Sierra Nevada Pale Ale--also rather fond of Anchor Steam. Chuck "Why is drinking Budweiser like making love in a canoe?" Campbell

LOL! where'd you get the coconuts? oh let me guess...you found them...in a temperate zone. Er, they were dropped there by an African swallow, who gripped them by the husk? :? Actually, the fellow who runs the castle gift shop (he's also on one of the "special feature" documentaries on the Holy Grail DVD) provides them just for pictures. He said that people often take videos of their friends trotting off into the castle, banging the coconuts together. He posts pictures of folks with the 'nuts (so to speak) on his Web site, as well (the URL escapes me).

How about flammable and inflammable? They both mean the same thing, despite the prefix im-: don't smoke next to this tank, unless your favorite song is "Fly Me to the Moon." In other words, both mean "boom"!

Yep--live long enough, and you'll have ample opportunity to do and say lots of stupid things. It's like anaimator extraordinaire Chuck Jones used to say: We all aspire to be Bugs Bunny, but Daffy Duck is who we are.

Back in my high-school days, I suffered from that plague that dare not speak its name. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we can all say it--many of us are adults here, and those who are not need to know. I am referring to, of course, jock itch. There are over-the-counter remedies for this little . . . problem. And when I was stricken, I reached for what I thought was one such remedy in our family's medicine cabinet--Cruex. Unfortunately, I was one spray can off, and mistakenly grabbed a can of Desenex, which is a treatment for athelete's foot. I sprayed away at my nether regions (or "naughty bits," as the British might say). It was like applying napalm. It did, indeed, destroy the foul fungus. I could swear that I heard agonized little screams; they were coming from me. On the upside, the jock itch was gone. On the downside, so was at least one delicate epidermal layer in a most unfortunate place. I have since recovered physically, if not emotionally. So remember, gents: The next time you have jock itch, don't blame Desenex.

Remember, folks: A Tuesday following a three-day weekend is merely a Monday deferred.

Check out some of the pirate skeletons at BGW's "Piratical Purgatory" (in Banbury Cross). Some of them look more like maiden aunties. Aye, the mate on the left--he be a pyrate! Argh! Watch yer back when this lubber be swabbin' the deck, sez I!

Perhaps there's a simulator themed to look like a Chevy van with a Frank Frazetta "barbarian woman" painting on its side. How about the "No Knockin' if It's a'Rockin' Roller Coaster"?

Whew! I drove from Williamsburg down to Newport News today and could hardly see past the hood of my car. Hope everyone is staying as dry as possible in Pennsylvania. Chuck "I'll have to check out those PA parks one of these days" Campbell

I posted a picture in the "uber secret" UK trip forum, so I may as well put some out in public. The first picture is an onride photo taken on PKD's Hurler--it pretty well sums up the Hurler experience. I'm in a better mood at Doone Castle (aka, "Castle Anthrax") in Scotland in the second pic. "You got two 'alves 'o' coconuts and you're bangin' 'em together!" Why they no longer sell onride photos on the Hurler.

Great Wolf Lodge Development Discussion Thread
cfc replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The one in Williamsburg seems to do pretty well, but I wonder if this will last once the novelty wears off. The only competing water park is Busch's Water Country USA, but it's a pretty good one. Winter will tell the tale, I think--tourism is pretty slow around here from January to March. -
Now that's what I call an E-ticket attraction. Pity they didn't do it on the Zipper or the Battering Ram, though.

Which Coaster Gives The Best AIRTIME???
cfc replied to Crazy4Coasters!'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Back when PGA was still Marriot's Great America, my buddy Jim and I took a ride on the Turn of the Century (which later grew two loops and became the Demon) in the front car. We stretched and relaxed on our way up the lift hill--rather comfortable in front, we thought. Then we plunged down the first hill and shot over the hump--our legs flew in the air and banged against the top of the car. I sure the shocked expression on my face matched Jim's. Absolutely hilarious! We rode it again later in one of the middle cars. Some gent in the front car actually lost his toupee! It was flopping around like a big, hairy bat. -
The Edinburgh Dungeon features a boat ride with vampires--as I recall, it's basically darkness, spooky sound effects (such as evil whispering), and some basic dark-ride monster-on-a-spring-or-wire effects. Pretty cheesy (not that this is necessarily bad--I thought the place was a hoot). And I think the "boat" actually rolled on wheels in a few inches of water.

Sounds like the drunken guests may have been the scariest part.

So how many people out there are ACEer's?
cfc replied to PhishyBrewer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I remember talking to only one ACE member (they were at BGW for some sort of event), and he was this older, rather lean fellow--didn't seem to be a regular customer of "The Frying Dutchman," if you know what I mean. -
What a drag to lose another parachute-drop ride. I used to love the Parachute Sky Jump at Knott's. Chuck "Knott's should've kept the Wacky Soap Box Racers, too" Campbell

What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?

Apollo's Chariot about an hour ago--in eerie darkness. The Big Bad Wolf is a great night ride, too. -
Any Advice About PKD's Fearfest?
cfc replied to cfc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hmm--Shannon, it appears that you're the only other Fearless Fearfester on this board. Perhaps the others are too . . . fearful? Looks like I'll have to scout this for myself next week before my friends arrive. -
Attention experienced Fearfesters out there--Some friends and I are going to be doing Halloween in the Old Dominion during the October 21-23 weekend, and I'm looking for some opinions and advice about Kings Dominion's Fearfest. I live in Williamsburg, so I know BGW's Howl-o-Scream like the back of my claw, er, hand, but this will be my first foray into Fearfest (or a "First Fearless Fearfest Foray"). So, any words of wisdom? Advice? Semi-dirty jokes? Chuck "It was on a night such as this that I first saw the creature" Campbell

Busch Gardens Williamsburg will allow rerides on coasters if it's close to closing time and there's no one waiting for your seat when the train pulls into the station. You can ride the skyway all the way around, too, if it's a slow day.
-
Yep--on the Grizzly River Run at DCA. One of our party was disabled, and GRR has this nifty feature that allows the CMs to pull a raft off to the side to a special handicapped loading zone. Well, as we floated back into the station, the CM was a bit slow at the switch, and shot right on out of the station again, with all the CMs waving and shouting "We will find you!" We didn't mind--we all liked GRR.

Theme Park Review's "PhotoChop Contest!"

You know, sometimes I wish I had Photoshop--I vote for the Jaws/Jurassic Park combo. -
Lapbars sure helped Flight of Fear at Kings Dominion: "Now with 25% fewer concussions and aneurysms!"
