  1. R.D. is coming. Be afraid. Be VERY afraid. (And avoid Schwarzkopf rides, too. Just a heads up.) R.D.
  2. Robb- what's weird about that is that I had -very carefully- explained that I tend to be 'firmer' about the rules of English in chat a ways back... and then I found his 'I don't give a fuck' attitude in the recent parks' thread of "I don't want to make this a quality thread". Key word: Douchebag.
  3. A small part of me just died seeing the new 'sleds' with the individual seating and lap bars. For me, my first trip on Matterhorn was with my (now) husband a few years back, and I for one loved the ability to 'canoodle' on the lift hill (Kids, go look the word up.) Not to mention how the ride operated for 52 years without incident with seat belts, and conventional systems. Progress. But at what cost?
  4. I'm stealing this line. It's just that good. I mean -Schwarzkopf- good.
  5. I hear the sounds of WHEEEEK! WHHHHHEEEEEK! WHEEEEEK! in Anton Gardens... I wonder who's moving in? SCR154.BMP Anton Gardens prepares for it's latest addition... an old friend is moving in!
  6. MUCH BETTER NAME! And I no longer want to avoid the place in fear of getting stuck there for six hours!
  7. I'd perhaps take a look around Denver for another name... Yes, the mayor was important, but being one that -vividly- remembers the horrific old airport, it brings to mind crowds, broken things, pricey food, and nasty people! I'd look to the mountains, or other reference points in the city itself: Centennial Park has a good ring to it, as does Colorado Park.
  8. OK: Best comment of the day- in so many ways, too. But you're wrong. There's far ore American Idol contestants, which would be a much better ride structure than X factor contestants. And why doesn't it have Susan Boyle at the top of the lift singing?!?!?
  9. Ugh... "Stapleton" is NOT a good name for a park- especially with the citizens of Denver. Too many connotations to the old, miserable, overcrowded and nasty airport therein.
  10. Beyond Awesome... In this year of '300 days - 100 coasters' for me, I -might- have a shot at this contest! THANKS BIG MIKE!
  11. Depending on how you 'look' at the track system/structures, you could go either way: Tone it down, and you've got a decent 'Kiddie-Mouse', or ramp it up, and you've got a decent compact forcemonster. Nice layout, BTW.
  12. I.E. If two idiots show up with Mr. Six masks and put a voodoo on the ride. Oh wait, now there are three idiots that might show up with Mr. Six masks I will threaten you as I did Bryan and Jake over this one... Break a ride, pay the consequences. I'm sure Jo would be -happy- to help me out with this task, and for that matter, I do have nice, dense steel canes to work with....
  13. 1.) People who let their badly behaved pets out in a park without a leash- you know, the ones with the dirty faces and sticky hands- they are called 'children' 2.) 'Guests' who cannot help but find some way to break a basic rule of conduct: Standing on the rails in lines, abusing the handicrapped access (This one REALLY pisses me off: "I've got bad ADD, so I need to abuse the ADA laws..."), throwing crap off of moving rides, or trying to get little Billy onto the coaster by having him stand -extra straight- to fit into the rides' height restrictions 3.) Parks with dreadfully slow operations on key rides (SFA, anyone?) where it can take 4 minutes to load a 45 second dispatch ride. (And I'm handicrapped, mind you- and I'm STILL faster getting onto/off of a ride than the GP is...) 4.) Food service outlets that are dirty, have trash piled on trays waiting for cleanup, out of condiments, or park food that is COLD. (See also: DorneyPark, Cedar Point a few seasons back, and the aformentioned SFA). 5.) People who don't look where they are walking. Yes, it's a beautiful Schwarzkopf coaster you're ogling, but LOOK WHERE YOU ARE WALKING, PLEASE. There are other people in the park OTHER THAN YOU. 6.) Please, please, PLEASE go to the loo before getting into queue. That Bean, onion and Pepper burrito is NOT something the rest of us standing near you want to experience. Use the can before going in line. 7,) If you're not feeling too peaky, don't ride the 10 inversion inverted wood shuttle coaster with LIM Launch. We don't want our day slowed down by your losing the aformentioned Bean, Onion and Pepper burrito all over the platform. 8.) People who bitch about the weather on a rainy/cold/hot day. You knew what the weather would be that morning, and if you didn't, you shouldn't be allowed unsupervised in public. Ever. 9.) Unless I know you, I don't care about your three cars, your house, etc. Shut up. If I want to talk to you, I'll give you a topic. I also don't care about your opinion on a parks' operations. If I want your opinion, I'll give it to you. 10.) People who -SWEAR- that JLo was in the park today, or that Eminem just gave you the finger waiting for Batman. Really, folks? Come on now. 1.) The celebrity you're now saying is in the park probably wasn't there- and 2.) They'd like to enjoy the park without you pointing them out. (I know, I'm a grumpy park guest... but I think I've got reason TO be as of late.)
  14. A dose of reality-check for parks with bad stations: My list? I'll keep it to the worst offenders: Goliath at SFoG: Superelevated platform, long steep ramps to get to it, no holding area outside of the exit, and have to go through a crowded, cluttered gift shop to get to it. HersheyPark's Wildcat: Steep ramps, tight switchback corners, and no crowd control along said ramps- with people standing around looking stupid, blocking traffic. Grizzly, KD: Ramps are crowded, gates swing outward into a small area, and no place to go to get out of the way from the oncoming stampede of people NOT paying attention. Honorable mentions go to SFoG twice: Dahlonega Mine Train Log Flume Both for having -stairs- everywhere. Now I can hear people say "What does this have to do with PLATFORMS?" Well, look at it from my perspective: The handicrapped people such as myself tend to have a very different view of how a coaster's platform looks. For me, the ideal platforms are designed where there is no congestion, clutter, and places where the handicrapped can -easily- stand/roll to the side out of the way of people exiting the ride. In some cases, parks have added elevators to access the platform easily- and without the difficulty of long, drawn out or steep ramps. (I do have a list of 'best platforms' myself... and both HersheyPark and Disney score -very high- on that list...)
  15. Having had my first Eurofighter experience at SFoG this year, I can say that it was nucking futz- and not a bad experience at all (Save the 'dump you out onto the gravel' heartline inversion on DDD...) Smooth, fast, and (at least for me) terrifying, it's a good combination of what will really scare the crap out of people. Having seen the pictures, layout, etc. for SW7 though, I can say this ride looks amazing- and in so many ways. It's like they've squeezed a $10.00 coaster on a $2.00 plot- and if this layout is anything to be trusted, it's going to be a pile of twisted, warped steel going in so many directions- making the layout confusing. In short, I think Alton Towers has ordered a fantastic looking ride, at least from these permit applications, and I think a good fit for the parks' needs.
  16. StarPort 05- Hong Kong's Space Mountain (It's the Disney 'term' for it; StarPort 75: WDW, StarPort 77: Anaheim, etc.) As for 'stack-less' ops- Pay full attention to the green lights- and be ready to go across the board...
  17. So far I've enjoyed running StarPort 05 and Saw: The ride. X:/no way out is rather 'touchy' to get to run right, and can be downright fussy all around. The key to a few of the rides is pay attention to where your trains are- and for F*s sake, don't let the trains stack. (Hopefully we will see a Schwarzkopf Portable Looper in the mix in the near future...)
  18. Let's see... Birks (Duh) Three pairs of Doc Martens (One 20 hole, One 13 hole w/steel toes, one pair of tassled loafers) Two pairs of Chucks (Black and white, also a 'duh') One pair chequered Vans (Ditto above...)
  19. Greezed Lightnin' (Astroworld; ShuttleLooping Mk1b) is currently dismantled and for sale for around 250K. Well preserved, though. Greezed Lightnin' (SFKK; ShuttleLooping Mk 1a) Is SBNO, but will need some -serious- overhaul to return to operating status. If it is like her other Weight Drop siblings, the lack of repair and upkeep on the ride will be (Sadly!) her 'nail in the coffin'. (The weight drop models tended to collect water in the 'tube' over time- leading to rust issues. The Flywheel (ShuttleLooping MK1b) models did not- and thus have lasted longer.)
  20. Hi! Welcome back to TPR. Please read your inbox- as duplicate accounts are not usually allowed. I'm locking your thread till we can resolve this- and afterwards, we will be happy to open it again. R.D. Games Forum Managmenet Team
  21. Jon- login after you regiester... it works fine (And the StarPort 02 simulation is a BITCH to learn....)
  22. Minor expansions- and some changes to the park: The new expansion did take some of the stress off of a few key rides in the park, and began to spread people better, eliminating the 'It's Too Crowded Here' messages that were popping up. The new coaster was an instant hit, and has run quite well in the new area, and allowed for the removal of the existing SpeedRacer coaster. Further work had already started as of the last update. First, simulators would be a must for the the theme area, especially since they tie in quite well with the 'space' feel of the area. They also allowed the construction of a new food/gift area as well by using all the space in the new building to the best advantage of the park. SCR142.BMP The general layout and base attractions to the SimEx building are added. In order to balance ride capacity with demand, and for that matter I like them too much, I re-installed a Flywheel Drive (Mk 1B) Shuttle Loop from... Schwarzkopf. Occupying the plot of ground opposite the SimEx building, the flow to these attractions is quite good- and it has helped the over-stress of other rides in the park as well. SCR143.BMP The new coaster, and the completed SimEx building. SCR144.BMP The new coaster gets a set of coverings, and the new section gets landscaping and other useful things. Once these new attractions are opened up for the public, I turned to the front of the park again. With Infinity showing it's age (and a drop in attendance) I decided it was time to replace it with a permanent attraction. The keys to this part of the expansion was a ride with good capacity, could fit in a restricted plot, and could be adapted to fit into the area well. The result was a Splashwater falls ride: Moonshiner Falls. This ride combines a ride through portion (Into the 'moonshiners' world) with the thrills of a Splashwater falls ride. It also squeezes itself into the same plot of ground that Infinity was built on- but offers a much higher capacity overall. The results are (for my needs) perfect- and fill in that corner with a blockbuster ride and plenty of capacity to spare. SCR145.BMP Introducing Moonshiner Falls, from the fine folks at Intamin A.G. SCR146.BMP Trees, theme elements, and the queue/exit paths are added, and final touches are added to the ride itself. Here's a view of the park prior to the second expansion... SCR147.BMP Park Overview. In another 'balancing act' I wanted to continue to use the Fort area for further attraction expansions. The size of the original building area was a bit too small to 'shoehorn' in another major ride, so I expanded it out, and added another flat, as well as the new Muenster River Log Co. flume. SCR148.BMP Fort expansion begins. SCR149.BMP The bunker is expanded: this one has fewer 'kinks' in it due to the future theme area behind it; I'm trying to make sure the park doesn't become too much of one area. The first attraction, the Fort Fling is added. I'm still trying to 'theme up' the rides a bit, other than the 'basic' stuff that's there right now. In the not too distant future, this will be fixed, hopefully with the desired results. SCR150.BMP The Fort Fling, the expansion Midway area and the future Log Flume site. Building the Log flume for me was a lot of fun; I tend to enjoy building them- and have not ruled out adding a second one to the park in the future. Using the space provided (And allowing for the ParkLink trains access) proved challenging, but in the end worked out quite well all around. SCR151.BMP Muenster River Log Co. before... SCR152.BMP And after. Structures, trees, a tunnel as well as the 'theme fix' to the Fort walls is done. Upon opening the new flume, the response was immediate- and intense. Fortunately, the ride moves a lot of people through quickly, and is long enough to garner it a good thrill at the same time. Overall, I'm quite happy with the park- and it's new additions, plus the general 'feel' of the park. It's taken a LOT longer than any of my previous parks has, but in the end I think it's worth it. The next major expansion is already in the works, and will fill in some of the 'gaps' in the existing park, as well as adding a new theme area behind the Fort- and towards the Main Midway area. Other changes are already planned (The Mine train, for example, will be redesigned and changed a bit) as well as some new entities are in the planning phase. One thing is for sure, nothing is ever set in concrete in this park! R.D.
  23. Dark ride with heavy effects: Dr. Who, while a brilliant themed idea, would need to push the envelope for dark ride technology. Perhaps put Harry Plopper to shame- and with a more 'classic' theme.
  24. Number of times I spotted Laura, your "stalker"... 8. The park with the Wildcat Mk.65 (From our Lord and Savior, Anton Schwarzkopf) you were on: Keanesburg Park, in Keanesburg, New Jersey.
