  1. ^My thought exactly, I'm sure the new trains are not going to come with a low price tag. While I admit 10 million seems a bit high, who knows how much everything will actually be when you factor everything in. Also as far as paint goes, I wouldn't expect to see a new set of colors, I'm sure they're just planning to touch the ride up, if even that much.
  2. I tend to think Goliath Jr. is going get taken out, since it'll sit right in the middle of Thomas Town. Plus with Canyon Blaster right there, I mean the ride doesn't really do much... If it does stay I'd expect at minimum a new coat of paint.
  3. In a slight twist to my post I was at Walmart again tonight and suddenly the players are gone... Guess they were not meant to be out there yet.
  4. Bringing an old topic back to life... Last night while at Walmart I noticed that they had several Toshiba HD DVD players locked up in one of the displays. The tag with the price on it didn't have any player details, but sure enough the selling price was $198. I don't think it was actually for sale yet, but regardless all rumors of a HD DVD player under $200 are true. I'm wondering how long it will be before Blu-Ray can bring their price down and compete in that aspect with HD DVD. I perfer that format (bigger disk size will be nice when computer burners catch up) and there are more movies on Blu Ray. I'm hearing now that it'll be at least another two years before this format war is over, so at least for now I think I'm going to stand back and watch.
  5. I tend to think the SFMM one is going to be safe for a while... Even when they built the ride I thought that it would be temporary to some degree. I had always somewhat assumed that the entire area back there would be eventually be revamped and a new themed area with a coaster would be put back there. I figured at the time Psyclone would come out as well as Deja Vu. Looks like I missed on the order a bit, but I still believe that the back corner of the park is eventually going to be a spot for something major.
  6. If I end up participating in one the parties around here I plan to go as "The Reasonable Person."
  7. I doubt a fire would really flatten the park very easily. There are some areas that would burn, but remember much of the park in cement. If it burned I'd imagin Six Flags would wish to keep a presence in Los Angeles and it would be fixed. I remember working at the park during the Simi Valley fire back in 2003 and being able to see flames clearly coming over the ridge off in the distance. When you have a park surrounded by bursh close calls will happen.
  8. Glad to hear the fire is moving away. I found out the other day that the area I lived around in Canyon Country had been evacuated. Even though I'm in Texas I really feel for all the people back home.
  9. Just wondering but did Magic Mountain operate a normal day yesterday. I know the fire is burning in Canyon Country, but I'm sure the smoke had the be terrible at the park. College of the Canyons is closed today, and that's maybe a mile or so from the park, so I'd imagin the park is pretty smokey. In other news, I was watching the news out here (Texas) and I'm pretty sure that they have no idea that Canyon Country isn't located in Malibu... They kept talking about the ocean front view you have from Canyon Country. So all of you living out there, enjoy the appearent ocean view when the smoke clears. I just wish they had added the ocean view while I was living there!
  10. Don't skip out on Ninja, not the most thrilling, but it is a fun ride!
  11. I think Son of Beast turned the industry off in large part to becoming really innovative with wood.
  12. There looks like there is a small booklet on top of the mystery item. You should have looked at the over and seen what it is.
  13. I'm an unemployeed bum... Actually if you're curious most law schools limit the amount you work, and during your first year you're not allowed to work at all. So I'm enjoying a fun filled year living on nothing but student loans.
  14. By grounding your children you force them to use their mind to come up with innovative ways of getting around it. As a kid I became the master of finding loopholes in my parents punishments, and finding ways around. According years later to my Mom, it was through these actions that she figured someday I would become a lawyer.
  15. I wonder if this ride goes in the rumor location and the Petting Zoo is toast, while the park retheme Goliath Jr. to fit in better? Also I wonder if this is going to possibly spell doom for the random Waterslide that is back there.
  16. I'm a bit surprised to learn about that hour cutoff. For a long time my family had season passes and often we would go an hour or two before closing just as something to do. It wasn't that uncommon for people living around the park to do that. Just wonder but does the park still offer free parking at night? I think it was three hours prior to close you could park for free. So many countless times I would get there 2-3 hours before closing for just a few rides, since it was free fun.
  17. ^They'll be 0-6 after the Bruins take care of them this weekend.
  18. It looked like a first Gen freefall... Is my assumption correct?
  19. I've got to agree with the first generation freefalls giving the best falling sensation.
  20. ^Or a senator who preforms brain surgery on people who were injured in crimes committed on rollercoasters.
  21. Generally I try to add something of more insight and depth... However I've got to follow the masses... Wow. Just simply... Wow.
  22. I'll always hold that the most annoying group of people I've ever had was a group of coaster enthusiasts at SFMM while I was working there. I was working up on Samurai Summit at the time, and three men (wearing patch jackets and everything) came up to me and proceeded to ask me random questions for about 10 minutes. It was obvious that they were trying to stump the employee, because tthat wouldbe funny. It was actually nice in a way because I actually knew the answers, but at the same time I felt bad for the poor people I knew they did this too, who were making minimum wage, and were just trying to do their job for the day. Most common questions I got when I worked there... While on Samurai Summit I was asked at least 5 times a day if Ninja went upside down. When down at Carrot Club I got the same question several times for a variety of coasters. I also got asked if I knew where the entrance of Superman was a lot. People would see the tower and seemed to have a difficult time understanding that if they were by the tower they were nowhere near the entrance. Just throwing this out there, but while I always loved to answer questions (really I actually throughly enjoyed the human interaction) it was always terribly annoying when I would get one while I was busy running sound for a show. While the shows are mostly pretty easy, it does require you to pay attetion. I had a few people get upset when I wouldn't turn away from the show to help them. So if you see an employee hard at work (and at SFMM I promise there are only a couple), don't bug them, ask another less busy employee.
  23. To be fair, I've asked how big a pizza is before when I know the inch size. Typically I am careful to phrase the question as, "How many slices does at 16 inch pizza have."
  24. Years ago I was taking pictures inside of SFMM of X construction. The ride was at the point where you could see it from around the Panda Express area, but it was very evident that the ride wasn't done yet. Anyways a man comes up to me and asks, "do you know if that ride will be open later today"? I respond that I believe Viper has been open all day, to which he says, "No not Viper, the one behind it."? I mean I could understand it if the ride was finished and it was clear that it was possible it could open, say if it was testing... However about 3/4th's of the coaster was sitting the the right of Feedmill road. What got me about it was that he had to drive past the coaster while coming into the park, furthermore from our vantage point he could obviously see that the ride's life hill was only about three quarters of the way finsihed. I got asked many other dumb questions, but that one took the cake.
  25. As far as being a CSI, I've got a friend who is working towards it. He majored in MIMG (Microbiology, Immunolgy, Molecular Genitics) at UCLA, which is considered an extremely difficult major... As far as I know I believe it has one of the lowest average GPA's at the university for any major. He has since gone on and is working on grad work (I'm not sure what degree, I think it may just be a masters, but I could be wrong) at another university. Now he enjoys what he does, but I'm sure he'd tell you that he has had some mind numbingly boring classes. Just because his classes are boring though, doesn't mean that he dropped them, to take something exciting. I love history, I got my B.A. in the subject. However I took some classes that were so dull that I'm pretty sure sitting there doing nothing for an hour would have been more exciting. The point is, there are many things in the world that are boring. Going out to become a CSI, or a rollercoaster designer, or any other job you can think of is going to have aspects that you find boring. It's one of those things that you've just got to deal with. I hope this job works out for you, and even if you spend 7 1/2 hours sitting on a bench looking at your shoelaces, deal with it!
