  1. DLR versus WDW...Glad to say I will be at WDW next year to evaluate (despite a likely West Coast bias)!
  2. I've heard Universal Singapore has aimed to get open again sometime next year, and work has been progressing on the ride according to pictures from Luke and the Temple of Fun (a blog that I'm too lazy to link to).
  3. Gold Striker's video was pretty great..."TAKE THE TUNNEL!!!" "Whee! Half-tunnel!" "Gold Striker kicks some half-tunnel butt!"
  4. Normally, I don't have time for re-rides because 1) my family gets bored of coasters after a certain point in the day and 2) there are usually large crowds. There have been exceptions, however. -Was able to marathon CGA's Grizzly for about 10 laps on a Saturday in May once. That was quite a pleasant surprise; sure, it's not the best woodie in the world (or even the park), but I've found it quite re-rideable. -SCBB's coasters tend to be easy to re-ride...or at least they were when I went on a Wednesday during the last part of the school year. Undertow had a line of 5 minutes or so, and the op told me that "..this is the busiest it's been all week!" Unfortunately, some of my friends required a break from the Giant Dipper after several rides of insane laterals and airtime, but I still got in 5 Dipper rides that day! Ka-ching -Gilroy Gardens...nice park for young families. And the best part? It's virtually deserted! Got 5 consecutive rides on the mine train (Quicksilver Express) with some surprising air.
  5. I sure hope this doesn't delay construction...best of luck to the RMC crew in getting TC together!
  6. Steel/Overall Top 10 (I've been on some good woodies, but not any that particularly blew me away...) 1. X2 2. Tatsu 3. YOLO 4. Alpengeist 5. Xcelerator 6. Apollo's Chariot 7. SFMM Goliath 8. SFDK Superman 9. SFDK V2 10. Silver Bullet Wood 1. SCBB Giant Dipper 2. Gold Striker 3. GhostRider 4. Colossus...RMC, you make me happy 5. CGA Grizzly 6. SFDK Roar 7-10. N/A...wow.
  7. From an unexperienced person: -Busch/SW: BGW wins by default. Great park! -CF: Knott's. CGA is a good park with decent rides and scenery, but KBF has several rides better than anything at CGA (Xcelerator and to a lesser extent, Silver Bullet) and the Ghost Town awesomeness. -Disney: DL is still better than DCA...or is it? -SF: Only been to the CA parks, and they both have the "classic" SF service and clientele. However, the rides and slightly more evident (albeit not by much) attempts at theming give SFMM the edge. I am stoked, however, at the prospect of trying out SFGAdv or SFNE next year -Universal: Another win by default goes to USH. Frankly, I kind of went in with a jaded perspective and hence wasn't too impressed. Would enjoy another visit in the future, and both USO and USJ are on my bucket list. -Independent: SCBB, possibly being another lone finisher. I need to get out more :/
  8. I do think a drop tower would be a nice addition to the park; in fact, an ARM-Larson tower would fit almost perfectly in terms of height! However, one could argue that the location of CGA's Drop Tower and SCBB's Double Shot (relatively) near SFDK would mean that a drop tower is a less likely addition. For the record, I would love to try one of those ARM-Larson Super Shots
  9. But you can't go get a Double-Double animal-style right after riding Wicked Cyclone, now, can you? Ugh. I just have to rant about this... In-N-Out is the most overrated restaurant on the planet. I really think people like it just because they have been told "You have to think it's cool, and people on your Facebook page will think you're cool if you check in here." I lived most of my life with one ten minutes away from my house. I didn't dislike it, but I never understood why people went crazy for it. The burgers are not that amazing. They are "ok" at best. Shake Shack, Five Guys, Burger 21, The Counter all have better burgers. But I guess there isn't any bragging rights at those restaurants, are there? The awful pretentiousness of your average southern Californian "I'm better than you because I live here" a$$hat was one of the main reasons I had to get away from that terrible state. /end rant --Robb "I'd rather go to White Castle." Alvey I see what you're saying. Unfortunately, I'm actually a Central Valley "Why would you even live here?" (to quote your word, "a$$hat" ) type. And I secretly prefer other places too, but I don't really have a choice most of the time. Back to topic: Both look awesome. The end. EDIT: I would like to add that I sincerely apologize for derailing the thread...maybe I should just shut up now before I dig my hole any deeper.
  10. But you can't go get a Double-Double animal-style right after riding Wicked Cyclone, now, can you? Yeah...I don't blame you for hating this place. There's way too much YOLO-ness; heck, we have cities named Yolo and Weed
  11. /hug Their music is still my favorite after all these years. I just need to branch out sometimes...
  12. Sandro Silva & Arston - Symphony A bit more big-roomy than my usual tastes, but I like that this song's drop actually has a chord progression.
  13. Both rides look awesome: TC for that dueling aspect and the new elements, and WC for the general intensity. As much as I bet TC could be a Top 10 coaster, it looks like WC will be a bit more intense and thus potentially more awesome due to its compact layout and such. Of course, both are now on my bucket list. Figures...the season after I visit a park, they get some amazing new ride (Water Country USA and SFMM, I'm looking at you!)
  14. Plenty of flats fall into this category for me...and I'm not even 26 like the OP Rode Fireball at SCBB, and while I was fine on the ride, I came off with nausea and a bad headache. Roar at SFDK gave me a fairly bad headache as well last time, though I tend to get those often. I actually felt better after my first ride on Knott's GhostRider. There was also that one time when I went to BGW and felt awful after AC, Alpengeist, and Griffon due to poor dietary choices, but that's a story for another day
  15. Best: Apollo's Chariot has a completely out-of-the-blue dip right before the brakes. Anything with a decent helix or a couple of bunny hops is also pretty good in my book. Worst: I might have to say YOLOcoaster...great ride, and though the top hat has nice air, the brakes on the descent are a total buzzkill.
  16. DLR -2015: Some parade or something for the 60th. Fanboys hate it. -2016: Tomorrowland Tron-ish make-over announced. Fanboys hate it. -2017: Cosmetic touches. Fanboys mourn the loss of a cart where Walt bought popcorn. -2018: Nothing. Fanboys hate it. -2019: Third gate announced, so nothing for 2019. Fanboys commit mass suicide. Note: I'm only referring to a small group of the fanboys. You know exactly who I'm talking about.
  17. ^Hi. vIs going to Japan on the next TPR tour there!
  18. The most significant instance would probably be before my first Goliath ride; it had already received its infamous MCBR modification that practically stopped the trains right there. When was the last time you tried a new food dish?
  19. A certain other site reports that GS's chain broke; apparently they were planning on filming the ride but were informed of this occurrence. Hope it's back up soon!
  20. Four? The only two *RUMORED* coasters I've heard discussed for 2015 are Centurion/Fury 325 for Carowinds and the Valleyfair B&M invert (even thought those wouldn't necessarily happen in the same year). Which ones am I missing?
  21. A top GCI is quite marketable. Great America heavily markets Gold Striker and it is easily the park's most popular attraction. I think part of the reason why GS is so popular at CGA is because it's the first new coaster since 2001, which may have made it easier to market. That being said, I think a GCI or something of that nature would easily fill the void of a more traditional wooden coaster (I know Iron Rattler is a hybrid, but it does reuse segments of a wooden coaster's layout, so YOLO).
  22. The only removed rides I've been on are: -Hurricane at SCBB...still exists in plenty of forms, and while it was surprisingly intense, I lost no sleep over that one. -Maliboomer at DCA...that was an awesome ride. Probably the scariest thing I've ever done. -Star Tours 1.0...it was fun, but I like 2 better because of the randomized experience, which in the context of the story makes much more sense than all flights heading to the exact same places and encountering the same obstacles. Of course, there are plenty of defunct rides that would have been amazing. -GASM and Shockwave - Even though Viper beat me to a pulp, these are some historic rides. -Batman and Robin: The Chiller - saw about these in a book as a kid and dreamed of visiting SFGAdv...I've still yet to go there. -The Big Bad Wolf - Verbolten was awesome, but the nostalgia factor here is intense. -Drachen Fire - a very unique looking ride. -Hypersonic XLC - we still have Dodonpa, but this ride was certainly more accessible to Americans. -Too many classic wooden coasters to count - looking at turn-of-the-century postcards makes me wish I'd been able to experience the original golden age of roller coasters, especially at all of California's long-gone seaside parks. -Stealth, Invertigo, Tidal Wave/Greezed Lightnin', and Whizzer at CGA - granted, the first two of the rides mentioned here still exist at other CF parks, I'm not sure how soon I'll be getting out to Carowinds or Dorney to ride these. I also missed out on some likely comical experiences with friends on these rides. -SFMM's Flashback - just looked like a unique and intense ride. etc.
