  1. I'm not sure yet, with finals right around the corner I might stay home and just do something with the girlfriend. There is still a chance however we pack up and I make the 6 hour drive to my parents place.
  2. I had picked up well over a dozen rides on Goliath (SFMM) opening day, it was raining so there were no lines. The Flashback one I mentioned eariler, I should note that it was not 60 (60ish, I don't remember how many I actually got) rides stright. I actually did that in two or three different chunks. I got 10-15 stright rides on Ninja when I was doing a filming for the Discover channel... Everything was good after a few rides, and then their machine decded to break so we had to retape the segment.
  3. Many years ago I picked up somewhere in the ballpark of 60 rides in a day on Flashback at SFMM. Why you ask? Frankly because I could.
  4. ^^Jason Bourne could take Jack Bauer in a fight any day!
  5. I'm sure there will be some type of plastic shell... If you've ever seen video's of X testing before it came to SFMM (a small part of it ran at the Arrow factory) it didn't have any of the plastic coverings.
  6. ^I was going to say that those do look like a farily substantial change. Now of course nobody will really know if they make the ride better until it's had a chance to open and run for a while... I'm curious how much these new trains weigh in comparison to the old ones.
  7. Acting like towards a cast member sounds like a good way to get yourself kicked out of the park, and could even in some situations be viewed as assault. The ride operators are only doing what they think is best (in most situations) it's not right to verbally attack them like that.
  8. For the most part (X being the current exception) I wouldn't expect rides to begin to get new colors completely. Leaving a coaster its original colors help keep the ride recognizable, which is going to be important for the parks.
  9. It's a picture of the old Soapbox Racers... Basically I just took one stright from the online archive that you can get through the site, so it shows an complete lack of effort on my part.
  10. As far as this ride not being the biggest or fastest, it might still end up being fun. People used to love the Soapbox racers, and those were (these stats are off the top of my head, so they might be a little off) only 1750 feet long, had a max speed of 30 miles per hour, and I can't believe that they had a drop of more then 40 feet. The ride wasn't the most thrilling, but it was fun none-the-less. This coaster could very possibly be the same situation, not the most thrilling, but offering a fun ride. Over at SFMM my favorite ride has always been Ninja. It holds no records, isn't even that thrilling, but it's always just been such a fun ride in my opinion. Hopefully this ride will provide some fun.
  11. Ninja has a bunch of "part donors" now with the XLR8 trains sitting in the back of the park. I was also under the impression Viper used to have four trains, I guess I was mistaken, but I do recall a fourth train as well.
  12. They painted parts of Viper a few years ago right before X opened. I didn't think the ride looked that bad, and again it's only been a few years since it last got paint. Also am I the only one who actually enjoys that whole industrial, unpainted, look of Superman. Sure it might be ugly, but I've grown used to, and dare I say fond, of the colorless tower.
  13. Chris, look over to Ultimate Rollercoaster, they had a great history of amusement parks on there. Not the best source in the world, but I don't think you're going to find a whole lot better then that... BTW: Glad to see that "Bench: The Ride" is still being kept alive after all these years!
  14. Not sure how many of you are interested in this kind of stuff, but the Frontier hotel in Las Vegas was imploded last night. Overall pretty decent show (though I wish they had waited until Jan 1st, when I'd be there to watch) with plenty of fireworks. I'm curious to see if anybody here has an interest in hotel construction (or in this case distruction). I've always had an interest in how hotels are built, and more actually more interestingly how they're taken down. And just for fun, has anybody here ever gotten to experience watching one of these buildings come down in person? Finally if you're curious about the carnage after the implosion check out this site: http://www.leavinglv.net for some good pictures of the process.
  15. I'm going to join the crowd that says wait to ride it. I highly doubt this is going to be the most thrilling coaster in history, however I believe that it is possble that ride might actually be fun. Thinking back many years ago, Knotts had the Soapbox racers. If I recall the ride had a small drop, a top speed under 35 (check RCDB for actual stats) and was less then 2,000 feet long. Not exactly a thrilling ride by any means, however it still remains as one of the most missed attractions from the park! Give this ride a chance, it may end up actually being a fun coaster.
  16. I love to make the occasional trip out to Vegas. I've always loved going to that city, and now that I'm old enough it is much more fun then it was when I was a kid.
  17. I think a B&M Hyper would fit very well in KI. As others have said its been much too long since the park last got a major steel coaster.
  18. 1. Silver Bullet 2. Top Gun (PGA) 3. B: TR (I've been on a few of these, so this is not a specifc one, just the clone in general). Sadly those are the only B&M inverted coasters I'd had a chance to try.
  19. I'm not sure where that picture was taken, but there are several areas of X where you can get great shots of the ride, without breaking rules. Again not saying that he did or didn't just saying it's possible... I did actually have a strange question however. All of these pictures of X that were possibly taken in places where guests aren't allowed got me thinking. I've got a bunch of pictures of X from some very interesting angles, all around the coaster (as in those forbidden places where people aren't allowed). During the coasters media day a group of about 10 of us (I do tend to remember that there may have been people from this site who were there) were taken on a tour of the coaster, and had the chance to get some very cool pictures all around the ride. If you guys are interested I could try to dig them up (they're buried somewhere on a CD with the rest of the stuff from my site) and post a few.
  20. ^ I'll echo that. One of the things I've come to hate about law school is the number of people who are going just because there is money in the career, and no other reason. Yes the money is nice, and it is necessary considering the investment (I'm going to a cheap school and it'll cost me upwards of $100,000 in the end) that needs to be made, however to base your entire life on how much money you're going to make is not going to make you a very happy person.
  21. Interesting... So is this just basically, "Lets slap the paint on and see what looks good" method?
  22. Personally I enjoy Thanksgiving more than Christmas... Sadly this year I have finals a week after Thanksgiving, so it still remains to be seen what I'm going to be doing that day.
