN IT! Let me know what you think of it- and be sure to keep checking in on Mondays for updates. I've got quite a few new patents saved up for the future- including the H.G. Traver Safety Cyclones, the original Flying Turns patents, and hundreds of others to go through. But this thread won't live without your love back- Let me know what you want to see, and I'll try to do my best to get it to you. R.D.
  9. ^^ Perhaps the reference is that the platform will be BETWEEN the Comet... and the Great bear... Just a hunch (Well, less of a hunch, but more of 'that was what they implied; we already know that's where the platform will go. Someday.
  10. so: c l a y would be translated as : 1 19 14 23- which when broken down equals= 20 37. Oy. Numbers. It had to be NUMBERS?????
  11. NICE! I passed it over completely- Which means... let the numerology begin. Edit: I'm presuming yours was backwards first, yes? As I'm getting a different number alignment out of my decoding.
  12. I'm not seeing a furious Baco- but perhaps a Hyper with Furious baco trains on it- It would make more sense, based upon what we've already learned. Anyone broken the new 'hidden' code yet?
  13. I lost eight people on 9/11- all airline employees for United and American- and have dealt with the grief of that day for the past decade. For the first time in ten years, I actually felt a sense of closure last night as I went to sleep- as I finally can say to myself that perhaps I can now let go of the ghosts of the past. This should not be a joyous celebration- but rather, a somber end to a long, painful and emotionally destroying decade in American history. The memory of those we lost should be what's remembered- not the death of a man who murdered so many. R.D.
  14. Agreed: I think how you wrote the challenge out in the first place was -perfectly- clear, but somehow the term "Loops" "Like Vortex" and "Arrow" means "Inversions that might have a loop-like quality to them but aren't really a 'loop" "It can be like any coaster out there, especially if it's not like Vortex" and "We can make it like a B&M, or Vekoma, right?" (At least that's what two of our members READ it as, which is -sad- really. Interpreting things too far off the mark) -Real- needs to re-read things a bit clearer next time. One would hope with a name like that he'd be able to realize that Crazy Park Manager wanted a coaster with the Vortex Elements and concept in it....
  15. The Challenge: Build an Arrow Dynamics multi-looping coaster using the "Corkscrew Coaster" coaster type. Because the manager wants a coaster like Vortex, it must do the following: Have a drop of at least 138 feet Reach a speed of at least 55mph Have at least two loops, two corkscrews, and a batwing Also: You are not allowed to modify the terrain in any way. Keep in mind that you don't have to necessarily recreate Vortex, just include its elements, height, and speed. You could include a wrap-around corkscrew a la Drachen Fire to your coaster and it would be okay as long as it still had the two loops, two corkscrews, and batwing. I'm going to stick with DJ's reccommendations at this point: The spirit of the contest was for a coaster with Vortex's elements- Crazy Park Manager liked those. As for six inversions- Two loops, two corkscrews, two sidewinders should be used- that's the spirit of the game as writen... But, if you add elements, I'm interpreting it as OK: So long as you keep the six elements listed. Should they be exactly like Vortex? Not necessarily. I'd like to see people be creative with the origins of their ride myself- that is, keep the spirit of the Vortex in your design- but be creative with it as well. I hope this clarifies the 'rules' a bit- and ends the confusion- R.D.
  16. I said it before, I'll say it again... Kleenex, Please. And we don't have sixteen of these things in the USA because???? (And now yet another reason to hate Grona Lund: 1.) The Mother Schwarzkopf Twister. 2.) More coasters in one square inch than Blackpools- and finally 3.) The Mother GG twister.
  17. Robb and Elissa are -frequently- on Chat... You just have to be there when THEY are!
  18. #1: Elton John #2: RuPaul Charles #3: Vin Diesel #4: Neil Patrick Harris #5: Dan Butler #6: Rupert Everett #7: Tom Cruise #8: Michael Stipe #9: Bert the Conqurer #10: Kevin Spacey As for the fruit I like to EAT... #1: Marionberries #2: Boysenberries #3: Olallaberries #4: Raspberrries #6: Blackberries #7: Clementines #8: Grapefruit #9: Lemons #10: Limes
  19. Pass the kleenex, please.... I will say that ride is nucking futs. it's like H.G. Traver has come back from beyond, and gifted us one last piece of treasure. It's the Family coaster fro dysfunctional families. Outstanding job, Robb- and everyone else who's worked on the filming of that ride- it's phenominal all over.
  20. I think the link to letter is just one part of the history of that portion of HP; the pictures appear (At least ONE of them does) to be of Comet Hollow before the first Hershey Wildcat was built- which would make logical sense. Since the official announcement is still a ways off, they will have plenty of time to lead us through how they want the plot to go- and that in itself is part of the fun. Decoding things is getting a bit easier though... look at the file extentions they're using along the way (CH01.php; clay01.php) as a hint-guide.
  21. For the record: In this challenge, Crazy Park Manager LOVES the VORTEX AT KINGS ISLAND. The specifications are this: TWO VERTICAL LOOPS, TWO SIDEWINDER LOOPS, and TWO CORKSCREW ELEMENTS. That means a total of six inversions. Immelmans, diving loops, etc. would NOT make it like Vortex, now would it? R.D. Games Forum Moderating Team
  22. That. Was. WEIRD. Dude, lay off of the hooch for a while. Please.
  23. To quote Bart Simpson: "WHOOOAAAAAAA!!!! BITCHIN!!!!" That's one -freaking- awesome looking Flyer there- I can only hope that one of those springs up in the USA soon- and FAST!
  24. Let's see: Watch 1 billion hours of a wedding that's rather unimportant to me about people I'll never meet at a great cost to the General Treasury, -OR- Get my gums scraped. My jaw is sore, but I think I made the right choice.
  25. ^ and ^^ Sniff... Sniff.... WAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!! R.D. "I'm only as good as Swiss Cheese, and not even Gruyere" Sussmann
