  1. I place people into one of three categories: People whom I like. People whom I'm neutral towards. People whom I dislike. Most people fall into the last category. All jokes aside, once you get out of high school the whole "group" thing does diminish to a large extent. Granted many people, myself included, has a core group of friends, even well beyond the end of my high school years.
  2. I think the trains and track on Flashback both had their problems, but I always liked the concept of the ride.
  3. ^^Wait will ths stuff for Jokesters be gone or will Flashback be gone?
  4. Speed has always been the problem on Flashback as far as I understand. If that is the case, then it could possibly be problems with the design itself, in which case trains might not help that much.
  5. Cutting out Soda really does make a huge difference. I dropped about 10 pounds in the matter of a week or two a year or so back when I cut out Soda. I only drink it now when I go out to eat, once a week or so.
  6. - What board do you read first? Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys. - How often do you visit? Every day, once a week, NEVER! It depends on the day and how much work I have. I can visit several times a day if I'm doing something that lends itself to procrastination, on the other hand I can easily go several days without a visit at all. - How many pages through each board do you read? (meaning do you read just the first page of topics or multiple pages?) Generally only certain topics, I never really plunge into the older pages. - Are there certain types of posts you read more than others? I read largely depending on people who post. For example, if it is somebody from back in the days of RRC, I'm more likely to read their post. I know I should read all topics, but I'm typically limited on time, so I only read the authors whom I like. - Do you do anything else besides reading the forum (chat room, profile, searching, main site photos, etc) Not really - Tell us anything else you want about your TPR visits! Best rollercoaster forum I've ever seen. Keep it up!
  7. On a seperate issue, any idea how much the ride (the 1st gen freefall) is going for?
  8. Hotel demolition. Not something I've been into for a very long time, but I find something very interesting about watching old hotels (namly ones on the Vegas strip) get removed. Same to some degree with old rides at themeparks, in a way removal can be as interesting as construction. On that note, I wish there were some pictures of the actual removal (not the aftermath, I mean the coaster actually coming down) of Psyclone.
  9. I agree with the person who said that they're trying to bring everything under a single roof... However they seem to rebrand a lot!
  10. When I moved to Texas one of the more shocking things was that I got asked in a resturaunt if I wanted smoking or non-smoking... Considering I was a kid when they enacted the no smoking in resturaunts law in CA, it was surprising to get asked this.
  11. It seems like Six Flags is attempting to define a direction in terms of SFMM right now, but they're just not sure what that is. The more pressing problem is the question of what is going to happen to the park in meantime. I believe I'm in the minority now that SFMM should remain a thrill park. Now when I say this I don't mean that they should be adding 400 foot looping aquatrax coasters every year, rather they should focus on making a thrill park more family friendly. I'd love to see the park add a couple of family coasters! Continue to add coasters, but tone them down to the point that the whole family can ride. Of course the park can always decide to add that huge looping aquatrax, track jumping coaster, but again this should be done in moderation. Don’t abandon the thrill park roots, rather become a “family thrill park.” In terms of the flat ride problems, this is a serious problem. Flat rides in many cases are a lot more family friendly, because much of the family is more willing to ride them. I've seen many times where you'll have a family member refuse to get on any coaster, but then will happily climb onto a flat ride that may be more intense. The park could also use some better dining options as well as a general revamping of many of the shows and facilities. In terms of this current rumor that the park is going to basically radically try to change direction... I just can't believe this, there is just too much being rumored. I'm not going to touch on the removal of more coasters, as I could go on a long time about why that would be a bad idea, especially removing a coaster that is fairly iconic of the park. The one that really grabbed me is that several of the parks current flat rides are listed as being in danger of removal. Jet Stream is in danger of being removed??? So lets think about Six Flags logic for a second... They want to build a family park that can compete with Knott's (or so I'd assume, the mouse down in Orange county is far out of reach), and there plan of attack is to start ripping out the remaining family rides they have? Yeah I know when I'm deciding to go to a park I stop and think, "Hmm... Well park A has added a new ride this year, but park B has removed 6 rides this year! Woot deconstruction rocks!" Basically to sum all of this up, I can't figure out what the park is attempting to do here. The rumors coming out are so contradictory of each other that it has become impossible to find any type of direction for the park. On one hand there is the strong pull for efficiency, making the park smaller and more manageable, on the other hand there is a thrust to become a family park, and finally now it seems that there is a movement to become strictly a kid’s park. Five kiddy areas in my opinion seem like overkill. One of the things I liked about Thomas Town is the location, keeping everything central. My argument is that you're going to (according to this rumor) have a park with 4 children’s areas, almost no flat rides or anything remotely friendly for the entire families, and 11 rollercoaster’s? What do they plan to accomplish with this? Families are going to still head down to Disneyland, SFMM will not really ever be able to pull the families away from there. The core group of thrill seekers is not going to continue to come out one for the many new kid areas. So basically the park is going to alienate everybody. Focus on the family, not just the thrill seekers and kids. Build some family friendly coasters. Add some more flat rides, of differing intensities. But begin removing attractions just to replace them with children’s areas? Bad idea. Six Flags is like a hyperactive blind kid in glass store. They needs to be careful or they're going to knock something over and break everything, good and bad, that the store has to offer.
  12. Heaven by Bryan Adams.
  13. If Thrillride.com was still around I bet this would be the "Whopper of the Week."
  14. ^Wth everybody becoming deathly terrified of trans-fats and basically fat in general I'd stay away from fast food. Nintendo isn't a terrible idea, but the whole video game market seems risky to me, many years ago (granted I was like 13-14) I though Dreamcast was the greatest thing since sliced bread, appearently nobody felt the same. Not sure about investing in a beer company... That seems somewhat interesting. This thread s really making me want to start investing!
  15. If I had the money I'd be putting some towards alternative energy right now. Oil is going to peak (and begin to decline) in the next several years, and that is going to drive a huge amount of investment into figuring out what we do next. Basically alternative energy is going to become something of a fact of life in the next 10 years, it would be nice to get in on the ground floor. As of right now I don't have any investments. I'm living on student loans so it's impossible for me to invest. I've thought about buying myself a single share, just so I can begin to get a feel for how the Stock Market works, so when the money is there in a few years, I can begin actually making some investments.
  16. Wow... I did just place the Spanish American war in the middle of California... That's what happens when we don't look back over our facts before posting something! Yeah I'll take your word that the war wasn't settled in the Newhall pass, something of significance did happen there, but I can't remember what for the life of me. My speciality was in Constitutional history so mexican American war is a bit out of my comfort bubble. Again sorry for the mistakes.
  17. Alright for some really interesting things that you could careless about when it comes to Santa Clarita... First there was a decent size Spanish American war battle fought near a hill in Valencia... Today that hill is Samuri Summit. Secondly under the 5-14 interchange is where I believe (I could be wrong, and I really have no intentions of looking this up) the peace agreement was reached in the above war. To be fair though, not much history in that area to really tour that would be much fun... There is a train that FDR rode that is sitting over in Newhall.
  18. I wonder if Circus Wheel will every actually come out. It's not the first time I've seen a ride look as though it was on the brink of death, just to end up staying in the park. Anybody recall a few years ago when it was basically a sure thing that Atom Smasher was going to be removed? The ride is still (at least last time I checked) there. Is Scrambler still in the park? I tend to recall that ride having a tree fall on it and it was strongly rumored that it was going to come out. I never did actually end up finding out what happened with that.
  19. ^I'm sure that's the idea, however only time will tell how realistic of a goal that is.
  20. Looks like Circus Wheel is also listed on there.
  21. ^My thought exactly, I'm sure the new trains are not going to come with a low price tag. While I admit 10 million seems a bit high, who knows how much everything will actually be when you factor everything in. Also as far as paint goes, I wouldn't expect to see a new set of colors, I'm sure they're just planning to touch the ride up, if even that much.
  22. I tend to think Goliath Jr. is going get taken out, since it'll sit right in the middle of Thomas Town. Plus with Canyon Blaster right there, I mean the ride doesn't really do much... If it does stay I'd expect at minimum a new coat of paint.
  23. In a slight twist to my post I was at Walmart again tonight and suddenly the players are gone... Guess they were not meant to be out there yet.
  24. Bringing an old topic back to life... Last night while at Walmart I noticed that they had several Toshiba HD DVD players locked up in one of the displays. The tag with the price on it didn't have any player details, but sure enough the selling price was $198. I don't think it was actually for sale yet, but regardless all rumors of a HD DVD player under $200 are true. I'm wondering how long it will be before Blu-Ray can bring their price down and compete in that aspect with HD DVD. I perfer that format (bigger disk size will be nice when computer burners catch up) and there are more movies on Blu Ray. I'm hearing now that it'll be at least another two years before this format war is over, so at least for now I think I'm going to stand back and watch.
  25. I tend to think the SFMM one is going to be safe for a while... Even when they built the ride I thought that it would be temporary to some degree. I had always somewhat assumed that the entire area back there would be eventually be revamped and a new themed area with a coaster would be put back there. I figured at the time Psyclone would come out as well as Deja Vu. Looks like I missed on the order a bit, but I still believe that the back corner of the park is eventually going to be a spot for something major.
