The "Preview" Thread

I'd refine the mine train a bit: Reason? That litle bump after the downward turn would be quite painful, considering you're accelerating into that element. Try this- instead of downward rt 180 helix, make it upward, and then drop the train into the tunnel- it will be a LOT smoother and provide a controlled double-down element into the tunnel. -

Isn't it? I'm wondering if SyFy actually THINKS out the plotholes... or leaves them in for groups like us! -

What's your favorite Flat ride?
QueerRudie replied to FlyingScooter's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
One of the few flats I'll go on is an original Schwarzkopf Enterprise... and that's about it. I don't spin... as there's too much risk of a protein spill... -

It seems to me the most intelligent actor in this film is the DOG. Bring on Tiffany vs. Debbie... at least then we'd get some Girl-on-Girl action, and Mickey Dolenz getting eaten... -

Possibly one of the better SyFy movies... but still has the requisite amount of dreadful lines, bad acting, and dead bodies... WIN! -

YAY!!! -
Not to be too mean, but... The coaster has been 'coming' since 2008... The water park addition has been coming since 2009. All of this was 100% true... THEN. Once again, I'm going to recommend something you're not going to like: But it will stop the pain when your fan-boy wishes come true... Don't take every single word from ONE statement as pure fact and the gospel. You'll not quite as hurt when your dreams don't come true.

I haven't laughed that hard in quite a while. Thank you. Agreed COMPLETELY! Someday, all fan-boys will realize their perfect park dreams are not appliciable at Great America. Never say never.... "Big Bad Wolf isn't going anywhere!" "They'd never remove Great American Scream Machine!" "Shockwave's too popular to be removed!"

Chadster's Vacation Adventures: Final Edition!
QueerRudie replied to chadster's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Wow- I'm exhausted reading this TR entry... as it's nucking futz. It's interesting to see the parks- but I think Epcot is not quite the same without Ellesbian's energy adventure and the cheesiness of "Listen to the Land". (I'm old-school, what can I say???). -
Worlds of Fun (WOF) Discussion Thread
QueerRudie replied to OzCatter's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Seriously, Cedar Fair will, in all likelihood, be spending millions of dollars at WOF next season. The Department of Justice has revised ADA regulations applicable to height of counters, width of pathways, and most notably, grade of sloped pathways. Instead of buying a new ride, the park is rumored to be spending the bulk of its cap ex budget on reprofiling its several hills. Money doesn't grow on trees. Be glad Cedar Fair is willing to spend the money to bring the park into compliance rather than just close it and redistribute the rides. Your "pissy mood" is unwarranted. As a handicapped person (Pediplegic) I'm very happy to see these changes coming to parks across the USA- but not necessarily the loss of a new ride/attraction. I'm very fortunate that I still can walk, but I can see the need for changes to a few parks- a unpowered wheelchair for some would be -impossible- to negotiate in a hilly area. Even the best parks have issues with accessibility on ramps, etc. (Goliath at SFoG for me was like climbing Mt. Everest...) and while I see a need for some parks to change things, it's not always easy to do. For the most part (with a -small- handful of exceptions) parks tend to do a great job at handicapped accessibility. The exceptions are far and few, but when they are bad, they're horrid: Stairs for me are a near impossibility- and ARE impossible to negotiate in a chair. It's these things that need changing. Having been to many parks both before and after I lost the full use of my legs, I can see some need for rebuilding ramps, etc. but I cannot see any changes to terrain and grading of hills within a park for access. HersheyPark as well as Busch Gardens do an exceptional job of telling you where you should- and should NOT- go within the park due to steep grades, elevation changes, etc. Those parks do it right. If a park feels the need to change pathways and terrain without planning out alternatives, that's their choice- but there are better ways to spend a park's money. -
Kennywood (KW) Discussion Thread

One down... 58 to go. Seriously though- that location was fine for a freefall tower, but it's kind of land-locked as far as anything other than a flat is concerned. If they're going after a high-thrill attraction, there is a limited stockade of rides that would fit the site. -

The new flume and wooden coaster look great- and fit the park's areas nicely. With a tunnel over that long straight section towards the lift, you'd have a real winner! -

Not this time around- There were less than 10 entries, so I felt that we didn't have enough for a second prize this time... That having been said, you'll have another shot at some NIFTY goodness coming up in the next week or so... R.D. GFMT -
Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
QueerRudie replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There's something about Chocolate parks and their love of a particular manufacturer... Europa has Milka and Mack, Hershey has, well, Hershey and Intamin AG. Not that I'm complaining or anything.... (I'm secretly fantasizing about a terrain Blitz coaster from them as their #4 Intamin....) -
Just like Kings Dominion's VOLCANO coaster by Arrow? Or Turbulence Tower at HersheyPark? There's one rule that is -universal and paramount- in the world of theme parks. Never say it WILL be anything... as that's the second that something else will be made. Parks have a LOOOooooong history of 'confirming' rides, then never building them- at all. Look at how many Premier Parks/SF parks ended up with coasters that "WILL be built here" and ended up being built elsewhere- or not at all (Dark knight anyone?) I agree that the best GUESS is that the GCI is coming... but never say WILL with regards to an unconfirmed by the park plan set. The park has been saying it WILL be coming now since... 2008. Kinda like the Flying Turns WILL open in 2009, er 2010, er 2011, er 2012... Yes, GA has the plans, YES they have SOME of the permits, but NO there is NO confirmation the GCI is coming to the park- yet.

The wooden coaster to me looks great- something that fits with a small/medium park's basis... But your flume needs some serious re-think... ASAP. The splashdown zones are FAR too short, and you're going to end up with riders being verrrrrry uncomfortable getting thrown into the next county out of the logs. I'd consider not only lengthening the ride (Yes, that means getting a longer platform, as well as lowering it down quite a bit but also extending the splashdown sections by a factor of 6. In addition, add in meandering sections, both at the top of the lifts and after the splashdown troughs- your guests will be MUCH happier in the end. R.D. -
If I can get rid of the headache (And finish the termination paperwork for an employee) in the next few hours, I'll be downloading/reviewing the parks from there- I'd like to see what they came up with for it.

I've yet to take a look at the parks myself- but there was an intentional spirit of the game that was this: 1.) Preserve the park's gardens- at any cost. 2.) Use the land wisely, efficiently, and without overbuilding to win the game. 3.) Make the park look attractive, without it being "Pretty Building and scenery Tycoon" 4.) Keep the spirit of the park in line with the rides- this is a JUNIOR park, not a 'Slip a B&M Hyper into the park because it's there" challenge. Keep those in mind when doing the moderator's choice award- as if they have ANY of those four ideals broken, they can't qualify for it. If nobody reaches that point, then so be it; we have only 8 entries, so I think that it's not really a requirement that we hand out a second BoC. However, the first choice winner's name and address need to be sent to me after they're announced- as I've got a BoC here spare.
