Photo TR: 22 Days in China with TPR
australianalex replied to cfc's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Great TR, Happy Valley Shanghai looks like an awesome park, and the coaster collection really does look great. Also, I think you'll find that the Spinning Coaster is - miraculously - actually a Zamperla and not a Golden Horse. That leaves the junior coaster as the only Chinese knockoff in the park. -
Best Compact Coasters

I love Eurofighters, but the only ones I've been on are Saw the Ride and Speed No Limits and neither are very compact. -
B&M vs Intamin
australianalex replied to alpengeistdude321's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
B&M. Though Intamin have made some amazing coasters that beat almost anything B&M has ever made, B&M coasters are consistently better. With the exception of some of their standup coasters, you can pretty much guarantee every B&M you ride will be a smooth, fun, reliable ride. Intamin have some fantastic coasters, but they also have some really crappy ones. -
Horrible Park Operations
australianalex replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
10 minute cycles on Arkham Asylum at Movieworld. Once a train full of riders arrives in the station. Step 1: Let riders off. Step 2: Let people in queue line through to air gates. (This could've been done while the ride was going through its course). Step 3: Once everyone is positioned behind air gates, let riders on. Step 4: Riders lower harnesses, but are told NOT to do up their seat belts. Step 5: A single ride operator does up everyone's seat belt and then double checks everyone's restraints. Step 5.5: If someone's harness is for some reason not on "right", unlock everyone's harnesses to adjust a rider's harness, then repeat step 5. Step 6: Finally let riders go. There was a very short queue for the ride, but it took 45 minutes due to these horrendous operations. Plus, the park was only running one train because they only HAVE one train! -
Underrated Coasters?
australianalex replied to Yero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The Swarm is underrated IMO. So many people on here have called it forceless, but I found it quite intense. -
Ride Bucket List
australianalex replied to Evanaj15's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
After seeing some pics and a POV of it, I have a strange urge to ride Phaethon, the Korean B&M Invert. Despite hearing that it's quite forceless, it looks like a really fun ride to me, I have no idea why. Another coaster I'll add to my bucket list is Olympia Looping. -
Best & Worst Refurbished Coasters
australianalex replied to sportscapper's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Worst - Revolution (SFMM), I know it was a while ago that it received the trims and OTSR's, but Schwarzkopf didn't build it that way. -

Am I the only one who thinks the Zamperla motocoaster with a lift hill in the first page looks awesome? Cant believe i never saw that on RCDB seeing as i check that site for new additions more regularly than I am proud of. -

Germany gets the best traveling coasters. Traveling Schwarzkopfs... mmmm.... Here the best traveling coaster we get is a Zamperla Spinner. -
Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

SOB was truly amazing visually. It was unbelievably huge. The next largest wooden coaster after it is Colossos at Heide Park, but even that doesn't seem as huge since it uses less wooden supports. SOB's supports created this enormous mass of wood. It really is a shame it was such a terrible ride to actually ride. -

Cool pics. Isn't Magic Mountain (the Vekoma looper) a lot less painful now that it's received the new anti-headbanging Vekoma trains? -

That Air Race looks beautiful! -
I'm on the "only if it's a super, major change" side. I'd only count a modification as a new credit if it was highly significant, such as Steel Phantom/Phantom's Revenge, Texas Giant/New Texas Giant and Rattler/Iron Rattler where the entire layouts were completely changed. With Hades, changing one element will definitely change the ride experience, but not enough to warrant a whole new credit IMO.

I love sharks too. I find them to be fascinating creatures. Snorkelling and wading with 6ft+ Sicklefin Lemon Sharks at Heron Island, QLD was certainly an awesome experience. I'd love to do a cage dive with Great Whites down in South Australia but I'll admit that I am somewhat nervous of the idea. When I was a bit younger one of my obsessions (I'd have a new one each year) was sharks, and I new pretty much all there was to know about the different species, genera etc. I'm a qualified diver and along with nudibranchs, sharks are my favourite things to see while diving. They're so intimidating and beautiful at the same time.

The "Pleasant/Unpleasant Surprise" Thread
australianalex replied to cfc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's interesting how those shows can shape the expectations of newcomers or someone who isn't as familiar with the hobby. There are quite a few that I looked forward to trying, and afterwards was left wondering what the hell kind of justification the producers of the tv show had for featuring the ride. It always seemed like it was the same handful of coasters too, with little variation. And along the same lines Megaphobia was the same way, unpleasant surprise after being hyped up on a TV show. While woodies do have their off days, I'm convinced the producers only picked Megaphobia because of the wackiness of sheep roaming underneath which looked good on TV. I almost forgot about Megafobia. I was expecting a really smooth, forceful ride with a ton of airtime but other than in the first car I found it rough to the point of being intolerable. The back seat was pure hell. -

Colossus at Thorpe Park. I was looking forward to a smooth, intense ride but instead I got a headache. The heartline rolls were smooth and intense, but the rest of the ride was just hell for me. Meanwhile, I was expecting Saw the Ride to be a real headbanger, but I really really enjoyed it! Sure, there was some head banging but the intensity and airtime made up for it and made it my favorite coaster at Thorpe Park. Another ride that surprised me on my UK trip was Revolution at Pleasure Beach Blackpool. I'd heard neutral to negative reviews of this ride and I was expecting an outdated, forceless, rough ride. Instead, I got an exciting, intense, smooth ride with some batcrap INSANE airtime in the back seat! -
Great video yet again, love the Intamin interview. I'm also quite happy to hear that Intamin most likely won't be adding inversions to their woodies, I think they're good enough with the awesome airtime they deliver and an inversion would be a bit unnessecary. Plus, with RMC and TGG doing wooden inversions and GCI being open and enthusiastic to the idea it I don't think it'll be long until wooden inversions aren't seen as being very unique or exciting anymore. I wish I'd thought to ask whether Intamin have had any interest in their woodies lately, because the world needs more of them! The Air Race video is making me really excited about the one coming to Dreamworld now. Looks like a really cool ride!
