  1. OK: You have 12 days to re-do the scenario/tracks, and you're giving up now? Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. CPM will be sure to overlook your park during the voting now. I don't like defeatism attitudes: We have TWO entries already who have beaten the goals, so perhaps you should re-try your game a second time. Other people have already figured out the 'winning formula' and it's MUCH easier than you're giving it credit for... Not to mention... you aren't eligable for voting- you MUST GET 2000 guests in your park- that is a NO EXCEPTION RULE. R.D. GFMT
  2. Are you ready for... SNOWMAGEDDON??? SCR98.BMP SNOWMAGEDDON!
  3. Even I'm playing the challenge- not for points or for a win- but for the fun of it. Here's Holiday Land in the 2nd year. SCR97.BMP DoubleLooping in the Background, and you can see the park's basic outline starting to take shape...
  4. About as long as the departing technicians from GCI/GG to hear the safety speech on their flight back to the USA.
  5. Hmmm.... Thinking this might be a good place to whore at in May. Having had the curse of not being able to ride a Vekoma RollerSkater, this might be one way for me to sneak up on one without it being closed for repairs, or under restoration.
  6. Sigh... poor Gnomes. Gnomes, like Trolls and Dwarfs have mystical, magical powers to confound and confuse those who don't understand the power of them. Many times, said Gnomes in statue format inhabit the gardens, lawns and front stoops of houses throughout Europe. Often, in this format, they protect the owners of their domicile, as well as giving a warm and friendly greeting. (Busch GARDENS has GNOMES in it- on a strange and magical Journey through the black forest. Makes perfect sense to me.)] And thanks for posting the video, too!
  7. FLW is always to me one of the finest creators of modern archetechture (Last year for my B-day, the BF took me to the Marin County Civic center- my 25th FLW building!) But there's something about Saarinen... Washington Dulles International Airport- Look so much better than it is to fly through it... And lest we forget: TWA's Jetport of the Future- featuring the classic lines and TWA Logo of the 40s-2001. (Flight Wing One, the first jetbridge addition opened with the terminal- Flight Wing Two was added at the dawn of the 747 age at TWA.
  8. Agreed completely. Parks need to remember that trees and such are very valuable property additions- and leaving them up adds to a ride's ambiance as well as to the 'thrill' factor to said ride. And this does look like a nifty junior coaster- Gerstlauer has finally found a ride to break the Vekoma/Zierer 'cookie cutter' approach to these rides. I can only hope that this style catches on- as it would make for a wonderful- if not thrilling- addition to many smaller parks needing something with a bit of 'oomph' to their ride lineups.
  9. Concrete, when exposed to water doesn't normally face the types of strain that you're thinking of. Think of it this way: The structures are much (if not identical to) like a bridge for a highway: A highway bridge faces lots of constant and repeated weight, as well as heavy traffic crossing over many rivers around the world. Their footers, albeit on a much larger scale, face the same sort of impact that a coaster does- and often with the coaster having less direct impact on the footers themselves. Also, look at coasters that have had water-immersed footers for years now: Anaconda, at KD, or Raven at Holiday World (Was waiting for when I could slide a reference in for that one!) where the footers are not only exposed to water, but also freezing water/tempertures for long durations of time. To my knowledge, they have yet to replace any of Anaconda's footers- and If my aged memory is correct, HW hasn't had to alter or replace footers on the lake turn for Raven. HP with the previous 'creekside' coasters has ended up building bridges for the rides (Comet's crossing, sdL's lift and trimbrakes, the funky supports for Great Bear) but with SkyRush took the initiative to not only put the footers in the creek, but also put flood containment and control systems into the creek at the same time- which will not only benefit the park during the heavy rains, but also to control the creek downstream.
  10. Pssst.... Don't tell that to both B&M Vortex Standups, or for that matter Georgia Scorcher- they might hear you!
  11. DON'T SAY THAT WORD!!!!! (Aquatrax... NO more aquatrax!)
  12. That's been something there's been discussion on for a while now: The creek that runs through there floods regularly (See also: this fall and winter) and it's not inconceivable that water could go that high up... Once the creek does fill again, there will be a hefty amount of concrete exposed- but not as much as you'd think!
  13. A pleasant reminder: Don't double/triple post. Once every 24 hours if there are no responses to your posts. Thank you, R.D. GFMT
  14. Read the first post: This is a WINTER challenge, so putting in elements that aren't part of winter/ The holiday period is a no-no. R.D. GFMT
  15. "Preview means ONE or TWO shots. Not your entire park. Please confine all Preview Thread items to one or two pics. " Nin, That was a reminder for the people who a.) Don't have a thread already dedicated to their subject/parks and b.) for the people who were putting up 12-25 pictures in here. Next time, please think before posting something like that. Braz has a thread for which he can post in. The others have not.
  16. IMPORTANT UPDATE! Due to an accidental error in the game (A ride from one of the add-on packs was added in) there has been a minor modification in the scenario: If you've already downloaded and are building with it, nothing will change game-play wise at all. If you have any issuse, please feel free to PM me. R.D. GFMT
  17. You can install track underground, and build tunnels- that's OK. Make sure when you're uploading to the exchange you use the "TPR CHALLENGE" identifier for your tracks AND park, and that you put in the 'About' section "TPR Track challenge" R.D. Games Forum Management Team
  18. You can remove trees- But you can't change the theme of winter... R.D. GFMT
  19. Just shot from HersheyPark, courtesy Matt Walborn- If there was -any- doubt to this element being a Stengel Dive, this will now end it. EDIT: Also from Matt Walborn: Side profile of the Stengel Dive... PANT PANT PANT PANT PANT PANT PANT
  20. As always Braz, your layouts are simply sumptious in every way- the Dinn Woodie is -beautiful, and perhaps even wouldn't have the 'Shuffle' that his coasters tended to develop later in life. I am curious as to the Arrow you've got featured... How about more shots???
  21. You may use the scenery that comes with the Track Challenge- HOWEVER, if a "Desert" theme area suddenly appears (I.E. YOU RETHEME THE SNOW) You will be disqualified. Platforms and other structures are allowed- but must be fit to the 'winter' theming.
  22. The day somebody doesn't whine incessantly in the Bay area is the day hell freezes over. There is -always- something to offend people there, no matter how small, trivial, minute or inconsequential... Ayup. And now they can't get any sun, and that they have to deal with some bizarre complaint that nobody every has heard before, but their lawyers said they have it. Actually: The case of the GCI coaster being built was completely resolved... in 2008. However, Cedar Fair put the coaster on hold for fiscal concerns, and the initial permits for construciton expired. In order for them to build the new GCI, they will have to go through most of the application for noise/height variations again- from about 1/3rd the way through the process. Santa Clara can still derail the project during round two: They lost the vote in 2008 by ONE vote- and the SCCC is now made up of different members, so it's an uphill battle all the way (yet again.) In this case, however, the SCCC needs to be petitioned -heavily- in order to start considering the votes- and that may be a place where you, I, and everyone else should consider e-mailing the people on the SCCC board WHEN and IF the permit process begins the second time.
  23. Thanks Matt & AJ- Some details I tend to forget (more often than I'd like)
  24. Everyone: A reminder- Preview means ONE or TWO shots. Not your entire park. Please confine all Preview Thread items to one or two pics. R.D. Games Forum Management Team
  25. I've never been a big fan of Vekoma coasters due to the incessant roughness of most of their rides (Execptions apply) but these new restraints and trains look far more 'rider friendly' than previous versions... Perhaps SFoG should consider investing in a pair of these (Or at least acquiring new restraints) for Ninja??
